Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. Well I bought my daughter a Dreaming El when she was 16. She was looking at my Shiwoo.. and haunting the Luts pages. Now I have her addicted to the same hobby. Sharing is fun. Besides she does the best puppy eyes...

    2. :sweat My friend bought one of my dolls' bodies, so I'm saving up for a doll for him as a thank you. Hopefully I can manage by Christmas. :XD:
And, I gave a head I ended up not wanting to a friend of mine. :XD: But I know she's going to love him (it's actually a girl head) TO DEATH once she gets him ... so I'm super excited.

    3. I bought a doll head for my friend a little while ago. She's my only friend who's into BJD's and I really wanted to share the experience with her. Her parents won't let her have a job so it was unlikely she would have ever been able to afford the doll until they allowed her to get a job/move out. I can't afford to buy her a whole doll, but I figured a head would still be special.

    4. i gave my friend a shiwoo she had wished for for a long time for her birthday last mai ^^

    5. wow i'm so jealous of all the people who are getting dolls as presents XD if I had the money I'll buy a good friend a LUTS El, but then I'm poor - -

    6. one day I will buy one for my best friend ^^

    7. A friend and I decide to get another friend of our a doll, because she really seemed to love and be facinated by them, but she could never really afford one for herself, or at least not for a VERY long while. We decided to get her a Bobobie Erin, and we gave it to her at a surprise b-day party a bunch of us threw for her.

However, I don't think I'll be doing that again, as she did seem to like her doll, but I suppose she wasn't really into BJD as much as to having one herself. She doesn't really seem to care for her doll that much, and isn't interested in doing BJD related activities at all. I almost wish I could have the dolly back, just so I could take care of her and give her the love she deserves. :(

I was telling this to someone before, and they mentioned something that I'll be sure to remember from now on. They said something to the affect of, "Although someone may be really interested in the dolls and seem to have great affection towards them, you should be carefull that it is really a love they have for dolls, and not just curiosity of something they view as a fad-like item." I couldn't agree more.

    8. I want to get my friend Chelsea a Bobobie Erin, and my friend Noel a Bobobie Eric. They both love my Aleksei so much, that I would love to spread the love with them ^^

    9. I bought my sister a leeke sweet for her birthday last year. She lives in california and I live in utah/japan (i move back and forth every few months for school) so having the girls helps us feel connected.

    10. If I had a friend or family member who loved these dolls as much as I do, I would SO help buy a doll for them.^^ Like a mini gift in part by me.

Now me, I got my first doll Sylvia as a Birthday present from my parents, and my second doll was also a partial birthday present (meaning I used money given to me from family and friends with which I combined with what I had saved to get my second doll Adonis). I hardly feel guilty because with Sylvia I had been drooling over BJD's and wanted one; my mom agreed that it would be a great gift if I really wanted her.^^ Adonis was a partial gift, so I decided I wanted him- my aunt adores him and when she saw he was in part from her she was quite pleased. :)

    11. Oh I wish I had the money to give someone a doll... Though, I seem to be the only one I know that likes these dolls, so perhaps it is a good thing!

    12. No, not yet. But there are two people that I truly intend to buy a doll for just because. <.< ... >.> ... Hope certain so-and-so doesn't read this post because I want it to be a surprise. Muah-ha-ha!

    13. i wish i had the cash to XD
Though Im planning on buying a puppil (sp?) or bythe (sp?) for my friend for xmas XD

    14. I bought a dollzone Megi for my friend about 6 months ago. I gave him a faceup and made him an outfit, and even sewed him a 'temporary' fur wig.(she doesn't sew, or draw/paint) I thought my friend was getting into dolls, (she even said she wanted a Megi and all these other dolls, and was picking out wigs and outfits online) but now she is completely uninterested. She hasn't taken a single picture, and the doll remains shoe-less, untouched, and only has the one outfit and wig that I made.

I regret the whole affair. *sweatdrop*

I wish someone would buy me some dollies lol.

    15. My parent's bought me my CP Ani Boy when I passed school one year... haha but sadly i've sold him and have regretted doing so but my mother and I talked about it before hand and since the bonding didn't work she didn't mind.

I do also plan to buy my mom and my girlfriend dolls in the future! (: [My girlfriend's when she moves in with me in 2009... it'll be a suprise. <3]

    16. Never, but I want to.
I have this malefriend that LOVES my Ducan and he wishes for a Camine, but he hasn't enough time to have job, since he has school and a band to take care of.
So I hope that maybe some friends and me could buy one for him - I could buy one for like two months paycheck, but I want my own money to x'P And besides, I like sharing stuff like this with my friends
      Friends giving friends stuff x'3~~

    17. I gave a tiny to a friend for her birthday because she was always so interested in my dolls. Now she's saving for a larger BJD of her own :)

    18. Heh, if I had the money, I'd buy one for my sister. She doesn't get why I like BJD's, but she's never seen one in person. I know her really well, and I know she'd flip for them if she had one :) Though she demands a decent camera first.

To all you who buy them as gifts:wow! So generous! :D

    19. i plan to buy a homme ducan for my friend samm for her wedding present. i really don't have the money to do it, but she's a fashion designer so i plan to sit her down some night and get her to drape some amazing clothing for some SD girls so i can make custom 'blashphemina's closet' doll-edition clothes to save up for her boy.

getting a doll as a gift is amazing - my friend tarlane bought me my unoa lusis, basqui, as a christmas present last year, and she's still my absolute favorite - i know that no matter how low i get with money, or if i 'get out of the hobby', i'll never have to sell her, because i didn't make the investment in her in the first place.

    20. Best I can do, my mom is getting one of my boys for Christmas, since my family has grown too much, and he is being ignored, and I can't bare to sell him. He'll be well taken care of among the dragons and elmos...
