Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. i have bought both my daughters Pukipukis... the younger will get hers at christmas but my eldest daughter even takes her puki to school ...she loves him so much
i have been given two valuable dolls (approx $900 worth) by a friend but they weren't BJD's (blythes) and i would never part with them

    2. Thanks Jescissa, you really made my point clearer to me.
I have shared quite a bit of personal, non doll related things with this person, we ask each other for advise on dolls. And Brownies are way, way less expensive than other dolls, even cheaper than quire a lot SD outfits.
I think I would be OK if i saw it in the marketplace. I ll think about it a bit more.

    3. I don't think there's something wrong with giving a doll as a gift, as long as you can afford it and do it because it will make someone happy. I'd love to be able to afford giving my dollfriends their dreamdolls, but unfortunately I don't have that much money to spend :sweat owever awesome gifts don't have to be expensive, it's the thought that counts :) Should I have a doll that I just couldn't bond with and I knew one of my friends would love to have them, I think I would just give it to them, or at least sell it for way less then it cost me.

    4. I gave my RS An to my friend Sammi. (Sammichan-71914 on DoA) because she had always wanted a msd. Honestly, Gunther wasn't getting any love at my place (I bought him in September of 2008 and have only made him one outfit). So, I gave him to Sammi because I knew she would give him a lot more attention and I knew her personally.

    5. Wow, if someone gave me a BJD for a present...!

I'd probably squee and run around madly. I personally think it would be a bigger deal to give one of your own dolls to someone than buying them one, because even if you're not that attached to them it's still a more personal gift in my opinion n-n!
If I had the money, I'd totally buy one of my friends a doll ;P She knows who she is!

      <3

    6. After I get all the dolls I want I might get one for my mom. She likes fairys so I might get her one of those. and their kinda cheap to me (in price) so that helps.

    7. Ultimately, its up to you! It sounds like this person isn't just some random you know from the internet and you already know she likes Brownies, so if you're comfortable with it and know the gift would be gratefully recieved, go for it :aheartbea Only you can really decide though!

    8. I have never given a doll to someone, But I'm lucky enough to have been given dolls.
My wonderful boyfriend ha actually bought me 3 dolls this year as gifts (still waiting for them though..).
I do think that if my economy was better I would perhaps buy a doll as a gift for someone..

    9. I'd love to buy a doll for my friend theresa, she doesn't have any spare money to buy one, and I'd love to cheer her up by giving her one, maybe once I've bought my first 3 I'll ask her what dolls she really likes and surprise her with one :)

    10. I just purchased a doll for my daughter, but I got her input first. I was sure which of the dolls she'd pick and was right - we are getting twinzies! LOL. Well, they are basic dolls with no eyes, wigs or faceup, but they are the same doll. These dolls are on the low end of BJDs, however if she decides she really likes BJDs I wouldn't hesitate to get her another. Heck, I might even consider getting my husband a tiny to duplicate one of his two D&D characters.

    11. I recieved kinda a gift from a lady I never met in the U.K. She let me buy her Dt Estella for an incredible deal (over half what I would of paid for it on-line) and now she is selling me a DT Daisy head--I can only pay half now and half later and she is sending it to me after I pay the first half and trusting me for the second!!! I almost cried when she emailed me--talk about trust!

    12. I kind of want to give a doll to someone, that being my sister, because she helped me out for my doll, and I know she happens to like DoT Calla, so I'm seriously considering saving up for one for her :) But uh, I'd have to get my mom around to the idea of buying another doll x.x

    13. I'm buying my mom a tiny for Christmas---next week I'm going to show her websites with tinies whose styles she likes, and then she'll pick out her favorite!:D Ever since she went and picked me up from a doll meet, she's been positively obsessed with tinies like Pukis and Brownies~ >w< I'm so happy for her; it'll be fun having my mum in the hobby with me.:):aheartbea

    14. Gao was a birthday present from my husband about a year ago. And I'm waiting for a FL PF Shiwoo that is my b-day present for this year.
      And her my husband's b-day I'm getting him a Peak's Woods Goldie.

    15. I have given a doll's head away as a gift before and was going to do it again. But *Sighs* I kind of regret that I sold the head I had meant to give as a gift to a member on DoA. :(

There's nothing like the feeling one gets when making someone's day. ^_^

    16. I would love to give my best friend Jade one
unfortunately, I cannot afford one, and neither can she
It must suck to really want a doll, and have your friend have one, but not you :/

    17. Lol, I never really sent one to anyone, funds are hard to find for me, but if I could I'd so buy a DOI A&D for my friend.

    18. I ordered HZ Wang Ye as a birthday present for my best friend ^^ She would like to have a bjd but thinks they are too expensive, so hopefully she will like her gift ;) I know I am a bit crazy with my presents for her, but she is so important to me that I want to do everything I can to give her a perfect gift.

    19. If I knew excatly the mold and the other options that my friend would like to have, I would definatedly give the doll as a persent.

Too bad my friends usually buy their doll quite fast once they have diceted to get one. Besides I hardly have money for own dolls so it makes it even more difficult to be so generous. May by smaller parts as hands and feet parts would be more affortable by now.

    20. I can't afford to buy a doll as a gift to another person, but if I someday could, I'd like to give my mother a really pretty little girl doll, because she likes beautiful fairies and angels (they have to have a particulary pretty face, she's picky) . But I wouldn't know what kind of a doll she would like to have and think as pretty, so I would have to ask her about it. Oh, and she doesn't like bjds, but I think that if she had one, she'd like them even a little (but I think she still wouldn't approve me hoarding new dolls :'D).
