1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. So you believe all men who collect dolls of any kind are creepy because once you met a guy who collected dolls... and for that reason you judged him as creepy (Are any of us here in any position to judge someone as creepy for collecting dolls. Really?)
And because of a character in a fictional television show.
I'm just trying to wrap my head around that way of thinking.

I think a person's gender shouldn't affect what hobbies are socially acceptable for them to have... That's extremely silly

    2. I really dislike when people pin things to a certain gender. Everyone is different and the less society tries to force gender roles and things on people the better everyone will be, imo. Enjoy your dollies, whatever gender you are! ^__^

    3. Guys with dolls are cool. nuff said.

    4. I totally agree with this.

    5. I think it's awesome too! Spread the BJD love~! The more the merrier!!

    6. The more the merrier! I'm just happy the men in this hobby are so open about how much they enjoy the hobby! My boyfriend collects anime figures of cute anime girls, which I don't think is much different. (I collect them too)
Do what you wanna do and don't care what people think of you, as long as you're doing what you love ^o^

    7. Guys who collect BJDs? Can I have one of those? Haha.

In all seriousness, most of the guys I know are put off by how effeminate male sculpts tend to be. I don't know any who collect personally, and the ones I know of on the internets tend to collect female sculpts. Either way, it's pretty cool to see them around.

    8. I think they are amazing and open minded because they are not thinking that dolls are only for girls. (I'm thinking that it is for everyone.)
They are very cool to me really.

    9. To me it doesn't matter at all what the owner is as long as they're nice etc.
As for creep factor, sure there are super creepy guys who collect dolls...but there are just as many super creepy girls who collect them...
I don't think you can stamp "creepy" on a doll owner just for the sole reason they're male.
I do wish my other half would care a tiny bit about them tho instead of just nodding and Hmm hhm-ing with a vacant stare when I talk about dolls *sigh*

    10. It doesn't matter to me, if you want to collect dolls, go right ahead, and I'll defend you if you get abuse for it, It's rare to see them though, but the guys I have seen, are really deep into it, and have some amazing ideas.

    11. I don't think it really applies across the board to ALL men, especially men outside of Japan. But...in my experience then men I have met who like BJDs have completely sexualized them. GIANT unrealistic boobs. Barely there clothing. Things like that. So....my opinion is a little skewed by that.

That being said the men on DOA are not here to just make their dolls a giant sex symbol. It isn't always easy though to tell who is and isn't a man just by their posts alone. However, I have seen some really cool things that guys have done to their dolls here.

However, meeting someone in person tends to have a larger impact on my opinion than some ambiguous gendered person on a forum, so I tend to think of the former image right of the top of my head.

    12. some of the best doll designers are guys (RingDoll, LoongSoul). The head designer for Mattel is a guy (Bill Greening)... so.. this question is kinda silly.

    13. Although I'm not that experienced, I still think that gender does not matter. Either they are a nice owner or not. And both of those can come in both genders, I am sure, although I have yet to meet an unpleasant owner.

    14. I think its awesome! I personally think gender doesn't matter when it comes to this hobby. I mean if my son was into this hobby i wouldn't care. Id rather have him spending $300 on a doll then drugs. LOL

If i had a son LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

    15. I grow up in the time when Boys wondering about Girls playing Video Games and says "Wow you are doing it, really?" XD So it's actually the same for me. ;) Nothing bad just surprised and why not, hobby is hobby and Gender do not matter :3

    16. I feel like anyone should be accepted in the doll community, even if he's being a pervert about it, but if you're a guy who buys his dolls and fondles them in public at meets, that's just... discomforting. I mean, I admit, I am a hormonal teenage girl who prefers older looking boy dolls. Why? Because they're hot. I can totally understand a guy wanting a doll because they think it's hot, but please just if you're going to get freaky with it by all means I have no say in what you should be doing, just not in public. I feel like I've heard a lot of stories about guys sexualizing and groping dolls in public and I don't want guys in the hobby to viewed as perverts by people because of them. Also, if they go around trying to make themselves seem special by going off about how they're a guy who's in the doll hobby so girls should like him or he should be praised for it, that's just stupid.

    17. My boyfriend likes mlp, but still won't admit to liking my doll, even though he stares at him a lot.
I wish he would just admit he is interested, and enjoy them with me already!

    18. I'm a guy, and I agree.

However, sometimes holding by the the breasts is a good way to stabilize the doll while adjusting something else. I'm always embarrassed when I do it at a doll meet, though :blush And I always apologize for it :sweat

But for people with larger breasted dolls, it might just be innocent. Also, if it's for stabilization, then it wouldn't just be guys doing it.

    19. I think it's perfectly fine for guys to like BJDs. I don't think is strictly for one gender but I think guys may be more embarrassed about coming out and expressing their like for them. I know a few guys who like BJDs and I think it's awesome! :D

    20. I think I'm pretty darn cool.
