Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

    1. I've given dolls to my daughters for birthdays and Christmas presents; most recently I gave my younger teen an Elf Chiwoo for her 16th birthday. I also bought a Woosoo for an online friend I've never met - she was supposed to be buying him from a mutual friend but then something else came up - so I bought him for her and had him shipped directly to her. I joked that it was proof of my insanity - that I simply gave away a Woosoo! It was worth it though; she'd been having such a lousy rotten time, and I just wanted to put a smile back on her face. :)

    2. I bought a Impldoll Evonnei that I plan to send to a family friend as a belated Christmas gift. This friend has always been supportive of my BJD hobby. She even sent me doll money as a Christmas gift one year! Since she used to make porcelain dolls and enjoys seeing pictures of all the dolls I've customized, I'll be doing all the customization work myself; face-up, body blushing, manicure & pedicure as well as sewing it a kimono. :)

    3. The two BJD I gave as gifts came from Luts in 2006. I purchased a CP Luts Delf Miyu (Type 1, normal skin) and it was a gift for my mother, who loves dolls since she was a child and helped me a lot to get my resin crew. I gave it to her as a surprise on her birthday, the day I showed her my crew. She loves her so much and it is such a gorgeous thing the way we may share this hobby. I also bought a MiniFée Ari Special (Normal skin) and it was a gift for a friend. I had the idea, I made the promise (Something I always keep), and in both cases I could afford it. Now that I remember, I also gave a floating head once.

    4. I've given... err, three now, all to the same person (you know who you are!). They're a Fairyland LittleFée Lishe (the Alice fullset), a Customhouse Ange-ai Hani and a Luts Bory fullset that is absolutely gorgeous. And, now I come to think of it, I ordered a CH Hanael just before Christmas for the same person - of course, it's debatable whether that one will actually ever turn up at all, knowing the sellers.

One of these days I'll get the dolls to her, too. I'm so ashamed, I seem to be hoarding them myself. Sort of. Two are actually in boxes still waiting to be posted from my parents' house, I swear! But anyway, she's pretty much my best friend in the world and while I can afford to buy things for her, I probably will. It's worth it just to see her reaction :D

    5. I really want to buy a Finny From luts for my roommate. He really loves finnec foxes and he finds it so adorable so I really think that is something I might want to buy for him.

    6. A dear friend gave me a Vinyl Obitsu for xmas this year (Technically my first BJD even though they apparently don't count on DOA). I've been wanting to return the sentiment by getting her the doll she's always wanted, a Soom MechaAngel Sabik. Trouble is, he costs as much as my rent T_T.

    7. I bought an Angelheim MSD-boy for my daughter. He was her dream doll and I bought him as a birthday gift for her.

    8. Hello, it's my mom's birthday soon and I'm thinking about getting her a BJD as a present.
The thing is, she's not into dolls. (Well I'm not too sure, haven't seen her as she's overseas and I don't think she's actually seen how cute these dolls are >_<)
I'm thinking about getting her a pukifee pongpong since it has a cute and friendly face. (I don't know... some suggestions would be welcome!)

Anyways! Have you ever gifted anyone a BJD? Tell me your story :)

    9. I tried to buy my mom one last year off the marketplace, but the person selling never mailed me back about the doll. It made me very sad, since it was perfect for my mom.

    10. I haven't gifted a BJD but my first BJD was a gift from my girlfriend.
She's had been trying to get me into the hobby for a long time and surprised me with it one day when she left it on my desk all wrapped up in a nice box. It was so nice to get one like that from her!
You should try to find one she likes/you think she would like. But in the end its more the feeling and thought that went into the gift that counts, right?

    11. I think you should consider getting her something that really suits her personality but a tiny is a good way to start. Might wanna include some special things like handmade clothes if you sew or doing the face up yourself if you do those. That way you really give her something amazing.

My mom got me my Resinsoul Song for my birthday but it's long been decided that with BJD's I do the picking since I know what I like and my parents well...Don't really know what dolls I love.

    12. I've gifted 2 BJDs so far, one was a Realpuki Soso for my Mom and she totally loved her (she's still her favorite doll ever) the other was a Bobobie Sprite for my sister (she sort of liked the doll and eventually sold it)

I definitely recommend getting a feel for what style of doll they like (or features that they really don't like e.g. can't stand thin noses)

    13. I'm saving up to sort out my boyfriend with the perfect BJD as his first! He doesn't know this, however.

    14. PongPong would make anyone fall in love with BJDs,I love that sculpt.

    15. I bought a DZ Shengxi head for my best friend. :) I also gave her an Angel street Orion head, but that was free with a body, so doesn't really count. haha

For my sister, I've gotten...um....ResinSoul Mu, AoD An, Doll Family Ling Feng, BBB Charisma/5star hybrid, AE Blueberry head, Elfdoll Wu/FDoll hybrid, DZ Luke, AoD Nini, DoD Bee-A and a couple of OT 1/6 Obitsus and a 1/6 Hujoo. :P

    16. I've given 2 dolls as gifts so far, a bobbie tiny for a few close friend who is like a sister to get her into the hobby (which is a why I do sort of regret but thats another story lol) and then of course my niece fell in love with my girls when she first saw them, so I made a deal with her (this this was like 3 or 4 years ago now lol) if she behaved I'd get her one for Christmas, at which she did the whole year, so she got a AR girl (so forget the mold), which she takes very good care of, and loves having around with her. I'm glad I can share with others.

I'm actually thinking of saving up and helping get a basic starter type doll for a friend who wants to get into the hobby but doesn't really have the money to, just haven't put much thought into it as since wouldn't know what one i'd do since well I wouldn't want to get an expensive one, she doesn't even want an expensive one herself, plus it would be a starter so she could learn before she starts getting stuff herself :D

    17. I have been on the recieving end of this, and am finally doing the giving, i am buying a BBB/RS (not sure which it is <w>) Mei for one of my closest friends as a special treat, she deserves something cool :) I'm probably ordering on Monday or Tuesday and then when it arrives completely outfitting it and doing a custom face up for her :)

    18. I received a doll as a birthday gift when I turned 18. :) To quote my mum: 'It's the last thing I buy for you, from now on you live by yourself and should learn how to manage your funds and be a responsible adult.'

I plan to buy a BJD for my mum, who really loves my boy, but wants a girl~ :3

    19. I've given a doll for my sister as a gift. It was for Christmas and it was a LatiYellow Lea SP which she loved, as she wanted a tiny BJD.

    20. I haven't yet, but I'm currently sculpting my own (cat) BJD. Once I start casting them, I'll definitely be giving some away to my friends!
