Grumpy Tiny?

Oct 11, 2007

    1. Sorry Sher, I don't use patterns--I cannot follow them at all. I just measure as I go and then do what I want. Basically start with a chain stitch the right size for the neckline, and then gradually increase it. When it's the right size, go along until you get to where the arms is--chain about 4, and skip enough to make the "sleeve", then continue on across the chest until you get to the other arms, and chain 4 again, then go the reast of the way.

      I usually use single crochet for the bodice, and then whatever pattern I want for the skirt. I am still working on this dress, so the ends are not tied off yet, but you can get an idea of what I am talking about;

Then I go along and add whatever trim I want. This is for Pink (by DD-Anne) but would also fit a Pon.

    2. oh jenny that's adorable. Most of the time I make up my own patterns, too, unless I'm feeling particularly lazy and just want to bang out a dress quickly without a lot of ripping out, LOL... cuz a lot of the time, what I have in mind doesn't work, and I have to rip out and try again.

      ADORABLE dress.

    3. Thanks Sher--
I was using Google and found a lot of free Kelly patterns, so you could try that.

Re; the Notdoll patterns. My friend can sit down with one of those dresses and copy it, she is amazing!! They use TINY thread, about a 12 or smaller. I ws told by Notdoll that the lady who makes them hurt her hand, and willl not be making any more for a while. What a shame!

    4. Jenny, Pink looks so erm pink in her sweet little dress. Well done.

    5. Thanks Valli!! Now I am making her a cape to match--she was complaining about the cold here in Minnesota, and it's not even winter yet!
      Jenny

    6. I am so in awe of all your talents with wool. I have two left hands. I can knit a little but never learned to crochet. Your babies look so cute in their new dresses

    7. Jenny, what a cutie-pie she is in her pink crocheted dress. I like to have some sort of basic, written pattern to work from, then I can improvise on future versions.

I wish Notdoll would find someone else to do the crochet for them. I just love the bi-color square hats and the striped pant outfits. May have to render up my own version of that.

    8. Awww, I looked for it - my mother must have it, and she's nearly 200 miles away... She also has a pastel portrait of me with the same frown. I remember being somewhere interesting like the zoo and being told to sit VERY STILL while the artist was drawing. It annoyed me greatly.

    9. I can understand that very well. You were having fun and they stopped you. Grrrr....

    10. My Kelly patterns fit her perfectly. Only 2 books are crochet though - the rest are knit (7 total).

If you want to see a photo of them, let me know. I've made over 1,000 outfits for the little imp.

      Hugs
      Mary-Lee

    11. Mary-Lee, I would love to see the crochet books, do you have a link for them? Even tho I can't follow a pattern, my best friend can, and she has a Pon too!!! (Maybe if I buy some patterns she will crochet me some dresses?)
      Jenny;) ;)

    12. The Braided Bun wig in golden strawberry blonde arrived today.

    13. do you have velcro on her head - or...?? I can't get juniper's to fit that well. In this wig, Juniper looks like the world's tiniest St Paul Girl Barmaid. ROFL...

    14. Sher, try Aileen's tacky glue. It holds pretty well, and you can peel the wig right off when you want to change them. I use it for my girlies all the time, because velcro always messes up my wigs.

    15. Hey, Sher... no, I don't have any velcro on her head. She's totally bald underneath, however, this blonde one fits like a dream.

The black braided bun, on the other hand... is a bit tight and I really have to push it down on her head to wear it. Maybe it will loosen up a bit, keep trying.

    16. Oh so darling!! Is that a size 3 or 4? My black size 3 is small on Pons head, but 4 is way too big!! It's such a pretty color on her!

    17. Hi, Jenny... it's a size 3 wig, the same wig in black braided bun, but the black one is a bit smaller. Don't know why.

    18. Jinji looks so adorable in that wig. She has totally lost her 'grumpy' look.

Want to hear a funny? True story... took Pfft! to a friend today. She is wearing a very frilly light turquoise long gown and bonnet. Very OTT and old fashioned. My friend takes her, looks at her and declares her very grumpy indeed. So I thought I must look and honestly she really was glaring. So, I took her and she was just the sweetest little angel! I don't think she likes some people. I really could see the change in her. Must be the light, right? *giggle*

btw I use a tacky fixative from our local dollhouse shop. It keeps wigs on well and rubs off if you don't want it. I like changing wigs and this works so very well. It's also used to get them to hold props. Can't see it as its almost clear.

    19. What an interesting experience, Valli... you never know with the Pons!
She looks so cute to me in your pics, but I never saw her that way.
Guess grumpines or sweetness is in the eye of the beholder! (or the camera lens)

    20. Hmmm.... how did Pfft come across to you, then? I've only seen the 'glare' 3 times now. Twice when other people held her and once when I was trying on that orange dress I knitted. She would not wear it for a while, but I won. As Sher would say, I'm bigger. *grin*
