Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. People enjoy what people enjoy!
Who's to say a person's gender effects what they're allowed to enjoy or not~
      I personally have never met or talked to a guy in the hobby but I look forward to possibly speaking to more people in the future. ;v;

    2. I'm 26 and gay guy, I own 2 girls and 1 boy (sold another boy I used to own). They're all MSD and to me they are still teens and pre-teens so I would NEVER portray them in any sexual way.
My girls are a bit curvier than the usual MSD, but they still have only shown midriff once and worn very demure swimsuits when out by the pool for a photoshoot.

And to answer to Bron's comment in the page before: I do find issue with girls sexualizing their gay dolls. It is quite alarming as a gay guy when straight women depict gay relationships (sometimes portraying them quite inacurately and based on age old cliches like the dominant/submissive stereotypes) and even show pictures of them pretending to have intercourse. Picturing a fully grown woman positioning their dolls in bed for a photo and saying "how cute! Squee!!" ....in a way it's just as unnerving as the creepy old men taking upskirt shots of their girls in a "super kawaii" sailor outfit.

    3. He would be a pretty cool dude ;)

    4. Well I don't think gender should have much to do with a hobby unless it would be physically dangerous in someway. I think gender based hobbies probably grew out of traditional social structure rather than something that is innately gender based. After all there are beautifully sculpted action figures (little dolls in a sense) that were most likely intended for male collectors/children. But I'm a girl (actually a very grown lady) and also happen to collect Schleich historical military figures. So I don't think it matters if a guy collects BJDs, or only girl BJDs. These dolls are so incredibly cool and appealing and the customization possibilities are endless. I'm pretty sure if I were same person I am today but only male in gender, I would still collect them.

    5. I think its super neat! I would love to have a BF who was into dolls and things like that. I think it would be cool to collaborate with someone on dolls. I think men get looked down on because dolls are "girly" by cultural standards and anything girly is inherently bad due to the same cultural standards.

    6. I like that guys own bjds. Why not? Heck, If us girls can have dolls and take care of them, why can't guys? Society set it up so that girls should play with dolls and boys with nerf guns and trucks. I hate how if a guy plays with dolls he is shunned and girls who play with trucks are tomboys and cool. I love that there are guys out there who play with dollfies and treat them just as good as us girls do. I pat you on the back sirs! >:)

    7. I always feel bad when people think or feel they can't join a hobby because of what others might think. Personally, I've missed out on a lot of things because of that.

I believe my boyfriend would have a doll or at least be involved with mine if others didn't say that guys in the hobby were 'gay' or 'feminine,' neither of which are bad things. He always takes an interest in my dolls when it's just to the two of us - He talks about girls he'd want to make when we look at dolls, what outfits he'd dress her in, what eyes, what hair, he makes my dolls dance and pose, he treats them really nicely when putting on their shoes, plays with their hands, holds on to them.. and then when he's around guys and talking about my dolls or my sisters, he just says 'Creepy pieces of plastic I would never blow that much money on.' :/ And every time I tell him he can dress my dolls up if he wants or tell him to show me a girl he likes, he just says, 'I don't want to get one and have people think I'm gay.' It's really sad.. but someday I hope I can get a girl doll he can just secretly love if he wants ;)

    8. I think it's great to have guys in the hobby as well and why shouldn't they. Dolls aren't just for girls and BJD's arent your everyday toy dolls you play with, they are unique masterpieces and can be portraited as an artform.
I know two guys from my country who have bjd's and I'm sure there's more =) Even my fiancée thought he should have one too ;D

    9. Of course it's surprising seeing guys with BJD's but that's just because many of us were raised where girls need to like barbie dolls and boys need to like cars and robots. Back then, the diversity wasn't as accepting.

      I support any gender with BJD's. They're awesome, I don't blame them! :D

    10. I have respect for guys with BJD's! Why shouldn't they love dolls too? I think everyone, not only girls, should have the right to collect dolls. =)

    11. I find it funny when my boyfriend calls Fly by name! He wants BJDs too, though, and if he could afford one, he'd have one!

I find the only issue is when they're only dressed in skimpy outfits or lingerie, and sexy photostories are done of them.

    12. I say live and let live! I think people should enjoy something and not worry too much about other people c:

    13. No one should ever worry what other people think about them or what they do, in the grand scheme of things other peoples opinions (especial negative ones) simply don't matter. Gender should always be irrelevant in anything/everything. I enjoy plenty of "girl" and "boy" hobbies and interests :)

    14. Also big thanks to liyujishin to saying "I support any gender with BJD's." You have no idea what that one little word means to me.

    15. Whatever rocks your boat is fine with me, I have a girlfriend who collects model cars & motor bikes, a hubby who loves teddy bears & collects Rupert Bear books. Men cook, care for kids and design & sew dresses, so why shouldn't they enjoy the BJD hobby as much as we do...I don't consider it strange at all.

    16. I'll admit, I'm really hesitant about bringing my BJD with me to cons or even out in every day situations, because I am male. Granted, I have a very hard time passing for male, so when i do have my doll people don't think anything weird of it.

But; it feels really good seeing so much support. At my local cons, there's hardly any males who have BJD's, so I've always felt out of place for wanting to be in this hobby. I've only brought my doll to one con since I've gotten him, but it was only for a few hours. He did get some attention though, since I had him cosplaying as Pyramid Head from Silent Hill.

But, yeah. This is a really fun hobby, and I wish that more people of varying genders/gender identities would feel comfortable in joining!

    17. I personally don't have any guy friends that are interested in Ball-Jointed Dolls, but I wish I did! Every time I go to a meet up, the collectors are all girls. It's nice to see more guys active in the doll community :) Maybe then the stereotype of "dolls are for girls" could be broken.

    18. As another gay guy, I couldn't agree more.
I have seen many people try to say that a man is more likely to have ulterior motives when owning BJDs. But what strikes me as funny is you hardly (if ever) see pervy XXXXL busted DDs scantily clad and rolling around together in bed sheets posted in the Gallery, but you could trip over posts of the same kind of thing represented by two Iplehouse studs. What also slightly irks me is that earlier a female member linked to a custom extra large breast plate, and commented on how sexualized and perverted it was... Though I would never own one, and I do see how off-putting it could be, I see collectors talking all the time about 'optional, poseable man bits' without so much as batting an eyelash.

    19. I think that's so awesome and that dolls aren't gender-restrictive! I wish I knew more guys who own BJDs RL. :)

    20. i agree with this completely. A ex of mine collected those pervy anime figures but thought i was the weirdo for collecting bjds. i would like to see men with dolls instead. I see nothing wrong with it. the world is changing and i believe my generation of parents are more understanding to letting little boys play with "girl dolls" so that social stigma is slowly fading so i would encourage men to openly play with their dolls so little boys can see that there's nothing wrong with being interested in "girl toys"
