Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. If I had much more money, I would buy one to my best friend. I'm sure she would enjoy it :) I think I would buy a Dollmore Narsha girl with black hair - it's the first bjd I fell in love with, a very cute and lovely creation :)

    2. I bought my husband his lati yellow lea, he said she was sooo sad and had to have her to take to work with him. he adores her haaha

    3. If I can make more money, I will buy for my lovely fried and my sister.^^*_* Right now, I have money to buy for myself only.5555

    4. my first doll was a gift from my friends, and I got my mother a doll for her birthday, together with my brother. She loves her.
the reason behind giving a doll was simple really: my mother was never given a barbie and bjd''s are much more fun then barbies are, so we decided on a kiddelf lemon rather the searching for a vintage barbie 8)

    5. No I haven't.. 'Cause I don't have the kind of job to allow me to do that. Lol. But if I could! I totally would! I think it would be fun to buy a doll for a friend! Especially since I know they'd love it! What a great gift! 8D

    6. I'm planning on doing this very soon. My roommate's girlfriend and I are getting to be good friends, and she is on a very limited income..even more than myself. But she really likes mine and hopes to have one someday...sooo...I have an AOD body that basically I bought it for the minimee head that came with it..{seller wouldn't split}. I've had it up for sale and had no bites..so then I thought to get a head for it, make her into a Vampire {she likes Vamps}...waiting for the head from AOD.

Her birthday is close to Halloween so I hope she will like it..I plan to make an outfit, give her eyes, wig..the whole bit so she has a doll to enjoy right away... I feel I have been very lucky to be able to get the dolls I have had and have, and for the commissions that have been coming my way..so I just want to do it...and she is going to teach me how to sew clothes for myself and that is worth alot to me.

if it ends up we go our seperate ways..at least I will always know I tried to do a nice thing.

    7. A few yrs back I bought my girlfriend her first doll, a Hound from Tensiya for xmas, split with her a doll for her sister (DOC Si) for xmas, and a yr later helped her buy her second boy AOD Guu for xmas. She bought me a BBB/RS Mei for my bday/xmas last yr. We plan to split again for her sister's second doll for xmas. I'm trying to convice her to help me buy another doll for bday/xmas for me. ^_^;

    8. i plan on buying a doll for my girlfriend but im not sure which one. maybe a puki or get her to tell me again what fairy land doll she would get.... im not going to tell when though in case she sees this post....;)

next year i also plan to buy a RS mei for my little sister if she still shows interest with them...

    9. purchased a CP Elf Ttori for my husband's birthday as a surprise present. He loved it

    10. Iv never given or recieved a doll as a present, I always think maybe il ask my boyfriend for one but then what if we split up or something the doll would remind me of them and make me sad :( or on the otherhand if they bought me one and i went off it and wanted to sell it to get a different doll i really wanted id feel bad, anyone have thoughts on this or have experienced it?

    11. I'm always making my sister BJD for her birthday or Christmas. So far, I've made her 7 and I plan to do the 8th this Christmas.

First, I gave her a Yugi 60cm Obitsu 60cm, then a Shimizu 55cm Obitsu, then Hiroki Angel Region 43cm MSD, then Mr. Bingley BBB 60cm; then Keith Jack BBB/Obitsu head 60cm Hybrid, then just a couple of weeks ago for her birthday, a Chi no Suzaku Obitsu 60cm. I plan to give her a Saku/Ran/Chihiro 60cm Obitsu this Christmas to match her Chi no Suzaku ^^.

    12. I don't have any family/friends who are into dolls, but for Xmas 2 years ago my sister bought me a Christmas themed doll - I was so shocked and delighted!

    13. I bought one of my bestest friends a DZ Mo, 'cause she loved the one I had.

We actually all grouped together and saved up for it...we're so poor. But she loved it so much! <3

    14. A few months ago I sold my favorite girl to help pay for the boyfriend's rent, and today he gave me the money to get another Lishe. He said he was going to order one from Luts, but was afraid he wouldn't do it correctly.

So, since I've noticed that he's very partial to Hounds, I'm thinking about giving him one for Christmas. And if my boyfriend doesn't like him, well... all the more for me! :sweat

    15. I'm currently saving up about $300-$400 for a fullset LE DZ Aleister for my friend's graduation gift. Meanwhile I get to keep him until 2012 at least. :D

    16. I SAW IT!! BUT yes we are gettting some dolls for people for christmas

    17. Mods, if this is the wrong place to post, please move.

I feel like i really need some advise here. soon i hope te recieve some Brownies. And I am considering to give one away as a Christmas gift to someone I know from DOA only. I have seen her post interest in them, so i think she'd like one. Is this a completely crazy idea? Will she think i am chuckoo? What would you think if someone from DOA would all off a sudden send you a Brownie?

    18. Bumping for advice!

    19. There are a few people I could think of giving a doll to, but I probably won't ever take the plunge. I'd feel awful for giving someone the 'wrong' doll and I'd feel awful if I ever saw them sell the doll not just because I'd been the one to gift them the doll, but because my judgement wasn't correct for them and I'd embarrass my friend by giving them a doll they don't like. I also dislike wasting money in a very expensive hobby and I'm sorry, my dear RL friends, but I would rather have $300 in my pocket than spend it on a friend who will just have a doll as a shelf-baby :)

If we're getting into gift swaps I think it would be nice to give people clothing and accessories for the doll they already have, shoes and clothing sets can be stupendously expensive and I think it would be nicer in some ways to get a friend an H.Naoto or Dollheart outfit as a gift because if they chose to sell the outfit set afterwards there isn't the same emotional tie as there is for a doll.

That's a really nice thought, but first you have to weigh up your options. You say you only know this person from DoA, does this mean you got to know her here and you are really good friends now, or does it just mean you know her from DoA and aren't very close friends?

If she is a good friend, I think the gift of a Brownie would be a lovely Christmas present if you're happy to give it away...but if you are only acquaintances it might be an inappropriate gift, because the other person could feel obligated to pay for at least part of the doll.

I suppose you also have to think about how you would feel if the person didn't bond with the present you gave her? Would you be hurt if you saw it on the Marketplace, would you want it back? Would it affect your friendship badly if you did see the doll on the Marketplace?

    20. I plan on helping my best friend save up for a DoT Ducan once I get my E-an. But I kinda hope that helping out is going to turn into buying it myself and giving it to her as a birthday present. To me the concept of giving away dolls is still kinda awkward since they cost so much. But I'd be happy to give one to her anytime.
