It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I think it's great personally. There's a guy on youtube who does some wonderful things with BJD clothing designs. Men are fashion designers and artists too,so BJDs are a great hobby for those talents.

    2. If everyone's so accepting of guys in the hobby how come when a guy started a thread about guys in the hobby it was ruled against the rules and closed? It never said that girls couldn't post in the thread, just like this one is titled "GIRLS view on guys who own bjds" but doesn't exclude guys. Not saying I have a problem with this thread at all. This is great. Just would be nice to see Mods practice what they preach.

    3. My husband is contemplating getting a bjd, so obviously I think it's great guys are in the hobby. He's practically in the hobby already thanks to me, since he has the airbrush and knows how to use it! ;)

    4. I think it's cool that guys would be or are interested into bjds. I don't mind sharing this hobby at all with them.

    5. Guys owning dolls isn't too uncommon, a lot of older men especially soldiers and ex soldiers collect scale military dolls and comic fans & movie fans often collect the hot toys type expensive movie figures some of which cost about as much as a bjd. Guys often have some great doll mods as most of them have a knowledge of hardware and power tools they often have some really unusual doll mods. I think it's a lot better that guys have a several hundred dollar bjd they can truly enjoy rather than those sexily posed huge breasted half naked anime figures that guys seem to be buying a lot these days.

    6. I don't really think much about gender in most matters, and as such I'm not really thinking much of it when it comes to dolls, either. If the owner treats the dolls with respect and playfulness, I don't mind if the owner so happens to be a guy. ;) I do get rather uncomfortable, though, about guys (well, I suppose there are girls doing it, too) who sexualize their dolls too much. Other than that, no particular view on guys who own dolls. ;)

    7. :) I find it cute that a guy would like dolls. owO
they're unique in their own way. :3

    8. It is cute! Not explicitly, but the fact that guys are enthusiastic for something despite their reservations. Hopefully not obsessed???

    9. This thread made my day. It's great we guys are happily welcomed to the bjd hobby. Thanks a lot!
But I do believe that non-bjd hobbyist's would be a bit confused after setting foot to my room where my girls are. Considering that I usually have a pretty manly aura. That is when I don't have my animalbeanie on ;D

    10. To me, men that are into the hobby. I don't feel any different than a female into the hobby/lifestyle.

    11. I think it starts early with the whole "playing with barbie is gay because she is a doll but GI Joe is not because he is an ACTION FIGURE!!!!"

Give a BJD a gun and is he a doll still?

    12. Of course. But a society can twist it's thinking into pretzels to avoid being logical if doing so protects an entangled meme. As in, the meme of "dolls are for little girls to practice being mommies so they are prepared for growing up into Good Girls who toe the line regarding gender roles within the family." Such memes that reinforce roles in society are what I call entangled - in isolation, they can be rejected but when there are a lot of them, their entwine and subtly reinforce each other's message. And we instinctively defend such memes because to pull one away is to risk a cascade of logic that could endanger the society. Social survival trait - 'conform', even if it requires pretzelized thinking. To admit that an action figure - which boys play with, or which men use for learning strategy and tactics - is also a doll and therefore in the same category as little girl's dolls is to shred the memes around dolls being for girls to practice being mommies. Meme-defense kicks in, pretzel thinking occurs and boom. We hurt our boys and men deeply and we suffocate our girls and women.

*deep breath* OK, stepping away from the philosophy, on a practical level, I don't care in the slightest about guys or girls or martians in the hobby. I have other hobbies, some male dominated, some female dominated, some fairly neutral in numbers. Aside from different gossip topics, women coo and men go wow. That's about it for any general differences between males and females in any hobby.

    13. I think it's awesome. I think I may have gotten my boyfriend to almost be interested in them, too! ;)

    14. my boyfriend is kind of into my dolls but hes a marine and doesn't want to be seen with girly things -_-
maybe he can get past that when i finish Artyoms uniform!

    15. As Noki said, I think it's great that we guys are welcomed in such an unprejudiced way. I think there's a lot of inbuilt shame in men when it comes to things that might be deemed feminine, hence the reason male moisturiser isn't called moisturiser, it's "Turbo hydro face protection" or something equally ridiculous. The only people that know I have a BJD are my family and they're fine with it, so much so that my brother complemented me on making a wig and my mum tells sales assistants I'm buying things for my doll, they seem oblivious to other people's opinions about men and dolls. Much like the people on here. I imagine this forum is a haven for the men in this hobby with family and friends that don't understand, and it's wonderful that they have this place.

    16. Just had to single that line out here. Bingo!
I have many close-minded friends. They're great people, but there would definitely be a huge controversial outpouring of comments and opinions from most of them if they learned of my involvement in this hobby. It sucks. I was brought up in a fairly close-minded household as well. Just how things are.
But being able to come here and enjoy the hobby with others means a lot. Lets me take pleasure from something I enjoy that much more. Thank you all! :)

    17. A friend and I made a doll replica of her brother as a tribute to him. He was in the service and going through some rough medical problems. I helped her find a doll that looked close to him and we tweeked him to REALLY look like him. Then we found clothes close to his military uniform and she re-created his metals (a whole chest of them!). When it was time to present the "doll" to him she was concerned. So I told her "tell him its a hero "ACTION FIGURE" and he was FINE with it. In fact, it was one of his prize possessions! He went out immediately and bought a case for it to stand right behind his desk.

Sorry for going on and on...just such a good memory of him :) So its all in the wording.

    18. It doesn't seem weird to me at all. That could be though because when I was growing up, my brother preferred dolls over other toys, so it's not all that strange to me, since I'm very used to it.

    19. For me if guys own dolls, I think they are awesome because everyone have their own hobbies and interest =D

    20. Well......

Has anyone seen that episode of sex in the city, When Carrie's gay friend meets a gay doll collector?

He introduces him to every doll by name "and this is Mary queen of Scotts"

Well that's how my friends see me, like some kind of strange quirk they never seem to tire of telling everyone at a large event!

Usually I tend to get "joke" gifts of some cheap dolly things like dress the paper dolly or some really cheap doll.

It is annoying but I really don't give too hoots!
