1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. Anyone should be able to do what they like with their dolls as they are THEIR dolls. Some people may not like what someone else does but really it's not their business and i'm sure they would not like to be told what they should do with their own dolls. Gender of the owner is really irrelevant to me as everyone is an individual and should not be stereotyped.

    2. I think we are still too gender specific in the US as far as what constitutes women's and men's interests. This is changing, but slowly. I fear in some pockets of the country, it will never change, but be that as it may. Open minds make for open hearts. The person who first made me aware of BJD's was an older guy friend so I actually thought guys in the hobby was pretty normal!

    3. I don't mind really. Many doll artists are guys and their works are fantastic.

    4. My first and currently only buddy in the hobby is a guy. He's such a sweet person and offers good tips, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't of been able to join this community. I'm very supportive of guys being interested in this hobby and I don't think it's awkward at all.

    5. Wait a minute! Has BJD advertisements been targeting females specifically? Or are we really talking about guys with dolls (not just bjd) in general?

I would hope we don't adopt the perception that media feeds us. Especially if the media isn't smart. They could have made twice as much money if they made dolls and/or action figures accessible to both boys and girls. I don't know if any of you watch Young Justice, but it's appalling to see none of its action figures are geared for girls despite the amount of strong girl main characters in that show.

    6. As long as they're enjoying their dolls and being nice I don't see why it should matter what gender an owner is.

    7. I am entirely indifferent about the gender of doll owners.

    8. My boyfriend loves these dolls. He doesn't have one of his own but he is always busy creating new outfits for my doll and the doll of his best friend. you can say he kinda adopted them ahah, i think its cool

    9. I am a guy and I own a couple of dolls now. I got started in it because I am a creative person and it is a creative outlet for me. Its just fun to customize and create characters. I collect all sorts of toys, action figues, robots, and now just got into the asian bjd. Its strange but i feel like you bond more with the doll than any other toy. I do think sometimes it may be strange but it really is just about the social and gender roles that society places on us. I think asian bjd isnt the same as normal western style dolls, but they overlap.

I think there is an innate human element that appreciates and will always respond to things that look human or anthropomophized. Its just part of being human.

I'm glad most of the people on here are open and honest about how they feel. Its very cool.

    10. The more the merrier I say! If you seem interested in the hobby, I will gladly chat about it whether you are a boy or a girl. Judging a person(in any way, not just in this hobby) by his or her gender is just silly to me n_n

In fact I chatted with a guy today that I take classes with and he out of the blue asked how my dolls were(I had totally forgot that he had seen some of them so I certainly wasnt expecting that question but I was glad he asked). He seems genuinely interested in them so maybe I'll drag him into this beautiful money-devouring hobby. Or at least tempt him with pictures as he wanted me to put some pictures of them on FB :)

    11. I think they're cool and brave to tell people or even bring their doll. And even being a female doesn't help too much, LOT of people tell me that I'm too old to bring my doll. But a female owning a doll is more acceptable than male.

I may get shocked first if I see someone unexpectedly owning dolls but I will never thought it's disgusting or weird. Instead, I will likely wanted to know them more cause having a male friend too in this hobby is fun :)

    12. Personally, I think it's the same as asking, "should girls play sports?" or "is it weird for girls to play video games and do guy things?"

I'm a total tomboy! I love playing video games, building computers, and talking to guys about sexy celebrities and hot girls. My guy friends treat me like one of the boys.

Therefore, if we want to be treated as equals, shouldn't that go both ways? How can women demand equal rights and fair treatment, but then turn around and say, "boys can't do that!"

We're all just human, and we all want to be happy and enjoy our lives, so live and let live.

(Now, having said that, if I see a 40 year old man living alone with a bunch of dolls, every scary horror movie tells me to run like heck! I'll admit that's a bit scary.)

    13. Well figured the bjd had a higher female demographic but I also figured that males were at least close behind. Either way what matters is the dolls not the gender, in my opinion.

    14. I really like that it is a hobby that can be shared with anyone, makes it more normal and some are fantastic designers and artists, isn't that what bjd's are all about

    15. That genderthing is overrepresented too much in every part of our life ! Overused and often ABUSED!
Basically we are all the same. Humans!
Even the "manparts" and "womanparts" are pretty much identical if you take a closer look ~
Really! Do a little research on this!
The borders between female and male are pretty much liquid and so i don't know why i should make a difference about males owning dolls or females ...
What's about people who are physically both, something in between ?:)

We should see every individal person as human as a being with feelings, emotions and something referred as a "soul".
      Nothing more to say :D

    16. I agree with many of you - gender doesn't matter to me in this hobby, or anything really for that matter. Do what makes you happy :)

    17. I think it's fantastic. I know a few guys who own dolls, and they're cool. They're into for the customization and photography opportunities. :)

    18. Creepy. Only because I went to a bed and breakfast in Vermont skiing when I was younger and the owner was this like…late 40s or 50s dude with porcelain dolls all over the main room.
I asked if they belonged to his wife - his wife says, No HE is the collector.

He just creeped me out. LOL Also the crazy guy on American Horror Story that collects dolls.

    19. I think guys who dig dolls are super cool and especially awesome. Wish my husband liked them!

    20. I would really like to see more boys/men in the hobby ^.^ actually, I got my boyfriend interested and he's looking into one for himself, now! It's rather exciting to have something to share.
