    1. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?

      If so, Why?

Yes, several times. I wanted to make some changes to their characters.

      Did it feel strange?
For the most part, no, because I made changes to them because something wasn't working already. It felt like a change was necessary.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
No, because I wanted to change the character, and part of doing that for me is giving them a new name.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
Hmmm...I think some names feel right or don't feel right at times. It's nothing so specific as one and only one name that is the doll's true name that will work. But some names won't fit a doll's 'vibe.'

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
I've had a number of characters develop more, and sometimes in unexpected ways once they got doll bodies. I've also made the conscious choice several times to out and out change characters entirely.

    2. Yes, I've changed the name of my dolls many times. Emily was meant to be Iris. Sophia was Sasha and then Alice before I settled on Sophia. The doll I recently sold had numerous names while I owned her. The only doll that has kept her name from the beginning is Tegan. I guess it takes me a while to figure out which name suits them best, I normally have to wait until their finished before I can decide for sure.

    3. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?
      Yes, done this twice.

      If so, Why?
First time I changed doll`s name for Luts msd girl, that is already sold now. She was bought as a gift for my gf, just because she liked the doll. She had no character and no background story, and we changed her name after we thought up a story for her.
The second time it happened to my CH Nari, I bought this dolly to be a cute little boy, but then changed the character for this doll. A boy became a girl, the name was changed also. X)

      Did it feel strange?
      No, not at all.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
It just didn`t fit the character.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
No, I don`t feel something like that, I usually buy dolls to fit my original characters, that already have name and stories of their own.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
      Only a little, maybe, 1% ))

    4. Yeah, I've renamed my B&G Sky. He used to be called Aya, but I changed it to Alexander. Though some of the people around me still refer to him as Aya, to me he is Alex :)
Aya.... just didnt sit right after a while.
I'm very fussy about names...when I play video games where you name your character, i often re-start many times because the name doesn't fit right!
I guess thats why Im having trouble naming my new boy...

    5. Dunghill cracked me up! That was great! yeah I would have changed the dolls name too, poor kid doesn't deserve to be 'dunghill' XD

thanks for all your awesome posts, it's so interesting to see what people think and the reasons they change things about their dolls. I'm also glad to see I"m not the only one who thinks their doll has "Spirit" in a sense. :D

    6. i am considering this right now, i have a hard time with names so i rarely ever feel comfortable with them, i envy people who can name their dolls so easily.

    7. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?
Yes, three of my dolls have changed names (one is a head)

      If so, Why?
It either didn't fit, I changed the character or everything around the doll changed (like time and place).

      Did it feel strange?
No, it felt right otherwise I wouldn't have changed it. :-)

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
I guess the name just didn't "click" it was just a name I liked and wanted the doll to have but wasn't the right one.

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't?
If I wanted to change it, yes.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
Maybe... But I know I wouldn't change the names of my pets but could for my dolls.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
Yes. My first doll have changed character a lot of times.

    8. Yes. The doll's character stayed the same, but his name didn't really suite him, so I changed it (a bit). It didn't feel strange at all, it felt strange to keep the old name.

    9. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?
      Yeah.

If so, Why? I call them whatever fits at the time. They tend to keep a base name, but then sometimes I'll add or take away. Also... sometimes I just forget the name.

Did it feel strange? Nope. It's still the same lump of resin.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name? Usually I just change my mind about what I want the doll to be? I basically just give them names to tell them apart to other people.

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't? yeup.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
As someone who has a lot of nicknames... no. I call it like I want.
Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her? Not really.

    10. Have you ever renamed a doll you own? Yes, Fionan's been through a few names and I don't know if Fionan is going to be the last one.

      If so, Why?
He didn't care for them. Fionan doesn't feel right either, but we settled on it in the end.

      Did it feel strange?
Not really, names are mostly for other people's benefit.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name? I didn't like the way it felt, like a suit that didn't quite fit. He just seemed so unhappy and awkward with all of the ones we tried. Even Fionan only grudgingly works, so I doubt it will be his final name, but it's been pretty permanent so far.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called? Most of them do, some of them aren't as forthcoming with a name but they're fast to tell me what it isn't.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her? A little, but for the most part they're the same. Little things pop up that I didn't know (like Fionan loves teddy bears) but overall they stay the same.

    11. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?

For dolls that I owned from the start - never changed names. Only nicknames, because over time some ways of referring to a doll might become more convenient than initially.

      If so, Why?
I only changed name of a doll I bought from a friend, even though I was used to calling the doll by old name, I felt like changing it would make it "mine".

      Did it feel strange?

no, since it was a step not to make it feel strange ^^
Although I was considering changing a name of another doll, but eventually left it as it was. it DID feel strange.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't?
maybe. There is still one doll I have that doesn't have its character finalized, so even name might be subject to change.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?

Well.. I believe a doll is a doll, and the name of a doll appears from a way I feel about this doll. But I agree that the way the doll looks might suggest some names to me.
For example, one of the dolls I own, when I saw her I thought that she looks ... French. So when I finally ordered her, she got a french name ^^

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
not really, but my attitude towards some dolls changed over time. As I said before, there is a doll I can't have finalised for some reason, because the way I envisioned it in the beginning didn't work out at all. So can say that its personality changes over time.

    12. Yes, I have indeed! My DK Ying Ri has actually gone through two character changes (and therefore name changes). When I bought her, I intended for her to be called Clara and be an adorable but headstrong blonde French girl character that I'd recently created. When I got her, however, I was in the middle of selling one of my old dolls and my Ling Ri just looked so good in her old wig...so she ceased to be Clara and became a reshelled Rayen. Then I decided to sell my Ling Ri, so I did a few new faceups on her in hopes of selling her. Lo and behold, I do a lovely natural faceup on her with light brown eyebrows and lots of lovely redish pink blushing, and she became Clara again, this time for good (I hope). I guess I should have just listened to her about being Clara in the first place. =P

    13. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?
My initial reaction was, "Oh, only once or twice." Then I actually thought about it and realized I've changed my dolls' names around quite often.

      If so, Why?
The new names just sort of clicked with me, moreso than the old names. It's hard to describe why something clicks... I can only say that a correct name heralds a flash of insight into the doll's personality. And a wrong name is... flat. The doll stays... well, a doll.

      Examples:
In one instance, the doll changed genders on me, going from boy to girl. So, one new girl body later, and Kiros became Kira. (Funnily enough, the name Kira was suggested by a friend who had no idea what I'd named the boy-version.)

My pair of tinies and my pair of MSDs both switched names on me. The tinies switched genders (so the names naturally followed), and the MSDs switched personalities (so again, the names also changed).

On other dolls, it's because I couldn't find a name that clicked, and would just kinda settle on something. And eventually, a new name that really fit would pop up. So, a pair of twins named Shin and Sai became Briar and Robin. Bob became Luke. Alice became Rose.

      Did it feel strange?
Nope! As soon as a name clicks with me, it sticks. If anything, the old name feels strange.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
Definitely that last one - it did not seem like the doll's real name. I fully acknowledge the fact that the dolls themselves are inanimate, but I'm the type who enjoys putting a character into the doll, and the right name is an important aspect of that for me.

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't?
Having renamed dolls in the past, I will likely rename dolls in the future, too. I have at least two dolls with what I consider "temporary" names, and am simply waiting for ones that really click.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
Nope, I am firmly in the "dolls are inanimate objects" camp.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
Oh yes, they almost inevitably change personality over time, whether it accompanies a name change or not.

    14. I renamed my first doll, both to help me bond with her, and as her original name restricted her from changing her character around too much. I changed it to a name that would better suit the different character, but I still didn't end up bonding with her. :( Now I can't refer to her by either name.

    15. i dont think i Could rename my doll, even if i wanted to xD
it would make it werid because she seems alive to me, you can rename your friend or kid so i just cant rename my doll haha xD

    16. I bought a DZ Kay as a son for another doll. Which got boring really quick XD
I was thinking of selling him for a long time but one day i put a white curly mohair wig on him and BAM. He was my little modern vampire chibi~ <3
      Renamed him Zariel from Russell.

    17. I never literally changed the whole name but I have added a second one, putting the double-name to use on regular basis. It was mainly an accident when I wondered how would a different name sound and realised adding it as a second one addd alot more idea and bueaty. So, my ex girl Mary became a Mary Rose what happened to suit her so much better than her single name used before. I was very happy with this and although she's long gone now, I might grab the idea for a new doll again.

    18. No, I haven't re-named anyone, unless you count getting a doll second-hand and naming them. I got a couple of dolls off the marketplace and named them, although I have no idea what their original names may have been. They arrived on my doorstep and said "HI, I'M _______". :)

I usually wait until the doll arrives before choosing a name, so that they can tell me who they are before I commit to something. Of all my brood, I only knew the names of two beforehand, and I wasn't even 100% sure about Ysandre's name until she arrived and didn't seem to object to the name I had picked.

    19. I have. I renamed Davix (ResinSoul Long) 4 or 5 times before I settled, and even still I call him Dave.

    20. I have done this with many times but most of the new names are quite similar to old ones. There are dolls that originally had different names but I forgot those names and now re-named them again.:sweat In other cases a doll comes without a name (you know - body only, like Obitsu or Dollfie Dream), so I need to find a name. But if I like the original name I do not change it. Sometimes the original names fit the dolls quite well already. :)
