Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I think it's awesome! For me, guys who own dolls would know how to appreciate the smallest details. And hobbies don't have to be just for this specific gender. If this guy thinks BJDs are cool, then go. I'd be more curious as to why he was interested in this kind of hobby.

I actually have guy friends who own Dollfie Dreams and they let me touch their dolls. :aheartbea

    2. I think it'd be really cool to see what kind of dolls they would collect, why, what attracts them to the hobby. I'd like to know those things about everyone but from a male perspective you can sometimes get a fresh outlook. I say do what makes you happy. "Follow your bliss" is right.

    3. the first time I saw a guy with a BJD doll I thought it was a little weird but I got used to it and now I am trying to get my boyfriend into the hobby (is neeeeeever gonna happen XD)

    4. I just helped my husband get and build up his first BJD and in fact did the face up for him this last weekend. I think it is great and believe dolls are for everyone to enjoy.

    5. Meh, my husband use to play -off topic much beloved childhood doll- with me when we were kids. Why do you think I hunted him down in adult hood and married him? ;) Just do you! Screw what anyone else thinks, I can list a ton of worse things that many guys collect, it's honestly a nice change hearing a male coo over a work of art rather than bragging about his gun rack for example...

    6. I don't see why it should be weird to anyone, its like a bit more versatile (and bigger XD) action figure. Most of my guy friends still have old action figures (as a kid i had them too, but it appears that my older brother squirrelled mine away, being a girl collecting them instead of barbies, i was the weird one). Some still have old video games, just cause bjds are classified as dolls doesn't mean it has to be weird. My best friend (and adopted little brother) is the one i blame for my love of dolls lol, he's the one who invited me to this forum even!

So yea, guys with these dolls is sorta a normal idea for me, lol.

    7. I think that it's awesome to see guys with BJDs. I am all for breaking gender stereotypes. As long as you are having fun in the hobby why does it matter what gender you are. Plus, if a guy and I have some sort of hobby in common, I tend to find him more attractive.

    8. I hear that, but it never plays out that way... maybe I am too crazy? I donno, I mean I have to, to willingly carry dolls around in public places lol It seems a nicer fantasy then a reality

    9. When I used to go to meets on a regular basis, our local group of 11 people had 7 guys! Which was wonderful, it made me really happy to talk with them about BJDs, since online it seemed that talking to girls about them was more the norm. I'm sad that school really got into the way of most of our capacities to hold meets regularly, and now that we're in college/moved/have jobs...yep. I'd love to talk with more people about BJDs again, and would be glad if some guys were in on it!

    10. I'm ok with guys owning dolls but sometimes I tend to feel a bit "off" about it. Don't get me wrong, I've seen pics of dolls owned by guys and I'm just taken back. They do such an amazing job with face-ups, making clothes, taking care of them , etc. But there was one day that I bumped into a blog owned by a male BJD owner of a female doll and I didn't really like what i saw.:o

    11. I hate it when people say men with dolls are sick minded, or when they say boys don't play with dolls. They do! And nobody should give a crap about it! Giving crap to men who own dolls is very sexist, because it is like saying women don't collect model cars or gundams.

As I am planning to pass my dolls down to my children when I get too old or die, I would not mind if I pass a doll down to a son, or a grandson as long as they are responsible.

    12. I'm always surprised, in a good way, when I come across a guy who not only owns dolls/BJDs but is as active in the hobby as any female. I don't see this as being a female only hobby and I'm always happy to see a guy who loves taking their dolls places for shoots and who worries about things like wigs and clothes and faceups. To me it's a way to be creative and it always seems like a man's creativity is so much more stifled by society, so having them use it this way is... I guess the word I want to use is refreshing. I don't want these guys to hide or feel ashamed.

Of course like with anything there'd be a difference if the whole reason behind owning the BJD was a perverse one. I've known plenty of women who do it and I just don't approve of it. It's not what I feel this hobby should be about.

    13. my fiancé owns a doll, and he loves my dolls too, he sees them as beautiful and a form of artistic expression rather than as "dolls" so even though his friends all give him the "dude give me your man card" BS over it he blows it off. hes an artist so he looks at the world in different ways than most people which is why he doesn't see the dolls as "dolls" but as unique works of art each one an expression of the owner who gives them their appearance and personality!

    14. The more people who enjoy this hobby the merrier! Age, gender, sexual preference, nationality - none of that matters. It's all about the dolls to me!

    15. I would LOVE a bf that collected. That would be awesome!

    16. I so agree with you. I would love to find a guy that collects :D. It's certainly not weirder for a guy to collect BJD's than My Little Pony for example, and an awful lot of guys collect those ^-^. Sadly here in Norway I will most likely have to suffer with all the men bragging about their gun racks or cars, or football supporters instead.. Not that there is anything perticularly wrong with those interests, it would just be so much more fun to talk about dolls together. Oh, I forgot to say I certainly do not tell my son, or daughter for that matter what they can or cannot play with :). My son likes to play with a variety of things, like cars and lego but also dolls and ponies :). My daughter is too young to know what she is playing with. I really don't like it when people try to control what their kids should be allowed to play with or dress in.

    17. That bugs me so much too... My FIL told my daughter (she's almost 4) that her favorite color and toys were BOY things (Thomas the train and Orange), and that she should play with dolls and like purple, pink, or yellow. I almost knocked some sense into him, but we dont believe in violence... It's so frustrating when people put gender stereotypes on everything! Still have trouble understanding why MLP is cool and BJDs are "girl toys." If people actually paid attention to the MLP show, they'd realize that the whole point and purpose of it is to teach us that everyone is unique. It's a good thing, and we should embrace the differences in others instead of shaming each other.

    18. I watched a video on youtube yesterday make by a guy and his Iplehouse doll and ideas about posing her. I LOVED it. He was so honest and passionate about his doll! I wish more men were like that!

    19. I don't see a problem with guys collecting dolls.
I am a transguy myself. Before I transitioned, I wasn't a pervy old creep and after my transition I won't be a pervy old creep either. XD For me, I love collecting my dolls, customizing them and photographing them. And it would be too silly to sell my dolls only because collecting dolls isn't considered to be manly.

Also, when on meet-ups and conventions I just enjoy seeing fellow doll owners that love the hobby, no matter what their gender is. Just as long as they are friendly. Because that's more important to me than their gender.

    20. Good for you, VelvetBat! You've got the right attitude. It shouldn't make a difference, if you enjoy doll collecting. Society is so ready to categorize people, it's not right. I just met a male doll collector who is totally passionate about his dolls, and I found him to be very informative. I'm happy to know him and I will learn from him.
