Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. I bought my mom a doll as her Mother's Day gift. :D

I'm not too fond of female dolls, so I bought two boys. My mom enjoys sewing clothes for them (despite her constant denial), but she kept pestering me about why I didn't get a girl. So I bought her a 60cm Obitsu Gretel and did the face-up myself.

I made her go on a scavenger hunt before she could get her doll, though.

    2. I think it would be a great gift...if it didnt cost so much! Thats amazingly expensive for a simple gift.

    3. I would buy one as a gift if i had the money and knew the person really wanted one/would care for it/was another BJD lover.

I see it kinda like giving a puppy or kitten as a gift, it can be a really bad idea unless you know the person well.

    4. I bought a DZ Chen for my best friend for her birthday xD

    5. I recently got my best friend of 9 years into BJDs, and I've been hoping to buy her a Puki Cupid for Christmas. The only thing I worry about is my friend's little sister stealing the doll or ruining it out of jealousy/immaturity.

    6. If I won the lottery, and she'd shown an interest in an specific one, my best friend would surely get one. Heck, if I won the lottery, I'd set aside some 2000$ or more, depending on how much I've won, just for awesome gifts for her! xD

      I wouldn't put it past myself to, also, custom a Mecha Angel girl into someone's character, since it's the closest we'd get to seeing this character "come alive." I'm way, WAY too selfless when I grow to really appreciate someone, even though this person isn't the most deserving of me doing something so insane for them. >.<;;

    7. I feel like I'd never do this. I could afford it, but I imagine myself being selfish and thinking, "Well if I have set aside this much, and am going to buy a doll... why not just buy one for myself..." I'm horrible.

Well, and I have no one who'd want one, anyway. ALTHOUGH, I have been pondering a mom-gift for a while. She LOVES The Tudors on Showtime, especially Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Someday if I have a lot of spare cash to do this, I'd like to acquire a JRM Minimee, and have it painted to look like his Henry role, and commission an outfit worn by him in the show. She'd go nuts.

    8. i got my dollfie as a present from y dad but to give someone a dollfie is going to be a tough since they're so much money regardless of whom oyu buy it from. unless its from a garage sale...

    9. Lol... I gave a doll to someone and she gave it back to me. It turned out for the best though. ~Gus

    10. deep down inside, I know I'm screaming "NO WAY".

well. cheap barbie/bratz/other common dolls, sure why not, if they will like it.
      but bjds. well. then.
I guess I'm just too self-centred and gluttenous. Why buy for someone else when I can spend the money on myself? And though It'd be sweet as a gift to a friend, it does cost alot and there are so many possibilities. What if the friend doesn't like it. What if the friend feels diminutive for have someone purchase something so expensive, and kill the dream of working hard for one. What if the friend, sometimes in the future, breaks up with you. Giving a doll.. I dunno, that seems like giving a big part of myself to someone, and that's a lot of risks and emotions involved.
plus I coulda spent it on myself ;D

It does seem like a nice idea for someone extremely close. If one can dare to spent that money on her/him.

    11. I gave my girlfriend my DoC Wi, because he didn't fit the character I had in mind for him, but he was always her favorite. So instead of selling/trading him, I decided to give him to her as a birthday present. She thought I was crazy. :D

    12. I would give bjds if only i have the money to do so. XD I wish someone would buy me one~ lolz There are lots of people whom i want to give dolls to but my wallet is not gonna be very happy w/ it though. >.<

    13. man, i WISH some one would buy me a doll for my birthday or some thing .... I dont think any of my family/friends have the kind of organisation to get together and buy me some thing like that. and thers a vast amount of my friends who are creeped out by dolls. which is a shame. :(

    14. lol Resu, make her workd for it!!!!

    15. I'm going to buy my lil sister a anthro doll for her birthday! I thought she should have a little bjd of her own! I would really love to get her a zuzu wolfy! Since shes doesn't like dolls but loves wolves! :)

    16. Oh yes! My boyfriend had fallen in love with my dolls and I think I'm going to get him a DZ Hid for his 19th birthday.

He knows about it, but is excited too!!

    17. I'm so... let's say annoyed, that I don't have money, and can't have money at all, that I think I'm going insane some not-so-far day. So, if anyone would like to buy a doll as a gift, or put a little donation for my doll fund... here I am!!

      LOL ...

Yes, it sound very funny, but I really feel angry, and sad, and idk how... :S

    18. I bought my little sister 2 dolls already and she has 4 more she likes, so we will see if I got money next year, I gotta be able to afford to clothe these things before I buy more XD

    19. Yes yes yes! =D I have actually. My really awesome best friend was in love with the MNF Luka sculpt and since we graduated this year I spent a really time long time thinking of the perfect gift for her. I found someone on the marketplace who was splitting their MNF Luka and I jumped. I got our two other friends into it and we split the price for the head. :D I did the face up special for her myself.
And somehow I managed to keep it secret till we gave it to her! -^^- She was really surprised and loved it, so it made it that much better. =D Now she's gone and gotten a body and sleeping head for her! Her Luka will be the Sun messanger to my Ryeon who's a moon messanger. <3

So, in short, yeah, I'm totally for giving dolls as gifts. <3 :)

    20. That is the sweetest gift that someone can ever give. Whether it be a B&J doll or stuffed animal, the giving of something so sweet and innocent shows a bond deeper than friendship--almost to the level of sisterhood or motherhood.

I have a great friend who I used to do a stuffed animal trade with unitl she moved away to school. Now that she is back, I hope we can start it back up. :3
