Has there ever been one part of a doll that made you not buy it?

    1. I'm glad I'm not alone! I have a strong dislike for realistic or even simple genitals on dolls. Barbie smooth for me please. Thankfully dolls are usually clothed so it's not a huge deal breaker.

    2. I want the sculpting there, but not in a way it’ll make certain outfits impossible because of how they’re sculpted. I’ve had both male and female bodies sculpted in a way that was just so unappealing when dressed that I ended up hating the bodies entirely.

    3. This made me remember that years ago, when I found out the Hypermaniac boy bodies had no bits, it kept me from buying one. Yes, I could've bought him another company's body, but -- what would I have done with the bit-less one? That, and my husband said the other BJDs would make fun of his bit-lessness :XD::3nodding:

    4. This has been mentioned earlier on, but knee and elbow joints. If I don't like the look of them, it can completely put me off the doll and stop me from buying.

    5. Hands. They need to be realistic and expressive, or it's a no-go, no matter how nice the face.
I adore MaskCat girls, but the way their hands are done are a huge turn off for me, so no maskcat girls for me (yet).

Hybrid making is sometimes a solution but often comes with its own headaches.

    6. hmm its hard to say...i mostly buy boy dolls (or just put girl sculpts on male bodies lol). I guess its gotta be the jointing/posing, i need my dolls to at least be able to touch their face but i hate when double joints are sculpted blocky or have a weird piece (this is mostly knees). I know I can replace a body if I don't like it but its such a hassle :sigh

    7. There is certain style of knee and elbow joints I don't like. I don't know how to describe them, but they are the Aimerai MSD style knees, where it looks weird (to me) when bent.

    8. Lots of things. Too big head. No profile picture of the head. Long second toe... Lazy sculpting... ugly ankles, ... Elephant legs. Single joints, no tight joints. Just to name a few.:sweat oh and bad posability. That's a big no for me.

    9. I know that some of these have been said quite a bit on here but...
      • Mega boobs. If they look like they *might* touch the doll's chin if it looks down; I'm out. Also, I can't imagine dressing them, or posing them when they're so front heavy.
      • Unproportionate heads on masculine bodies -I see this most with Anthro dolls that they have plopped onto a man's body. It's almost like they're totally pin-headed on this body builder physique.
      • I might get crap for this one -but the newer "model" style dolls. I'm not going to say which company, but they have really broad shoulders, pointy breasts, and a lot of people post them with their heads tilted down to their crazy shoulders. They look thin and sickly for me.

    10. Bewbs! Even if the body is perfect otherwise, too large or unrealistically shaped breasts can ruin it for me. I guess I could consider modifying the doll in case she is not tan, but so far there has not been a doll that I'd have bothered to buy and modify.

Another thing is elbows that do not rotate. It's an odd fixation of mine to twist the elbows around, in almost all of my photos. I have one body that does not have this property, and while she poses amazingly otherwise, I will likely swap it as soon as I find a body that will have elbows that allow for other poses than just straight bending.

    11. For me, I sometimes fall in love with a face sculpt then I see the body. I'm usually not interested in like "wonky" bodies. I absolutely love Lillycat's faces but the disproportionate body just ruins it for me personally.

Also not a big fan of "built-in" fantasy body parts on a doll. I don't mind magnetic horns or ears but things like hooves, centaur legs, bird feet, open chest or other fantasy grooves in the resin etc etc. (Excludes DC and a good portion of Soom dolls for me.)

As much as I love my slender girls and boys, Doll Chateau and Popovy are too skinny for my liking. (Makes my Resinsoul look thiccc compare to them.)

Iplehouse sculpts are stunners but other than hearing they're horrible posers, I'm not too drawn to 'too realistic' sculpts (But their fantasy sculpts are definitely up my alley.) Souldoll is another one I love aesthetically but their small heads kind of turn me off. (Same with Black Cherry Dolls).

All in all, I don't like sculpts that are too realistic or too wonky. There needs to be a happy medium for me.

    12. So the first proper bjd I had my sights on the buy was Crobidoll LJ but I got a look at the crobi torso for that size range and I hated it. It's so weirdly long. I started looking for hybrid possibilities which is how I stumbled on the migidoll ryu sculpt and fell in love.

    13. Weirdly muscular bodies are a no-go for me. I had planned on getting a grey Resinsoul SD to shell my one D&D character, and had the money ready to buy him before deciding to look at what their SD bodies look like. I have a Mei, and adore their MSD females, but the weird muscles sculpted along the sides of the ribs and the calves of their male sculpts were a complete deal breaker.

    14. -Boobs. Like many, I hate gravity-defying basketball boobs on dolls. I get that they're supposed to be titillating (pun intended) and look good in clothes, but to me, it always looks like they're wearing an invisible ultra-pushup bra and it makes my chest hurt by proxy.
-Joint styles. I will sacrifice (some) poseability to aesthetics almost every time, so if a joint looks weird and unnatural to me (looking @ you, peanut joints), I steer clear.
-Uneven face sculpting. While I like the whole "handmade with some level of imperfection" thing, I'm an artist myself and once I see a "flaw," I will never be able to unsee it. The ones that bother me the most are when the ears sit at different heights or the eyes have noticeably different shapes.

I'm sure there's more that I'm not thinking of right this instant, but you get the gist. I'm fussy and I'll go out of my way to appease my fuss.

    15. I keep getting updates on this thread so I’m going to add another thought—I’m totally the opposite to a lot of people on here and that’s another one of my deal breakers when choosing a body. I think doll breasts really should defy gravity. I don’t care if they look natural naked, I care that they look natural under a shirt where ostensibly the poor girl would be wearing a bra! When the first Feeple60 body came out I was super annoyed by how naturally the chest was shaped because it looked like they were just braless all the time even though they had an E cup and like… who does that?

Breasts are a hard feature to sculpt because they aren’t one shape all the time, so if I have to choose between a body looking good naked (when I never display my dolls topless) or under clothing, I’m always going to buy the doll who already looks like she’s wearing a bra/corset. It looks more natural to me for my purposes.

    16. Oh, totally! More than once I fell in love with a doll but wasn't too fond of the fantasy parts. Sometimes the company offer the human version, but sometimes not. I love fantasy dolls, I find them very beautiful, but since my collection is very simple, I tend to purchase the human dolls.

    17. you got me laughing to the point of tears with the titillating and so on!
damnit, i love tart wit <3

    18. I’m a little bit picky about noses and mouths, this last ones specially when it has desproporcional teeths! So awful :ablah:

    19. Speaking of boob size . . . I cringe when I see a doll with a child-like face and gigantic boobs. It looks obscene to me. Like how some pervy old man would want an 8 year old to look. I'm sorry if this offends anyone. Everyone has different taste and different ideas of what is pretty or cute. But to me it's just plain creepy.
      :shudder

Something I am picky about when buying a doll is the knee joint. I know it's impossible to look like a real knee when bent, but if it looks really exaggerated when sitting, it is very unappealing to me.

    20. Gosh it can be a lot of things. If we are talking about heads. It's about personal preference really. But my personal preference is generally lips and eye shape. I'm not one to like dolls that are too rounded. I like a little more angular face shapes. Usually an open mouth is a big reason a don't pick a doll. The only time I do is when the open mouth isn't open too far. So I can use a face up to make it look closed. I'm don't like open mouths or showing teeth (unless it's like vampire teeth or orc teeth) but yea. Open mouth is usually a big no from me!

As for bodies. I loooove to pose my dolls. So its all about joints and what's pleasing to look at. I personally dislike 3 joint torsos. Out of my experience and the dolls I have owned, dolls with a 3 joint torso are pretty floppy and have a hard time sitting straight up. I also agree with others with elbow and knee joints!
