Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. Because you can do so much with these dolls, I don't really think there is a particular gender that should be associated with bjds. I myself like gaming as much as guys and I don't see why guys can't like this hobbie, these dolls are so beautiful after all!

    2. I think it's awesome that guys and girls are into this hobby. :D Many of the guys I know are very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to BJD, so it's never really occurred to me that they "didn't belong" or "seemed weird".
My fiancee even wants a doll. He wants me to make him a Chobits' Chii doll out of a Dollfie Dream Sister. :) So, I hope to one day oblige.

    3. I would actually be so amazingly happy if I could have a partner who has BJDs too. -dreamy sigh-

    4. To me, it's the same as if girls collected "boy toys" like Transformers figurines and such. BJD are very customizable, that guys can find a way to perfect their "vision" like girls do! :V

I think the only famous male BJD collector is Danny Cho. lol

    5. Am I allowed to give my opinion here even though I'm a guy myself? :)

Because it struck me that it's funny, when I started thinking that maybe I wanted a BJD, I didn't even for a second consider that "Hey, I'm a guy, that's gonna seem weird". Maybe I was just assuming that it's a bit weird for any adult to play with dolls, so the fact that I was also male wouldn't raise any more eyebrows. Possibly I'm just too used to weirdness. But as it is now, I always get a bit happy when I see another male with dolls, just to feel that I'm not alone ;) Not that I see any reason to mind having a lot of women around, it's just nice with some variation :)

    6. In all honestly, I'd be weirded out. At first I'd be like, "Ohhhhh..... okaaaaay?" but If I actually got to know the person and knew their background a little bit more and why exactly they took an interest, I'd be a loooot more accepting. I'm very very old fashioned so forgive my skeptical nature. :> (When people say they have a fat butt, I tell them they have good child bearing hips XD)

It's weird, I feel fine with them having anime figures and stuff, but BJDs a little less... :/ Actually, now that I think about it, I still haven't been able to wrap around my mind the fact that adults would have them either minus sweet old ladies.

I'm sure my mind just has a lot more growing to do.

    7. I wish I knew more guys with BJDS...I would love to have a boyfriend who was into bjds as much as I am. It's not really fair to the boys in this hobby. Where I come from, everyone is very biased against anything that isn't considered "normal" by their standards. Even being a girl with BJDs, I get discriminated where i'm from. I think guys who own bjds are super awesome and very comfortable with themselves.

Guys who own BJDs seem to have a lot of creativity, which is great for a person to have. Life is dull with no creativity.

All in all, i think guys with BJDs are some of the best guys out there.....i just wish they were as easy to find as acrylic eyes....

    8. I'm an avid supporter of the "no judgment" approach when it comes to hobbies that seem gender-specific. Some guys who own BJDs are actually very knowledgeable and are more caring towards their dolls than some female owners!

I think it's great that guys also get into this hobby. It's a comforting thought that someone of the opposite sex can actually understand how we girls feel about the hobby. :aheartbea

    9. ...To be honest, I'd LOVE it if the owner of my BJD's significant other was a guy. Role playing will be much more fun then, I think. /has ulterior motives

      Mehehe. <3

    10. My favorite doll owner, on YouTube, is a guy and I love his doll's. He actually helped me decide on my first doll with one of the reviews he posted! :)

    11. I bet you guys get into the hobby BECAUSE there are so many women around! Haha. (Of course, that was intended as a joke. ;))

    12. Haha, well, can't say it's not an added bonus ;)

    13. I think that it's cool how both girls and guys are BJD owners. That definitely doesn't seem to be weird for me. My friend's boyfriend has 3 DDs of his own and I find it super awesome!

    14. I think this is an awesome hobby for both men and women. BJD are so versatile, this hobby can have something for everyone. Personally, I'd love to meet a nice guy who was into BJD.

    15. I just have a hard time seeing this hobby as just a woman's hobby. But to me, gender is only what one makes of it, and to me it is of no importance except for reproduction. No hobby to me is for one gender or the other specifically, and if a grown man wants to collect dolls, that's perfectly fine. And if we meet, we can bond over our mutual love of resin.

    16. I totally agree.
I think the ideation that "dolls are for girls and cars are for boys" died with Cleavers (and should have been dead long before that), but moronic social norms aside, I think it's wonderful that this hobby is so diverse; women, men, young and older....everyone is here.

    17. I think it's rad! Why shouldn't they enjoy the dolls? I can think of no reason at all!

    18. I don't have a problem with it, I hope that my future boyfriend/husband has the same interest in dolls as me! It would be awesome!! Wish there were more where I live!! :=]

    19. lol i do find it a bit strange but its nice to see that a guy is interested in bjds i mean i cant blame them =) even my bf thinks theyre cool but he still wont collect them but its a start

    20. I think it should be just as acceptable for men to collect bjds as it is for women. I know I tend to have a knee jerk reaction to think it's strange but then I remind myself that I feel this way because of what I was raised to find socially acceptable. Boys didn't play with dolls and if they wanted to they had to have action figures instead. But, really, is there that big of a difference? I had my Barbie and Ken dolls growing up and my brother had all of his Power Rangers (several of which, I remind you, are female). I feel like it's the association with men's interests that make them more socially acceptable for men to have. My husband is a bit wary of my bjd but as soon as I started talking about modding one to look like a game character he liked he didn't seem to have so much of an issue anymore. I think it's less the dolls themselves that cause the issue and more the fact that they get associated with things like crafts and sewing which tend to lean towards the feminine side of hobbies. Just my two cents~
