It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I'm cool with it, as long as they don't act all special snowflake-ish about it. i.e "Look at me! I'm a manly-man in a girly hobby, aren't I so secure in my masculinity? I'm special because I'm a man who likes girl things." There's guys who do that in other hobbies and it's really annoying and kind of attention seeking. No one cares if you're dude in a hobby that dominated by women, it doesn't make you special, just shut up and enjoy the pretty dolls.

If they're chill and normal about it I don't mind.

    2. I think guys who own/play with/like BJDs are awesome!! :)
and I would love to meet some in person

EDIT: actually I just remembered that I did meet one at the first doll meet I went to
he was super nice and his girl was really pretty! ^^

    3. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'd just be excited to see some one have the same hobby as me. If anything, I'd be proud and amazed that a guy was openly expressing his love for these dolls.
This part is a little off topic:
My fiance had a barbie when he was growing up. He had action figures and video games, but he also had this barbie, and he used to take care of it. He made sure it didn't get dirty, and if it did he would clean it. He would brush it's hair and dress it up. To me I think it's just adorable, there's nothing wrong with it.

This just reminded me of his barbie thing, so I thought I'd share it :)

I also just remembered that the first BJD I ever saw in RL was at an anime convention and a guy was holding one. He has his wife with him, but she didn't have one, and the way he was holding it suggested it was his and not hers. He was treating it lovingly, like it was important to him. It was very cute :)

    4. I find all the positive comments about this really awesome ^^ I myself am a guy in the bjd hobby and i think its awesome ^^

    5. I think it is great too, hobbies should be for anyone to enjoy. Sadly, even in modern society, most people give stereotypes a lot of importance. Don't let it bug you, boys ^^ keep it up

    6. I am not trying to be mean here. I apologize in advance if someone gets offended.
This is a website for BJD owners. If you ask a woman with a BJD hobby on how they think of man of BJD, of course they'll have a positive opinion. I think it's pretty obvious.
But if you ask a woman who doesn't own a BJD, I don't they'll hold a positive opinion like them.

    7. ^^ i do agree with that, opinions from non collectors is going to be vastly different,

but as a guy with dolls, i like this thread :)

    8. I have never had any negative response from a non doll collector. Never! And I have been in this hobby since 2007. For me it has been the opposite.

    9. Honestly, I find that a lot of guys in this hobby are better with dolls than I am! My older brother and I have always both had interest in dolls, and I actually find it strange that people think men aren't "allowed" to have dolls or something. Especially with BJD's! It's not like some guy is toting around a naked Barbie all over the place! These dolls are beautiful, personal, and it shouldn't be restricted to who can have them and who cannot simply because of gender. My brother is always anxious about taking his BJD out in public because of how other people react to a guy with a doll. Its frustrating because he puts a lot of work into his doll.

I actually wish there were more guys in the hobby.

    10. To my onw personal experiences, most male dolls owners are weirdos. However you can't deny that they produce higher quality photos above average←also my own experiences XD

    11. I don't think this even deserves a thread. Its normal. Its a hobby. Dolls were normally stereotyped of being girls toys since it required them to look after and play with them but BJD's are not like a Barbie, they require you to be creative and craft or whatever you want. I don't think a guy having BJD's is weird, or feminine or whatever.

    12. Why is it wrong to hear the opinion of others? Just because you think it's normal doesn't mean it's not discussionable nor other people have no right to voice what they think on the subject. Much of tramping all over other people's right, isn't that? :daisy

Where I live, there are still a lot of guys who get discriminated for having dolls. There are aunties and uncles who (upon seeing them carrying it around in their arms in a public area) ask them why they carry such things around, often hinting that it's not right. Sometimes even their own parents are against the idea. I think quite a few keep their dolls hidden in their room.

Personally for myself, I do not mind too much about guys having dolls. Ultimately it's their personality that will make or break it for me. Like thesunasolrises mentioned some of them are in desperate need to show that they're so special because they're different that it really just turn some people off.

A large number of male doll owners here are really effeminate or metrosexual. But there are also those who are straight as an arrow, typical guy with CoD and DoTA hobbies and boyfriend to fellow female doll owners. They usually own female dolls that are made up to be their vision of a beautiful girl xD Some of them are even dollfie dream owners xD Among them all I've seen the shy guy who takes a while to open up, the awkward guy who makes thing even more awkward and difficult by trying to prove that he isn't awkward, the completely-at-home-with-the-hobby guy who is as comfortable in public with his doll as he is with his PSP.

Type no. 1 is rather hard to come by, because they're afraid of even the girl owners to approach them sometimes.
Type no. 2 is sometimes the one who defiantly does things that even we girls don't often do (because we know our local public), in the name of proving his belief in his hobby.
Type no. 3 is the best, because they usually have a level head, they know where it is proper to have their dolls out, they don't try to make a point to shove into everyone's faces that "they like dolls and everyone has to deal with it" because hey, they don't shove DoTA or their consoles into other people's faces. I love male doll owners like them to bits xD

Anyway that's generally what I've seen so far x3

Edit : Ah a lot of them are also from non-BJD doll hobbies like fashion dolls, pullips and blythes xD

    13. I think they are completely awesome and that's it... and so are the female owners, it's a hobby that anyone can enjoy!

    14. Why is it wrong to hear the opinion of others? Just because you think it's normal doesn't mean it's not discussionable nor other people have no right to voice what they think on the subject. Much of tramping all over other people's right, isn't that? [IMG]

Yeah the part where I said I don't think it even needs a thread is a part of my opinion. I never said, yeah there is nothing wrong topic closed. I just personally believe there is no gender in hobby. Although I do agree with the personality part in your post. :aheartbea

    15. I think it's fine! I love how in this community there are so many different kinds of people and I think that is really awesome! ^_^

    16. :)I think it's cool if l guy wants to have a BJD, obitsu, dollfie dream etc l have no prombles with this at all.

    17. I love it when guys have dolls! I think guys and ladies alike should be able to enjoy what they want without feeling weird or bad. If it's okay for girls to love 'guy things', why shouldn't guys be able to love dolls? Do what you love. :)

    18. I think it's nice to see guys involved in the hobby :) BJDs might be seen as a "feminine hobby" but I really enjoy seeing guys get involved :) I think it's neat how they're willing to go "against gender roles" and play with dolls ;)

    19. I'm actually really happy when I see guys with nice [read: tasteful] ball-jointed dolls. I like it when guys and girls can share a hobby as creative and fun as this one. :)

    20. All of the guys I've met so far in this hobby? Have been pretty awesome dudes. Not gonna lie.

In all seriousness, though, it doesn't make much of a difference to me if I'm dealing with hobbyists of whatever gender. People are people. So long as they're nice, I'm cool with that. :3
