Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. My first tiny dollinian was a gift from my wonderful friend Wendy. I saw the doll on the DDE page, and knowing that Wendy lived near by I asked her opinion (it was because of her wonderful blog that I first became aware of BJD's!). The next thing I knew, there was a little box winging it's way from Denver to England with a little tiny doll inside, just for me!

I have never forgotten just how excited I was opening it. Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my dollinian has helped to cheer me up in more ways than you could imagine. I have no idea if Wendy ever reads DoA, but I just want to say a huge thank you again for brightening up such a dark, dreadful time.

      *hug*

    2. my boyfriend actually gave me Sentinial (my migidoll Ryu) head as an early b-day pressy, and I am so happy with him (now just to get him a body:) )

and I did give someone a pair of eyes that I got default with my girl, I did not like the colour, so I gave it to a friend who had a doll coming that the eyes might fit :)

    3. I just prefer to choose my dolls (and other personal items) by myself and I hope all my friends know it. I will be SO disappointed if someone took the pleasure of choice from me. (Please, don't take offence? I'm talking about myself only and don't think it's wrong to have a doll as a gift... it just don't work for ME)
As for some dollie stuff though we (me and my dolls ^_^) got some small but well appreciated gifts.
A friend gave me a wig when one of my boys came in a random wig which absolutely didn't suit him and I haven't got a spare at hand.
The same friend gave me absolutely wonderful eyes for another doll - we were looking for "something like that... or this" - and she found just perfect eyes. It was the best doll gift, really.
Also I got some clothes for my puki and some accessories (hand-made, so it's twice a gift - I can't buy it, only get).

    4. does it count if we were the ones who gifted the doll? XD My little sister fell in love with bjds as soon as she saw my Ishka, and picked out one of her own that she wanted, even though she figured she would never get it, or at least not for a very long time (she was just turning 16 in a few weeks at the time). While she was in England my twin and I purchased her doll for her as a sweet 16 gift. When she came home and we had her party we made her open it last. The video we took is hilarious, as she spazzed and practically launched out of her chair squeeing. XD

Now my sister makes doll clothes for my Ishka and her Shinji, so I suppose that her supplementing Ishka's wardrobe counts as gifts. lol.

    5. My dear step-father doesn't buy me dolls (he's 93), but he does give me little gifts of money and I buy dolls with it. I think it amuses him that I still play with them at my age.

    6. WOW!!! That is so~ sweet!!

I do not know enough people that know BJDs, to have a "chance" to get a gift XP

    7. I'm actually buying my cousin and my sister a doll (Taeyang and MSD) hahaha.. i think they will love it XD

    8. I've never asked for a doll as a gift, with any amount of seriousness behind it. I've not recieved one as a gift yet, although I know I have someone planning on giving me my first Puki for my birthday if plans work out. (Nothing is secret when it comes to gift planning, nothing at all)
I'm planning to get my best friend one for our 10 year anniversary / her birthday / Halloween / Thanksgiving gift for next year. (We tend to find any reason to give small boxes of gifts to each other, so one giant gift will cover everything, at least until I start to find clothes for the boy.)
If its something you can afford, and you know the person will appreciate the gift, go for it.

    9. If I had the money, I'd buy my friend DoT Shall because she really wants that doll and I owe her so much, but I'm too broke to do so X.X

    10. I have a close friend who always uses my doll like he was a teddy bear.If she is feeling down seeing him always cheers her up, so if I had the money I would buy her her own doll.:) Probably a DZ floy, since he's the one she wants.;)

    11. I just bought a pongpong for perhaps my closest friend. I've known her for 9 years now, and she's kept me sane. She's given me a million plot bunnies and helped me develop my writing until I'm almost happy with what I do.

She's older than me and since she's approaching a special birthday next year, I decided to buy her a doll. I started saving, and bought her a puki puki Pongpong. She literally Squees when she sees pictures of his little tooth, and she loves minitures, so I thought he'd be a good BJD to start her off with. Right now he's shipping to her, and she still doesn't know.... so I'll let you know her reaction when she gets him.

    12. How sweet! Please do let us know her reaction. X3

    13. Hmmm, well my fiance wants to buy me a doll. However he didn't realize just how expensive they are! I know if he had the money he would, because he's listened to me on them enough, and started asking questions that he'd know where and how ^_^
I've kind of wanted to give him one though, and have been considering it!

    14. If I had money, I would buy for my friend ,who introduced me to bjd's, a body for her floating head. She's such a sweetie <3

    15. I bought my baby sister, she's 10, a 27cm Obitsu. I figured it was good because they're not really expensive (I paid about 40 dollars for the doll, eyes, and wig), they're not strung so I don't have to worry about that at all, and if she breaks it somehow it won't be as if she broke a really nice resin doll.

As for me, my mom paid 80 dollars for my B&G Rin's head for christmas and I bought the rest. She keeps threatening me that when the doll arrives she's going to take just the head, wrap it and not give it to me until christmas. :doh

    16. I haven't done it nor received any yet, but damn that'd be a great gift.

    17. I'm thinking of buying my best friend a Bobobie elf tiny for her birthday in march. ^_^

Oh, and my boyfriend bought me my first doll, an Angel of Dream Qian, for my birthday back in July.

    18. My friend got her pongpong today. I just woke up to the email:

Is this for me? Because if I'm supposed to mail him on to you, you may have a real problem prying him away from me. This is the cutest little doll, ever! He even has the lil fang that kills me off. And big grey eyes and soft silvery hair. And a lil red nose!!! Which I left in the package, in case I wasn't supposed to be playing with him.

You fink, now I'm totally hooked. ::looks sly and plays with dolly::

I think she's happy with him, but I had the advantage of knowing exactly what she wanted.

    19. The only person so far I've bought dolls for is my daughter. I just bought her first resin BJD for Christmas this year, a Puki. I almost bought DH an Elfdoll at the meet last spring, but the one he wanted we thought wasn't for sale. If the IDEX Elfdoll is one he likes, I will probably get that one for him. He seems to like the female BJDs and wants to learn to do face-ups with his airbrush.

I don't have any other local friends that collect dolls so I haven't bought any for anyone else.

    20. I have plans to give someone a doll as a gift, why not. its the same as buying something else for a gift. I mean if you would spend $300 dollars on a person for like say a tool BBQ (dont ask its happened) than why not a $300 doll for someone..^_^ I think it would be a wonderful gift

my sister in law is getting me a BBB March as a gift for chrstmas
all I think is that u should be sure the person wants the doll before you go out and buy it ^_^
