Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. If you love the hobby, I don't see why gender should matter. (In any hobby/activity for that matter) Should it be fashion, photography, art, music, BJDs, or so on~
In all honesty, I think it's great that guys are in the hobby, and would not think it strange or weird at all. It is nice to have a diversity of people interested in the same thing.^__^

    2. I think it's lovely when guys own dolls, I think it takes great creative drive to like BJDS which is always a nice trait in any person. My best friend Jack is your typical Jack the lad - he goes hunting, does target practice a lot, likes fast cars and women, but when I showed him Cesavier he developed an interest in the hobby and is thinking about buying a doll of his own now to model prototype historical re-enactment costumes he designs.

    3. The Dollfie dream forums initially creeped me out a little bit with how some male collectors acted about/towards their dolls... Perverted things and creepy fetishes abound, to say the least. But when I kind of started looking interest in DDs, and came over to DoA, I was relieved by the fact that, for the most part, the male collectors are really good, wholesome people. For you guy out there,, I'm not judging anyone who has dressed their dolls provocatively or whatever, but some guys on the DD forums are.... Creepy. I don't go on there any more, of my point needed any further illustration.

    4. Personally, I'm quite an egotist and quite like being a "rare breed" on doll forums! I don't think that, as a guy, I add anything special or new, because, when we get down to it, people are just people and my gender doesn't actually add anything different or new to my approach to the hobby - I like to do face-ups and go funny over shoes in just the same way as everyone else - but I do quite like being a special blokey snowflake! ;)

I am mostly joking. Really, I think it's amazing being part of a predominantly female hobby, when if I go to, say, a gaming party with my mates, it's mostly boys. I actually prefer the atmosphere at doll meets, to be honest!

    5. I think its nice for anyone to be in this hobby >< and guys interested in the hobby i think is sweet hehe

    6. I'm totally cool with guys having BJDs. XD

    7. That's cool to hear. I visit forums where most of the members are male and after a while it wears me down... I like the atmosphere of this forum and other forums with lots of female members.

Anyway, I have no problem with guys in this hobby or any other predominantly female hobby. I think it's great! I like when guys aren't afraid of liking something feminine or who share the same interests as me.

    8. While it seems there's a narrower margin of male BJD owners versus female owners, I think gender is irrelevent. We all like these dolls for some reason or another. The male BJD owners I've met are as oriented in the hobby as female owners, and they're resigned and casual. While I do think gender is a moot point, it's really gratifying to see gender diversity among doll-owners.

    9. I love when guys collect these dolls! Just more people to connect to and share your passion with!

    10. Actually, I have a guy friend who really likes BJDs. I bought him his first one as a surprise gift (yup, before I got mine. Am I not amazing?)

I only think more of him for it. It takes a lot for a lot of people, especially guys, to admit that they have a hobby that can be portrayed as so girlish.

    11. I would think it to be normal like any other person collecting dolls. I don't see why to make it a negative thing for a male to own dolls. As long as hobby it shouldn't matter.

    12. I see it as just as normal as when females collect BJDs. :) But then again, it's probably because I don't see it as "men who play with dolls", but more like men who are creative and love taking pictures, creating characters and possibly sew/paint. I don't buy and customize them for playing, but because it's a great way to combine all my hobbies, and it's cool to get your characters in "3D figures".
I think it has a lot to do with how you use your BJD yourself, and what kind of culture you come from. I come from Denmark, which is a pretty open country and I grew up with a very openminded mum, so I guess it takes a little more to shock me. :)
Also, it's great to have some men in this community, as they sometimes have very different ways to see things, and you suddenly get a very different opinion and/or perspective. :)

    13. Eh, men are women are pretty much the same thing. We're made of all the same stuff, just assembled in a slightly different shape. The more the merrier, I say! Society sure does place a lot of funny pressures on people.

    14. It was definitely cool when I met my boyfriend and he was already familiar/interested in BJDs a bit :) It's fun to enjoy the hobby together now. So I'd say it's pretty cool :3

    15. Because I live in a Western society, guys with dolls is something that comes with a bit of a shock and makes you wonder about them at first. There's an older man at the local anime club my friend and I go to that's very interested in our dolls whenever we bring them. I found it a tad bit odd at first just because he's so much older than us but now it's really not an issue.

But other than that first initial shock I personally don't really have a problem with it. In the end, gender doesn't really matter when you're a doll lover. C:

    16. As someone that has dealt with gender issues I'm not shocked or offended by anything that's out of the "norm". I'm always excited to see guys in the hobby because I don't feel so out of place or awkward about being in the hobby myself, as I seem to lean more towards a male perspective. Most of the people I know are shocked when I tell them I do something as girlie as collect dolls.

    17. I feel like its great to have guys take an interest in Dolls! Theres no shame in that! I feel like alot of the time people stereotype guys saying "oh they must be gay" I kid you not tonight my man decided he wanted an iplehouse jessica and an Iplehouse Lu......AMAZED!!!!

    18. It was really surprising to me when I learned most of the people in the hobby were girls... I just never tought there would be more of anything... And I still don't understan why there are so little guys in this compared to ladies.
I don't think it is weird for guys to be into this, no matter the age, same goes for girls.
I always tought this was something that could be enjoyed by pretty much everybody.

    19. actually i think its cute that guy into this hobby ~
it tell people that 'dolls' isnt just for 'little girls' only but even male can have them ~
though i'm not surprise to see that still 70% out of 100% most of BJD owner is girls

    20. It's great that there are guys in this hobby (seeing as a whole lotta people are females)
It shows that this hobby is not only for the girls but guys too~
I think its more of a social stereotype thing that most people assume guys can't have dolls (Idk why though.)
Anyway it doesn't matter what gender you are as long as you love the hobby.
