Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Giving up other dolls for BJDs?

Jan 15, 2009

    1. I am selling off all of my pullips, volks, obitsu, azone, and takara dolls to buy more bjd's! :)

    2. Yes. I have sold most of my vintage Barbie collection just a few Mod era ones to go.

    3. I was looking at a lot of artist porcelain and vinyl dolls just before I got into BJDs (so I was working up to the higher pricetags... although BJDs were still a big jump!). I stopped buying them when I found BJDs and have considered selling some, but I think the market is pretty weak for them at the moment, and I don't have that many anyway...

I was getting into Barbies, too... but again, didn't get a lot, haven't sold any, have pretty much stopped after BJDs. Same with Cy girls and other 1/6 sized dolls. I still look at them now and then... and did crack and buy ONE customized Dollfie, and painted others I had lying about, and bought 1/6 sized clothes, but that's it.

I got two Pullips while buying BJDs, which was pretty crazy. I haven't got any more, though. It's too expensive to have too many interests!!!

    4. I also collected pullips, then thanks to blasted flickr pics, I started to become curious about bjds. Since then I have slowly been selling them (my pullips) off. I have made my first purchase, a DOC twin-b, in november. Sadly, she hasn't arrived yet =/

    5. I used to collect Bratz and Barbies.
At the moment, I am sorting through my left overs to sell off.
I am no longer interested in them, so why hang onto them when I can get some beautiful sculpts that pose?

    6. I haven't sold any of the dolls I own (Pullips, Petite Blythe, Dollcena, and vintage 80's stuff - I don't own Barbies or other fashion dolls) but I have sold exclusive outfits, wigs, accessories that didn't fit the dolls I have.

While I love the "others" and will never sell them, I have stopped collecting them. I add to my vintage 80's collection occasionally, but there is only so much of that to buy anyway. It isn't as though companies are adding to 80's toy lines. My funds for collecting have been channelled into ABJD.

    7. well i had some little dollfies I sold when I upgraded to the resin kids. That's about the only dolls I gave up. I extremely sacrificed some of my hobbies though, such as Anime in general. I sold off a bunch of dvds, manga, and figures. I wait for dvds to come out in full series sets now and I buy manga when I feel like reading, but I just don't collect the figures at all anymore. And I also gave up a good portion of my jpop/jrock cd collection as well. I still but cds but instead of 2 times a month it's like once every 3 months. And then there's cosplay, I used to be infamous for making around 4-6 new cosplays a year and now I make 1 maybe 2 if I make any at all. Dolls didn't so much take my time, they took all my fun money.

    8. Before going into BJDs, I customized 1/6 scale Obitsus. I amassed quite a lot of them, and my parents demanded that I cap my collection off at 11. I still had two obitsus that I haven't customized yet (which were bought well before their demand), so... when I have free time I'd customize them.

After I bought my first BJD part, the thought of giving up my Obitsus never crossed my mind, because I love them just as much (if not more) than my BJD. ^^

    9. I've actually been scared of dolls up until I found BJDs. I actually still can't look at porcelain dolls without feeling creeped out. So no, I haven't really given up any other dolls. I've got some collectable barbies in my closet but I don't think they're worth enough to sell anyway.

    10. I gave up my barbies a long time ago just because I didn't play with them anymore really, but I can't imagine giving up my other dolls. They're all so adorable, and I love them too much. Besides, I doubt I could get much from them anyway.

    11. Well, I would say it's something you'd need to think really hard about before selling them off.
Personally, I still actively collect both Pullip and BJD. So it's not like it isn't doable. Sure I sold off a couple of girls, but they were more of a bonding issue, just like people on here have with their BJDs. The nine Pullips I have right now, I can't see myself parting with, and I still have more on my want list.
BJDs I've managed to just keep to a comparatively smaller want list occupied by Migidolls, PongPong, and a girl BJD that I'm still looking for the perfect mold for.
I'm rambling. Anyway. Consider it heavily before selling them and regretting it later. Meanwhile just keep saving. Even if a doll does get sold out on the website, you always have the market here, as well as ebay.
      :)

    12. I wasn’t interested in dolls before BJD but I have a lot of manga figures. No one has been sold to buy my first BJD but I had to make a choice and I have given up this collection…

    13. I have one blythe and one pullip, and while I haven't sold them I haven't bought any more... which is definitely "giving up", as they used to be my no.1 hobby :)

    14. Barbie's houses
      XD
My little cousin will definetely enjoy them more, and now I have space for the bjds

    15. I've been thinking about selling my American Girl Kit, but she has some purple magic marker stains on her arms and forehead due to my sister getting a hold of her when she was really little... *sigh* plus I've given her lower eyelashes and some more freckles. I'm not sure if I could get anyone to buy her, being that she looks a lot different than she did when I bought her.
I have, however, given up cosplaying to pursue BJD collecting. I cut apart some of my wigs to get the wefts to make doll wigs, and I'm going to be selling the rest of the wigs and all of my costumes on Ebay soon. The money will be going toward my next doll. Might be about time to sell off some manga and books I don't read anymore, too.
It's a little sad to think that I'll probably never cosplay again, since I've had so much fun in the past, but... the dolls are worth it. Maybe I'll just dress them up for conventions in the future. ^^

    16. I've been selling off other dolls, but mainly because my doll room is packed! The BJDs aren't in there - they stay in the living room with me.

      Hugs,

      Jan

    17. yes. i justneed to get rid of 5 more things. i am not selling y geisha dolls, though.

    18. I have parted with very little of my other dolls. I've been collecting for a very long time so I have a variety. Some dolls and things come my way because I occasionally go to general doll conventions but I tend to sell those off right away. The majority of my spending money nowadays will most likely go to BJDs but I do still look at other dolls. When something catches my fancy, I'll get it to add to my horde of dolls regardless if it's a vinyl or resin.

    19. I've sold or am selling my least favorites, but it's something I've periodically done anyway. I keep a porcelain my grandmother gave me, my two LE Hummel porcelains and three fashion dolls (one American, one Chinese, and one Japanese). I occasionally purchase barbies and anime figures that I inevitably end up selling so I'll probably avoid that now that I'm finally working on the BJD crew. I definitely recommend the "if you don't absolutely love it or need it, get rid of it" rule.

    20. I just have a few dolls, and I prefer having a great variety than 50 of the same kind. I'm into blythe and moofs, and I want to get a kamar and a bjd sometime soon (maybe for my birthday! august ^^)
