It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I tend to be really surprised when I stumble upon a male BJD collector. Either way, I think it's really cute and I think those guys should be doing whatever they want without being judged for it. c:

    2. My brother is a doll collector. I love that he is one, since we can talk to each other about doll stuff to our hearts' content without fear of judgement or being deemed weird as we're in that boat together. xD

    3. No problem whatsoever with guys who own BJDs. People should be allowed to enjoy whatever they want to as long as it's not hurting anyone, regardless of age, gender, etc. No shunning!

    4. I bought my son his first BJD for Christmas. He's 11. He has probably told me 'thanks' 50 times. If it helps us have something to bond over, it's definitely a good thing. I just wonder if there's any other parents who share the hobby with their sons. I have come across plenty of posts mentioning daughters, but not sons......... I don't know if it's something he will have interest for a long time, but for now, I'll take as much bonding time as I can have!

    5. I'm a man & i like bjd. But i think some people think it's bad cause it's for girl. It's like when women like cars.
I'm happy to see some people understand each people could like what they like.

    6. Me too! Well since people will still have their own opinions, I will just stay cool with it. I do really worried about what people say in past, but as I get matured (a little) I just felt more comfortable and honest with myself. Besides they don't even pay for my dolls right? XD

    7. I can't deny that in the figure collecting hobby, there is a lot of fan service-related figures, yet I wouldn't judge someone for collecting that. Likewise, with guys collecting BJD. Of course in this hobby I have seen plenty of "raunchy" looking clothing for dolls. But, there are plenty of outfits for dolls that aren't "raunchy" and that goes for figure sculpts too! I think, personally, both hobbies are equal in terms of craftsmanship.

Anyways, I believe that whatever any person, regardless of gender, wants to be passionate about then they should have pride in what they love! I think that's a very attractive trait for anyone to have. So, I don't think differently or less of any guy who collects BJD. I don't think it's that strange. Who says this hobby is for girls only?

    8. I really like to see guys involved with the BJD hobby. No judgements from me :)
There should be no limits on joining a hobby just because of gender. And I'm glad to know that there are guys in this hobby too. :)

    9. Societal gender norms are silly and irrelevant. That is all.

    10. I find it incredibly sad that men and women are not yet allowed to do the exact same things without being despised by others.

    11. I think it's great. Kudos to them.

    12. Honestly, I wish there were more guys in the hobby. And I feel like there would be if societal norms and expectations didn't get in the way of passion for something. Of course, I could be wrong, but it seems to me that if "playing with dolls" was not immediately thought of as girly and/or immature by so many people, we'd see a lot more male interest in BJDs.

So yeah, I support it 100%. Gender is irrelevant when someone is truly passionate about what they do!

    13. It makes me happy to see other guys who collect BJDs. Makes me feel less lonely.

    14. I don't really understand why this question is being asked. I participate in a few hobbies that are more men centric and none of them are discussing how they feel about women taking part in those hobbies ( at least not in the hobby circles I frequent). It just seems strange to me that this would even be a topic of discussion. Hmm maybe I'm just an odd bird or something?

    15. There are more of us than you know turnipmelody :)

    16. I agree with StacheRabbit. Let people enjoy what they wish to.

    17. I totally think it's fine, if they enjoy them, then why shouldn't they be allowed to? I admire their courage to go to a hobby that many would deem girly.

    18. I think it's awesome, you have your guys who like the lady dolls and your guys who collect warriors (as I call them, they're like the action man of the BJD world) but yeah I know a few guys who like them (mostly caught the resin bug from their S.Os XD) but it's so nice that there ARE guys in the hobby, all the ideas we can bounce off one another and such XD.

    19. I'm a guy and I have interest in owning dolls from Doll Chateau and other doll with weird and out of this world sculpt~

    20. @mollym , thats really adorable, keep on doing that. I am from a latin country, so there is a lot of chauvinistic point of views on that, so I could never engage with my mom on certain things because its not fit for my gender, and that was terrible.

I also decided to get into the hobby to bound with someone, in my case, with my girlfriend. I always liked BJDs, I was the one who introduced it to her (she kind of knew it, but I think I was the one who got her excited and considering buying it) but I end up not buying at the time she bought hers ( 5 years ago) because I was scare of prejudice.
I think it really helped us to get closer, we sit together to windowshopping, we talk about our dolls, she helps me to choose things ( I still am very clueless on what and where to buy), she does their faceups and I make her dolls clothes, so it's our little world.

It might sound strange or with a hint of prejudice, but please don't get me wrong. I feel like people get a bit weirded out with me because I am not gay, and because my dolls aren't very sexual or they don't actually resemble anime characters ( such as dollfie dream). Both are MSDs, a girl and a boy.
I remember once I was talking to a couple of male students that I had a doll at my office and strangely they were OK with the fact I had a girl, but when I said I also had a buy, they were confused. I never understood this reaction though.
