Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. Personally, as long as they are serious about it, its fine ^.^
some guys are just sorta silly about it (one of my friends kept looking down my boys pants because he thought it was funny that they are "correct")
and those are the guys i sorta stay away from. but if they are mature, and love what they do, then why not? :3
Everyone has the right to this kind of group :3

    2. It's nothing new in the Dollfie Dream world :P I like having more people to connect with, guy or girl.

    3. I think it's fantastic to see a guy in the hobby! I don't really understand the whole boy hobby/girl hobby, so I say do whatever you like!

    4. Who cares! If he likes it, he likes it :p

    5. I love that men are in this hobby. I actually have a male friend who is interested in getting a doll himself.. (possibly a lovely Doll Chateau). It's nice to see that the hobby brings happiness to pretty much everyone in all ages, genders, and so forth.

    6. As I think others have said, you're going to get a very positive response from nearly every girl on this forum in regards to guys being a part of this great hobby/world. That's got to be expected, who doesn't like members of the opposite sex who share their interests?!

Same thing but gender roles are swapped in the Radio Control hobby/world for example. (rc planes/helicopters/cars, etc) If there are females taking an interest, we're are all thrilled. Heck, we all wish we'd see a girl just once at the flying field! :p
Though girls in RC seem to be way more rare than guys in BJD.

Of course there are always a few exceptions for the few close-minded types. But as long as you're respectful of a person's hobby, nearly everyone is going to enjoy having you in it with them.

Now for those who aren't in the bjd hobby, there's a huge social stigma about guys with dolls in general. I only know a couple people in my general life who wouldn't atleast snicker or make comments behind a guy's back about it if they found out one of their guy friends was into bjd's.
And because of that, it makes it very difficult to enjoy this hobby as openly as guys would like.
      It's unfortunate.

I could go on for days, but I'll leave my input there for now :)

    7. I think it's adorable. And I certainly don't see why they can't join the hobby, because that's what it is: a hobby. Hobbies are not restricted by race, gender, or sexual preference, so I don't see why guys can't "play" with dolls. :)

    8. I think that anyone should be able to get a bjd if they want one. I live with 2 other girls and my boyfriend. We have 2 bjd's in the house and it is a lot of fun. My boy Cain was a gift and I was a little nervous when i first brought him home, I didn't know what my boyfriend would say but after a moments laugh over his . . . boy parts lol everything was cool. My boyfriend has no desire to get his own doll, but he is currently making some cool armor for him. I believe that gender does not matter, my younger brother is a brony and I think that is cool. I think that if you enjoy something you should do it.

    9. I Personally love it!
My husband and I both have BJDs, which has been wonderful for both of us because it's something we can both share in. He's not as "into" it as I am, but he does have quite a few dollies that he'd enjoy having.
I think it's nice being able to share pictures of dolls, event announcements for new dolls, and show him dolls that I think he'd enjoy without the typical "eh" that most men would give.
I know that majority of men that I had dated prior to my husband simply thought I had growing up issues, or had something mentally "wrong" because I was still playing with dolls, so it's a huge relief to me to see that there are men who do enjoy the hobby as much as I do.

    10. I think it's pretty cool! I don't really see a problem, but I'm a very open minded person. I wouldn't mind if a guy randomly danced around in a tutu and high heels. A hobby is a hobby no matter how quirky or ""normal"" it is. Yes, dolls are considered feminine, but aren't g.i. joes dolls too...just with a more manly name?

    11. The way that I see it - my boyfriend loves his figurarts. He likes their pose-ability and the armor that comes with it. He loves the details too. In some degree, its the same reason why I'm attracted to BJDs. Not so much the armor but the fact that I can customize them a lot better than he would with his figurarts

    12. It seems that some guys tend to get nervous with the females, like me in the past, in the party and even. Several my male friends onwing dolls share the same situation. Could that be why we look so odd?

    13. I think... does it really matter? If you love it why should it matter if you are a boy or a girl? =)

    14. Honestly, I think it's awesome for guys to own BJDs.
The only reason some people think it's weird is because we're taught from a young age that girls are supposed to like dolls and fluffy things and boys are supposed to like cars and dirt, so when people deviate from that stereotype they're seen as odd. I think that's stupid.
I would love to meet a guy that owns BJDs, I think it would be interesting.

    15. I know a lot of guys in Japan and other Asian countries are into dolls, and when I was at Anime Expo in 2011, I only saw international men carrying dolls around (I'm sure there were girls too, but I didn't see them...) I found it a bit strange at first, but I don't feel like it's a bad thing by any means. The more the merrier, right?

    16. i think its kind of cute except if there "weird" about it i met one dude that was pervy about it and that was just eww

    17. I think it's refreshing. I get nervous when something is overpowe, red by the female gender, actually. Kudos to all you guys who are in the hobby. Inspiration comes in so many forms »^_^«

Well there was this one time when I wasin a craft store w/ my mum and saw a little boy toting a Ken doll... It was dressed in military clothes. I never liked Ken (or Barbie, for that matter). They were so gender-repressed. Even when they came out with"career Barbie" out was a "big deal" that Barbie was /able/ to be a doctor instead of a nurse.
Luckily, BJDs don't have those archaic gender definitions =]

    18. I think it's totally not strange for guys to own them. BJDs are very beautiful dolls that attracts people in both genders and I think there is nothing wrong with that XD

    19. I'm a guy and collect BJD's and I don't feel ashamed at all. I hate stereotyping. It's like girls playing video games, guys can be quite judgmental with that. If it makes a person happy then I say go for it. You should never stop doing something because you're worried about what someone else might think.

    20. As someone who is very against gender roles assigned by society, I believe all genders are welcome to enjoy all things equally. There are men who like to get their nails done, there are men who like non-BJD dolls such as Monster High and Novi Stars, there are men who like My Little Pony and there are men who dress in lolita. So, why not? Why should dolls only be for women to enjoy? I think that with the flexibility of BJDs, they are a great hobby and creative outlet for everyone including men, women and those without an assigned gender.

As a young girl, I loved my uncle's Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. He played with me a lot because I liked them so much. ^_^ I also snagged his old Sega handheld all the time to play Sonic. As a child, I didn't understand why only boys could like certain things and only girls could like certain things. As an adult, I understand it even less. My mother hates that I don't dress more "girly" or wear make-up or grow my hair out. Just because I identify as a female does not mean I am going to act like society says I should act or like the things society says I should like.

Anime figures, both SFW and NSFW, are enjoyed by both genders almost equally. Heck, I like dirty anime and the figures that go along with them. How come only men can have a sex drive? And why are they looked down on just because they bought a doll that they find sexually attractive? When we hear stories about women saying a male doll is "hot" or "sexy", we all smile and think it's cute. When a man thinks a doll is sexy, all of a sudden we treat them like they're perverted and grotesque. That's a double-standard we as a society need to work on.

Basically, it's crap that if a man likes something that is targeted toward women they're "perverts" or "child molesters". If women like things targeted toward men, they're "tomboys". Men with dolls don't bother me. A doll is a creative medium and everyone should be encouraged to exercise their imagination.
