1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I don't have a problem with it either. But then, I'm a guy, who's waiting for his first official BJD to arrive. I've been looking into them for a long time, on and off. When my partner got his a few months ago, I knew I had to get one of my own.

    2. Honestly, it does throw me off. But so do females... Like another said, age can be a part of it. I can look at myself, as a 20 year old female, and understand how it can be unsettling that an adult would have dolls. At the same time, enjoying them myself, I can understand why anyone of any age or gender would have an interest.

I don't like to have a negative view on people though, just because of negative stereotypes. It's nice most others seem to be past this, and I'll just have to grow, too.

    3. I agree with Kiegea. When I was watching a few un-boxing videos, I noticed some males also doing un-boxing as-well. At first I was taken a little aback from it. But in the end, if that's what makes them happy, then good for them! (:

    4. I'd love to meet male collectors. I don't see any difference between a man collecting dolls and a woman collecting dolls. I'll also add, as a woman (with vague sexual orientation, lets say gay for arguments sake) I agree wholeheartedly with the above posts made by gay men regarding straight women posing their male dolls in gay sexual positions, the idea of them cooing over how cute they look is a bit... Well lets just say it's not all that different to a man posing two dolls in lesbian positions and taking photos. Each to their own, but neither concept appeals to me. I own 3 MSDs and I consider all 3 to be 'age' 11-13, not an age I would consider sexualising (or even putting into couples). That's all, hope no one minds my two cents, no offence meant to anyone! :)

    5. I don't have a problem with it. My take is, if a guy collects figures, or art, then I can totally see a guy collecting BJDs. It's no different really.

    6. At the last doll meet I went to there was a very nice young man. He helped tighten my Sabik's hip joints. We ended up posing our dolls together and taking pictures. Later when I was showing my family the pictures they went "he? There was a boy there? What was his name? What did he look like? He must have been gay." So I ended up defending the person I had met exactly once to them while they said dolls are weird even for a gay person. While also defending my long haired male doll. I don't think there is anything strange about men who collect dolls. That just means more people to talk to about the hobby.

    7. It's a hobby that shouldn't be reserved for one gender! My boyfriend owns a doll; I love it! We have something in common!

    8. I think it would be awesome to meet a guy into BJDs...not to mention attractive! My guy unfortunately thinks it's a bit weird (but he collects some goofy stuff too so he doesn't have any room to talk IMO!).

    9. I've met a few guys in the hobby. Sadly not many, but a few. It never struck me as wrong, strange or bad. They're just another hobbyist, some one I share something in common.

I applaud anyone who can defy societal expectations and enjoy what makes them happy. That goes for both women who are considered "too old to be playing with dolls," or guys who have to deal with "that's weird." As long as it makes them happy and hurts no one, I'm all for it.

    10. To me it's perfectly fine. It's an art form--it's a way to express yourself. My little brother even wants one because he thinks they're cool. The fact that they're customizable really has his attention.

    11. I fail to see a problem. I don't understand at all while their is hate, everyone is different with what they like and don't like. Besides abjd's I also have a collection of toy cars. From hot wheels to bigger model cars. I haven't gotten any hate for collecting them, so why should a guy for what he likes?

    12. It perfectly fine for guys to own bjds! I think it's just the society thinking bjds are barbies, so they automatically think its for girls only. Its whats a lot of peoples mindset are, sadly... I would love to be friends with a guy who collects bjds~ that would be soo awesome ><

    13. This topic was an interesting read! As a guy, I was curious and nervous on how I would be accepted/welcomed here as a beginning collector and someone new to the hobby. Nice to now most here don't care or think it is weird. Have too many other things in my life that make people think i'm weird (collect oddities/curiosities, done drag, and wear a prosthetic leg) haha, so I didn't want to add something else to the list lol!

    14. I think it's a-ok for guys to own BJDs, and I think it's kind of cool that they are willing to while we are in a time that you'd think most guys might be afraid to in the fear of it being seen as gay or something.

If there are really any negativity towards guys in the hobby i think it really might just be because the thought that they might fetishize the doll if it's like a busty one. Since there are men out there who do that for other kind of stuff I see where they are coming from but I don't think guys in this hobby would necessarily do that.

    15. well...I completely get it why they do. Doll. Anime eyes. Long legs. Huge boobs. Which guy wouldn't fall for that?

    16. Someone with the same feelings as me ;D

    17. Just to make sure. This is suppose to be a joke right?

    18. WHERE ARE THESE MEN, I MUST MEET THEM. Perhaps they can teach my boyfriend a thing or two!
In general I do wish I had more real life interaction with other BJD hobbyest, male or female.

    19. I think it's fantastic! One thing I love about this hobby is that people are generally very open to anyone who wants to join in. I love seeing guys in the hobby because when I first joined I didn't think there would be many guys at all and boy was it a pleasant surprise. Guys have a different view on things than girls do and it's nice to see that even with doll collecting.

    20. Real men buy BJD's.
