Giving a doll as a gift

Apr 29, 2006

1. I'd never ask a friend to buy me a doll, because I'd hate to put them in this position when they have to say no to me and feel as if they're bumming me out- because frankly, I think that if my friends had this kind of money, I'd never ever expect them to put it all into me. The same way, I love my friends- but I'll never buy someone a gift worth hundreds of dollars! Only family and my bf, who are the ones I'm willing to not only give money to but also vital organs XD.

2. Generally, I don't ask for really expensive stuff as gifts...I try to work it out myself, but a dear friend did surprise me by gifting me with a doll that I had on layaway and it makes that doll so much more special to me :) Perhaps if the people who care most about you know what you really want then they will help you without you having to ask.

For my older daughter's first (and only) BJDoll, I let family and close friends know that was what she wanted for her birthday when they asked and they were happy to contribute what they could to help pay for something that she really wanted. Again, it makes the doll even more special since loved ones helped bring her home.

3. *****n/a*****

4. These dolls are expensive, and therefore a personal luxury. With that in mind when it comes to luxuries I honestly think that it's rude to go and ask or hint someone else to buy them for you. :huh?:

On the other hand, if someone asks you what you want for an event or holiday and they have the financial standing to spend that much money or offer you a bit to help you out and they really want to do it then that's another story since you didn't come up to them asking or begging as though you're entitled to it.

5. ...I feel bad when someone even buys me dinner! I am saving on my own but then I am just weird like that. >_<

6. For me, it is too much to ask for... :sweat Maybe in case that I would pay a quite big amount (1/2 ?) for it, but I am not so sure about that :sweat But if I only could I would buy a one for my dearest brother :D

7. It depends on the occasion here. Hubby ordered me the Domuya special for our 25th anniversary in August. He really couldn't say no..he got a new computer! lol.

8. that seems like more than a fair enough trade off lol! its hard to outdo my mom when she a) buys everything she wants WHEN she sees it and b) makes way more money than I do lol.. its fun to try tho :)

9. that seems like more than a fair enough trade off lol! its hard to outdo my mom when she a) buys everything she wants WHEN she says and b) makes way more money than I do at the moment lol.. its fun to try tho :)

arg sorry double post

10. I'm getting my first doll in December as a gift from my family. She's nearly 600 dollars, but I'm trying to get all my family in on it. great grandparents, grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. lol. I can't wait for it.

11. If a couple of people could share the cost, and wanted to, then yes i think it is fine!

12. I would not ask for a doll from anyone, just because. But hey, if others can get gift dollies, rock on!

13. If someone gave me a full doll, I'd actually be bothered by it. My family shouldn't spend that much as a gift, unless it was a BIG group gift. (like got all the cousins, and aunts, and uncles together, and somehow pulled together enough for one.) And I wouldn't ask for that. Never.
If one family member bought me a doll, I would not feel happy accepting it.

If a friend bought one for me... again, has to be a group, or I would be REALLY bothered. gifts should not be that expensive. that breeds the feeling of needing to outdo one another. If your friend gave you a $600 gift for your birthday, and you only gave them a $50 gift on thier birthday... Would that not feel kinda...?
Again, I would NEVER ask for this, and I would be bothered by it if it happened.
That said, I would LOVE to pull a group gift together for some of my friends who are really wanting their first doll. A group gift of something special ties the whole group together, and reminds you how much you're cared for, without the pressure of giving something of equal monetary amount to them later.

If a boyfriend gave me something like that... I'd actually be peeved. It's again that feeling of owing something back. I really don't like it. If that person were a husband however, that would be different. maybe then. It's the sweet equivelant of a piece of jewelry. Then and only then would it be okay to me.

Generally, me and expensive gifts... I really dislike them. and dolls are about the same as diamond jewelry.
No. Not for me, thanks.

14. My first and only doll so far was a gift from my best friend. ^^; I felt so guilty, so I baby it a lot and show him pictures even if he's not into dolls.

edit :
aaand..I think it's fine to ask for a doll, as long as you're giving something back. My best friend is also my "boss" of a sorts, I teach him how to color for his comic...yet I do all the inking/coloring/clothes design anyway. I've been doing this for years. He knew I was -obsessed- with Unoas, I even dreamt of them. So one day he agreed to get me one. ^^ It's my favorite item I own besides my laptop(only because of internet)...oh who am I kidding? They're tied. He put aside money every paycheck he usually put towards new art supplies for us until we had enough for one.
Would I ever ask my family for one? Hell no, they laugh at me just for carrying my Unoa around. They're like "How's your dolly?" in a teasing voice then laugh as I walk by. -.- they'd never even put money towards doll-stuff at Christmas or my Birthday if they knew it was for doll stuff. The only thing my mom likes about them is the high resale value...and I'm not selling my Unoa, ever. I already said I'd sell my BED and sleep on the floor before I sold my Unoa. He/She(both genders) brings me so much joy and entertainment...I could never resell.

I'd never ask any other friend of mine for a doll either, it's different when you're working for a friend. o.o to me anyway.
I'm going to get two Unoas for my G/F, because she enjoyed playing with mine so much ^^ it's gonna be fun to play together.

15. It might be too much to ask for, but that doesn't mean it can't be given anyway. :) I've already got a doll ready for my best friend when I see her in September as a gift, and the next two on my list are for my other best friend and my mother. It depends on the friends and family you have, and also yourself. Karma goes around and comes around (not saying you should expect a doll for a gift if you give one or anything like that) and I'm doing this for my friends and family because I know it'll blow them away. ^_^

16. As a general rule, I get £200 money for birthday and for Christmas from my parents. So I use that to pay for a chunk of the doll's cost. (Although it's more like paying my Mum back for a doll I "had" to get at an opportunate time. (due to events, eBay, limiteds...)) Other than that, I wouldn't ask for a doll as a gift. And although I would appreciate money, I like people getting me other, not doll-related stuff, because I don't have the money to buy those things for myself. :sweat

17. I personally would never ask anyone to get me a full doll as a gift. That's far too much money for a hobby item, and I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone spending so much money on something that isn't necessary to my life. I'd contribute gift money to my doll funds, but I wouldn't go as far to asking. Definitely not.

18. Personally I would never even consider asking my parents for that amount of money, because I know the answer will be no almost straight away!

But they are contributing in January as its my 18th and I dont want a big party or anything. But Ill still be adding my own money ^^

19. I thought that asking for a doll for a gift from my parents would be too much, so I asked for just a body. But my Mom ended up saying that it would be wierd having a headless body around, so I should get a head as well.:o And when I got my first doll around Christmas, my friends told me they had been thinking of pooling their money for one just to hold it over my head. We actually did this to another friend with a $400 gundam figure; $20 dollars bought a peice of the cost. (though the rich guy in our group footed most of the cost) That said, I wouldn't ask for another doll unless it was around the $200 mark. $500 is just a bit too much for one gift to me.:sweat

20. It would be soooo great if someone gives me a BJD as a gift but I know that's not going to happen. I don't even get that much cash as gifts.
