Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Giving up other dolls for BJDs?

Jan 15, 2009

    1. Over the previous four or five years, I was obsessed with collecting other character goods, but I feel like I've graduated a little from that. I've since sold off a lot the stuff, and have mainly kept the things that I feel like I would deeply regret selling.

    2. I used to collect figures, nendoroids and I personally own Isul and Taeyang too. I don't think I can sell them because I still love them like before, not because I've changed my main hobby to BJD.

    3. i only had barbie when i was younger. Last year i thought about would be goo to sew for them again and then through a coincidence I found BJD and its so more easier to sew for my 72cm hunk :-)

    4. Andie, that's too funny! We've gone down the same road with dolls. I also started with Barbies, sold them, got into other vinyl jointed dolls like Pullips which I have almost 20 of now. But, now I'm on this crazy bjd obsession and can't see myself ever turning back. The good news is I still love my Pullips and have no plans of selling any of them. If anything, I'm planning on rewigging and doing some customization. I have one of my Taeyang photos as my profile pic. :)

    5. I sold most of my Barbies long before getting into bjds, but I still have a whole horde of Bratz dolls, which I'm thinking of selling to fund my bjd hobby. Keeping a few of the favorites, though, just as I did with my Barbies. I've never collected another kind of non-bjd doll, besides Bratz and Barbies.

I don't really consider my choices "giving up" other dolls for bjd, it's just me and my preferences moving in a different direction. :)

    6. I've changed the types of dolls I collect a few times, but I've never really completely "given up" a type of doll--I still have some old ones and if I ever saw a new non-BJD which tickled my fancy I wouldn't automatically not get it just because it's not a BJD. I have gotten rid of most of my Barbies, but that's different since most of those were childhood dolls. Now that I'm thinking of it, it is time to cull the herd a bit more...

We can't keep everything we've ever been given. I'm sure our loved ones wouldn't want us to feel burdened because of their gifts.

    7. When I was younger I loved collecting Barbies and other figurines, and my passion for dolls has restarted when my daughter began doing the same with Monsterhigh dolls and Pullips...then I met BJDs on forums and fell in love with :love

I don't think to sell none of them, they're all part of the crew !

    8. i just sold 3 hujoo cats to buy the Thyme horse. i didnt bond the way i wanted to and the horse was so much more of a want/need to have item. i dont feel bad at all.. prob cuz i didnt bond with the cats in the first place.

not sure if this will help or not but i have sold dolls for better dolls!

    9. I had five or six Monster High dolls that I got rid of when I started getting into BJDs. The quality on those dolls just didn't compare to my resin ones, so I didn't really want to keep them. I guess I saw them more as toys, whereas BJDs are more personal and artistic.

    10. For me it's quite the opposite xD I got interested in dolls with the BJD, and THEN bought some hujoos and a Obitsu for my little sister^^

    11. I've been into fashion doll collecting (both 1/6 and 1/4 scale) for a few years before buying my first BJD. Don't think I'm going to eventually sell all my Fashion Royalty and Sybarite dolls, but I definintely started to treat them just as high-end dress forms. :)

    12. I've sold most of my collectable porcelain dolls, but I had kinda lost interest in them anyway. The extra BJD money was just a bonus. :)

    13. I've had a cycle... At first, it was Nendoroids, then Pullip dolls, and now BJDs. (Although I don't think I'm completely out of Pullip dolls quite yet...)

    14. Give up a doll? NO, I think not. I just add on -- kept all my Crissy family crew, all the American Girls, and just added BJD's. Love them all!

    15. The only other dolls I have ever collected are Monster High dolls (mostly Frankie and Draculara). I also have one Ever After doll.

    16. Um, yes. LOL! My old collections are all gone.

      Linda

    17. I've always collected dolls..vintage, antique, Barbie, AG, Pullip. Himstedt, My Twinn etc....
I have sold a bunch to buy BJD's.

    18. ...hmmmm, nope! Mind you, I don't play with or customize most of the other dolls (I like to mostly have my non-bjd on display) but I still make a beeline for the doll aisles in toy stores and department stores to see what's new! I actually really love some of the doll lines they have aimed at kids now, don't see any reason (maybe other than space) to give up collecting them!

    19. Hi, I'm fond of dolls 4 years. To buy my first bjd, I sold a lot of their other dolls. Were dolls that I bought for fun and highly desirable, it was blythe and tonner, and cheap gaming dolls.

    20. I was never into doll collecting exactly, but I do have two huge glass display cases filled with my old art dolls. Now I'm eyeing some of that space for my BJD collection. Selling the old art dolls doesn't seem to work, so they'll probably end up as Christmas gifts this year. Because I REALLY need those shelves!
