It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. I think that asking for money to put towards a doll is fine ~ I could never ask my family to outright buy me a doll, especially one with a larger price tag:)

    2. I'm not sure...

My brother has always recieved rather expensive gifts; his own computer, bikes, 3 different electric guitars, video game consoles, TRIPP pants, etc.

While the only expensive thing I ever recieved was a new PS2 to replace the old broken one mom had my brother give me when he recieved a brand new PS2 the same year it came out. :|

So, to me at least, I believe that asking for a doll should be alright. I'm a bit shy to ask though....
I'd most definitely love a bjd for my birthday or christmas after a year and a half wishing for one, but I'm afraid I'd get laughed at if I ask :(

    3. Well I dont think I'll ever get a gift doll, well not from my parents anyway, they would rather buy something "usefull" like a tablet. On the other hand if I could I would buy my sis her first doll, she wants it soo badly, but she had to pay like 4 dolls worth of money just to go to college >.<*

    4. Anjelchan contributed almost the entire amount to buy a Shiwoo for Amidoji. The rest came from a couple other friends and one made him some clothes as well. It was Ami's birthday present and she was so excited.

I'm currently saving money to buy a body for the doll head I bought for my cousin. She's only 15 and most places won't hire her yet but she is completely in love with my dolls and we're pretty close so I'm buying her first doll for her.

    5. Okay, I did do a search on this, but the last thread that had been made died back a year ago (9-26-06). Rather than practice massive thread necromancy I decided it would probably be okay to make a new post.

There are plenty of threads on receiving dolls as gifts, but very few on giving them! I have personally thought about buying a doll for my hubby as a Christmas present, seeing as he's wanted a doll even longer than I have. He's been very sweet, letting me get my own first even though he's talked about what sort of sculpt/character/style he would like quite often. I've shown him quite a few dolls and know pretty much which one he would like, so now it is just a matter of saving money to get it for him.

Now! If you knew a person who could not afford a doll of their own would you spend the money to give one to them as a gift? How would you go about it? Would you consult them every step of the way, making sure that everything is just how the person receiving the gift would want it? Or would you surprise them completely, getting something close to what they would like and pop up on their doorstep with a massive package?

    6. My best friend and I are both really into dolls. I've wanted one longer, but she bought one first, spurring me to buy one too. But lately she's been talking about buying an obitsu or some cheap head just so she can practice doing face ups. Lately I've been seriously considering getting her a Bobobie head, which are greatly priced, and surprising her with it. After all, I know she loves Apollo... I think it'd be a great Christmas surprise. I just don't know what she'd think of it. :sweat

    7. I always thought of buying my now ex-boyfriend a doll. I knew he LOVED FF7 so I was on the outlook for a Cloud outfit to buy first (without him knowing) and then later on getting a doll that would look the most like Cloud. I always had in mind of asking him if he liked the doll or not, pretending the doll was for myself. I then wanted to order and buy the doll, but NOT saying it was for him... and then surprise surprise!

    8. My sister is buying me a doll for my christmas/birthday present and I bought her first doll as an easter gift. So we go back and forth with that all the time.

    9. My little sis wants a mf shushu, if i had the money, and if she REALLY wanted one, i would get her one. I think a gift of a doll is very special, if i received one, i would be so grateful to that person. :)

    10. I only know friends online who want them that i got interested in them. If I had the money of course i would buy a friend a doll. But im still working on mine right now. My mom is being nice and helping a bit though ^^

    11. My mother-in-law is a doll collector (not what we collect - more traditional girlie dolls). I bought her dolls twice and she loved them both. If I had a big, disposable income I would absolutely splurge and get her a smaller BJD. I think she would go a little nutty with joy if she had one.

    12. I bought my daughter a Volks Reisner for her birthday I just hope he gets here in time for her party but I don't think he is :(

    13. I want to buy a friend a body, something about something for her bday (the way she explained it was weird and doesn't sound right). But if things won't turn out how I'm thinking it will, I'm planning on buying my little sister a doll for her Xmas present next year (she's not old enough, in my opinion to get one this year) :)

    14. My sister Waterangel and I bought a gift for our friend who is obsessed with Pokemon. We bought her a Souldoll Harang and turned him into Ash Ketchum (Diamond and Pearl outfit) She flipped because she never saw it coming even with all the hints we through at her including bringing our own dolls to her b-day dinner (she knows about dollfies but hadn't owned one until we bought her hers).

    15. awe uchiha! that was so sweet of u to do that ^^

    16. I'd totally buy a doll for my best friend if I could, because she really wants one. Just doen't think her parents will go for it.

    17. My friend Lianne in Scotland squeed incessantly over Lati Blue Rucas in the summer holiday outfit. So I bought him for her.

      She hears about mine all the time and demands pictures of Dennis and the crew so now I can demand pictures back ;

Se's already got a name, history and personality all ready for him. I hope he cooperates ;)

    18. I'd really like to get one for someone, but i dont really know anyone who likes them so much, i have a friend that likes dolls, but she's indecicive and i think she wouldnt be greatful that id bought her one because she wants to base all the dolls she gets off her characters.
I was going to receve a doll as a birthday girft from my boyfriend... but that didnt work out, I'm not sure why, i think he changed his mind. What's worse is that he told me about it after he canceled the order. He hinted after that he would get me one for my birthday the following year and at the time i had anough money for two in my bank account so i spent all the money, with nothing to show for it, i spent most of it on him actually and then just before my birthday that following year he decided to move out of his aunts house and he couldnt afford to get me one.
In the end some unexpected work came up for me this year at my mums office, i was payed 200 pounds a week and easily saved up for a doll, now my Camine, Jack is on his way home and soon into my safe arms.

    19. Donna that's awesome!

I'm planning on giving my friend a doll, or at least helping her get one. I have to be sneaky about finding out which ones she likes... I'm pretty sure she likes Choa.

But there is one doll that she told me she'd really like to have.... JUN TACHIBANA!! Out of all the dolls she liked... :sweat Well, at least it wasn't Bermann! :doh

    20. I would love to buy my little sister (she's 20) a DOT Duncan cause that is the only doll she has shown any interest in. Still trying to think of how I can pull it off by next christmas or maybe her 22nd b-day (in 2009).
