1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Have pictures ever turned you off from a doll

Jul 17, 2009

    1. Oh yes! I agree with what fishcake said. Sometimes with me it's vice versa. I'll see pictures on here or DA and think to myself, "Wow, they look awesome! Let's check them out!" and when I get to the site they look horrible...It makes it really hard to tell what the doll actually looks like and makes you think you may not like them when in fact they really are better than they appear. If you saw what it looks like in person and you searched around Da-which in my opinion gives you more accurate pictures of the dolls than the actual website-and you liked them, then I'd say you shouldn't worry too much about not liking the one you'd get. Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for!

    2. Have pictures ever turned you off from a doll?
I can answer this: yes, lots of times.

I'm still at the stage of saving and searching for my first bjd, so I looked at lots of pictures.
Sometimes I found that the official promo pics were really lovely but then I found an owner pics that looked so different and it wasn't what I was looking for..

But I know faceup makes a lot of difference to the doll so I ended up saving lots picture of custom faceup and the default faceup to compare..

Recently I also looked for posing pictures to see the elbow/knee joint since I saw an owner pic of a doll that looked really weird when bending the knee. Although the doll looks ok when fully dressed, the knee joint really turned me off.
Yeah I'm fussy like that :sweat

    3. Yes, late last year i fell head over heels for a particular new doll and was so close to ordering but decided to wait for some owner pics. I don't want to name the sculpt or company because I don't want to offend the owners but those pics on the thread REALLY put me off the doll altogether and I have decided not to get her now..

The company in question do produce some beautiful dolls but they do a lot of airbrushing and styling and take a lot of photos but they tend all to be of similar angles. This can be quite misleading, it certainly was in the case of this specific doll.

    4. When I saw ResinSoul Dan in person...I melted! I HAD to have her! Seeing the pictures on the ResinSoul site...never would have bought her. The pictures make her look like she has pouchy cheeks and just...uninteresting. I have only seen one amazing faceup where she looked amazing. It's really a matter of doing your research. Sometimes the company will over photoshop and make the doll look better than it is, or the opposite.

    5. I've found that in general, the Bobobie and Resinsoul company pictures really don't show off the majesty of their dolls! A few user pictures immediately changed my mind on a mold. :)

    6. Well that has never happened to me, only the opposite. As many have mentioned, RS/Bbb just can't photograph their gorgeous dolls for life!
In general I don't like female dolls at all, and when I looked through their website nothing but the boys sparkled my interest --- until I saw owner pictures of Mei. She is my greatest and only love in female bjds and I love my own Mei to death <3
Their boys also look better irl, at least my long does <3

    7. It's happened both ways. :[ There have been molds I've fallen in love with in company pictures that just don't deliver in owner photos. Then there are some dolls I find lack-luster until I come across the owner photos and find beautiful customizations or angles. <3 Perfect example is one of the boys I have on layaway. On their website, I could care less for the M. Kaillar, but the one I'm buying I'm in love with due to the owner pictures. D.O.D. didn't give him justice. Same for the MNF Rheia- didn't care for her on the site, but after seeing one in person, I really want her!

    8. For a while I found myself iffy about Demi, because I found a large portion of her owner pictures looked... preppy? Which was exactly the opposite of what I saw in her that I liked in the company pictures. But from what I've seen, every mold can have as many different characters as it does owners, so I'm not letting that discourage me from getting her! And since I've raided the forum for owner pics, I've found a few angles I don't much like her at... but I still think she's perfect! :chibi

    9. Definitely. One of my biggest annoyances with company pictures, is that so few of them want to show you profile pictures- the head viewed from the side. Profile is so important! I loved one doll until I saw owner pictures of her face from the side; Yikes! Her face looked like it had been smashed in. Needless to say that I changed my mind after that...

When I first saw Soom Shoshon on the site, I sort of shrugged my shoulders and said; it's just another Soom monthly with hooves. I think it's maybe the way they photoshop their images. But once I saw him in some owner pictures, really saw him, I fell in love. His facial proportions are just about perfect for a character that's been very difficult to find a sculpt for. I've finally been Soomed... Of course, he's well sold out now :sweat One day, hopefully.

Also agreed that Resinsoul and Bobobie need better pictures of their dolls. Ai did nothing for me on their site, but once I saw her in some owner pictures... I wouldn't mind owning one someday, and I'm pretty picky about my sculpts.

    10. yea,
I was in love with Clovera from DZ and i was dying to have her
but when i did researches of her i found out that she wasnt my dreams doll because later I fell in with Bloody Alice from peakswoods
and I found out that i like peakswoods dolls more than DZ
Alice is more adorable than Clovera for me x3
so i decided to buy Bloody Alice instead of Clovera xD

    11. Yes. I was for sure going to get dollzone aurora, but almost didn't due to bad owner pics. In all the pictures, the wig was positioned too low, hardly giving her a forehead, and it made her look very weird. Also, the bad lighting made her eyes look like blackholes, but I took the risk and got her. I've come to realize that all bjds look better in person :)

    12. Maybe it's sad to say, but yes, frequently. For me, a faceup is one of the most important things about a doll so if I'm looking at pictures of a doll and I hate the faceup, it *definitely* turns me off that doll. And I'm uber-freaking picky about faceups.

When possible, I like looking at a potential new BJD in person before committing.

    13. Every Volks doll looks terribly awful in the stock photos. Walk into a store full of them and they look glorious~

    14. Company photos seem to make the dolls look so different. I can't count how many times I saw a company photo, really liked them, and then saw owner pics and decided against the doll. I wish I could see more in person... ;_;

    15. I couldn't agree more on RS/BBB. At least half the dolls on my wish list are RS/BBB dolls, but they wouldn't be on the list if I had just the website to look at.
I prefer to see owner pictures, at least five or six different ones and preferably not with an 'artist' face-up. I prefer to buy my dolls blank so I can put my own character on them, and not the company's, and I want to see what other 'average' owners can do with a sculpt.

With pukipukis I had the opposite - I saw one owner picture, looked at the site and fell in love (with Darjeeling). But now that I've seen dozens of owner pictures, I don't really see a 'character' there that would fit in with the rest of my dolls... i still find her adorable, but just not for me...

    16. When I was in research mode... yes. I just had to remember that customization is the name of the BJD game. What someone else likes might not float your boat. So I scoured for "blank" pictures instead. I actually wish that all stores showed blank pics of their dolls or faceplates.

It is sorta like going to an empty house and being able to imagine how you would decorate it vs going to a highly themed/decorated house and not being able to get the image our of your head. You know?

    17. It happened that certain owner pictures kept me from buying a doll. Sometimes the dolls look so different, if they are not perfectly illuminated. If people style their dolls in a way which doesn't attract me and I only see those kind of pictures I become insecure. This almost kept me from buying a doll which I ended up buying, though. Now I love him so much, because I styled him the way I like.

    18. Definitely, yes. I've changed my mind in both directions due to pictures.

There's at least one doll that I went in full circle on. I started out hating the sculpt, slowly fell in love with it, had to have it, then then hated it again. All of this was due to pictures I had seen of her.

    19. Yeah, I find dollshe's company photos to be horrible. I never liked the ones they had way back either, on eluts.com. Yet owner pics can make them look, imo, absolutely head-over-heels to die for *-*. Which I originally found out to late, having been so put off the stock photos that I never bothered to look at owner ones 'till after dollshe withdrew production the first time.¬¬

I also find most soom dolls to look worse in owner pictures than on their site& have learnt the hard way I proberbly won't like the doll as much in person...though I kinda wish I still had a chalco. Not thinking of customisation ideas untill long after the doll is sold? Baaaad!

    20. I always make sure to look at as many versions of that sculpt as I can. If I find tons that I dislike for what I want then it makes me rethink. but I find most of the time I like the dolls more be looking at all of the other pictures. I often find the company photos don't do the sculpts justice.:)
