1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I think it's pretty awesome. It may be strange to those not into the hobby but I believe it's really great. x3

    2. I think it's cool when a guy likes BJDs. I know too many guys who are doll-phobic.

    3. I don't have a problem with it, I think it is pretty cool. I know enough girls who have traditionally male-oriented hobbies so more power to guys who want to have BJD. :)

    4. Well, there's another thing about Dollfie Dreams that I have noticed from Volks, at least Volks Japan: they seem to view Dollfie Dream as the "red headed stepchild" of the line.

(And Yumiko and Sarge say "Hey! We resemble that remark! We're both red-headed stepchildren!")

It's strange, in some respects they look at the DD fans as being "unserious" and the fans of their resin progeny as being the more "serious" ones. Could it be the hand-crafted aspect of a resin doll vs. a vinyl doll which is sort of made on an assembly line? I mean, even DDs are faced-up by hand, and even though their parts are somewhat uniform each one comes out a little different. I've noticed that in particular with Yukino, being that I'm owned by a Yukino type. Each one has a certain something that is a little bit different and gives them each their own personality. It is even more pronounced with limited edition character DDs. For instance, Danny Choo's own Saber looks a wee bit different than other Sabers I've seen. And her face just "pops" when photographed...

      ...see what I mean?

I mean, last I checked Danny didn't have her faceup redone. This is how she came to him right out of the box. Boy, did he ever luck out...

Still...I know I'm ranting and I'll shut up. But it really seems they give the DD line short shrift. I love them, they are beautiful, and I know Volks over here in Torrance gives them lots and lots and lots of love. They can't keep 'em in stock over there. And they get the same kind of white-gloved reverent treatment...I saw this first-hand when I picked up Namiko, my MDD. Which reminds me...they haven't seen Sarge in person. I think they'll love her.

    5. I am glad to see that most people in this forum are cool about guys who are into BJDs. I'm only new here but I'm getting to like the users of this forum more and more. In a way, the restricted membership to this forum means that mostly people with a real interest in the hobby have access to it rather than any random 'abusers'. There must be loads of different reasons why a guy (and a girl) can be into BJDs. I am personally not interested in playing with dolls in the traditional sense like children do. I am very much into anime/manga and Japanese culture in general. Having a high end BJD in your house can simply be a great aesthetic statement. I don't own one of these amazing dolls yet but when I finally get one I hope he/she will become a great focus point within my house (although I'll do my best not to let it gather dust in a neglected corner of the house).

    6. I'm a boy so I don't know if I should have an opinion..... but...

Yeah, I'm gay. ^__^ I like dolls. None of my friends seem to have an issue with that in the slightest so it is slightly upsetting to me to learn that there are some girls out there who have a seemingly negative reaction. Out of all the tea parties and meetups I've been to, I've been the life of the party and EVERYONE seems extremely happy to see me. I couldn't imagine for one second walking into a place with other doll owners and being looked at as being "different" or "creepy."

I use my dolls as characters in my story. Not sexually, not as little playthings, not as fake boyfriends (as some do) but as muses for my stories with something to look at to form a personality.

I honestly find people that find ANY doll person creepy to be hypocritical. I think a hobby is a hobby and just as someone said earlier about video games: Girls that play games are NEVER viewed by guys as anything but AWESOME.... I just wish guys that had dolls were viewed the same way by girls.

      My 2 cents.

    7. Gender stereotypes seem silly to me (deep down, we're all just people! there's no need to have so many "rules" for living based solely on what's in one's pants), so it makes me happy to see someone defying them. If that someone is a man carrying his beloved doll around the mall, then so be it. ^^

    8. I think is a normal hobby just like anyone else~

    9. As someone who has several hobbies not stereotypically associated with women, I have to say it's pretty awesome if a guy is into BJDs. I think it's great when men and women can break free of the common stereotypes and just follow their interests freely. :)

    10. That would be so cute to find a guy that was into figurines/dolls. I think it's so darling in a weird way.

    11. Let's not forget that the majority of the most renowned dollmakers and puppeteers are men. By the same rationale, collecting dolls is a perfectly reasonable hobby for a discriminating gentleman with a penchant for small form.

    12. I think it's great and that there should be more of them. It's fantastic to see these men don't allow themselves to be tied down by the sterotypes placed on us by society.

    13. No offense dude doll-owners, but guys with dolls originally creeped me out. The only guy I had seen with a doll was exceedingly creepy and spoke for his doll in a way that I found unsettling. It really wasn't his fault, in-person roleplay (I suppose you could call it that) that wasn't on the day's agenda makes me uncomfortable.

After that experience it was one of our forum members that warmed me up to the idea. He had a Dolfie Dream so I assumed he was a perv, (your prerogative, but hey I clicked the link so what does that say about me? ;) ) but I really liked his photostory style. He had his girls dressed a bit sexy, but who among us can say they haven't shown off their dollies flawless bodies? I liked the intimate way he portrayed his girl's adventures. I got the feeling that he really had fun playing with her, more so than some of us. after that I was cool with it. :D

    14. To be honest, it never occured to me that guys wouldn't collect dolls.
My 24 year old son does.
In fact, he is getting a new Puki for Christmas, as that is what he asked for. And ED eyes for his Shiwoo.

    15. I'm glad a guy posted on here. I was kinda looking for what guys had to say when I clicked on this.
I've never met anyone in real life that collects bjds or dolls, male or female. So I suppose I'm pretty open to anyone collecting them.
As for objectification, males AND females do that. I think it's a lot better to objectify a ball-jointed doll than a life sized female doll. That's when it gets creepy.
      Anyway. Yep.

    16. I already posted here, but I just don't get how owning a dollfie dream as a man makes you "INSTANT PERVO". Really.
As if girls never drool over dolls like that. What do they call that? Double standard?
If you're going to presume a man is a pervert because he likes dolls with big boobs, realize how many girls get the hotts for their own dolls.

    17. I hate the idea of someone having to curb a love of something because he or she is afriad of what society may think of that person. A male who can overcome such fears and enjoy the BJD hobby is someone worth respecting, and I do, in fact, respect and admire the males who can admit that they enjoy collecting BJD's, because I know that U.S. society, at the very least, is such that a male collecting dolls would usually be seen as a negative. I wouldn't be surprised if they suffer from teasing, at the very least, simply because they like what they like and aren't afraid to engage in what they like, and I don't think that's fair. Seriously, what's wrong with a grown man who likes dolls? Absolutely nothing, in my opinion.

    18. I personally find it kind of cute/hott if a guy owns BJDs
I dont see why people find it creepy, some guys have the guts to actually be in the hobby which makes it even cooler!

    19. I think males with BJDs is wonderful! Of course it is no different than a female liking football, video games, and hunting! Who is to draw gender lines in likes and interests? Do we often forget that men back in history wore tights, wigs, and sometimes powdered foundation? If I see a guy with a BJD, I will salute him! (:

    20. I think its fine, this is an art form! the more the merrier!
