1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. When I ordered my RS Lan I wanted to name her Delphine. When I got her and really looked at her,I realized that name and character didn't suit her at all. So I named her Dahlia after one of my OC fanfic characters.
Meggie,my volks MSD is getting a new name too. I just got tired of that name and I never really did anything with that character. So I'm going to rename her Aurelia and give her a new look.
I don't think I would change a doll's name just because a lot of other people use that name. With so many like-minded people in this hobby,I would expect a lot of people to like the same names.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
I think that's the main reason I'm changing Meggie's name. Either it doesn't suit her or she's just not happy with her character.

    2. I've come head to head with this "issue" countless times.

Well, used to be that once I bought/ordered/layaway-ed a doll, I tried to think of a name for it. But I find that once in a while, the name doesn't seem to suit them once I get here. I am a great purveyor of the idea that dolls have personalities (and as such, a preference when it comes to their names), so for me, if the name doesn't stick (and I keep forgetting what they are called), then I change it. My two big girls were supposed to be named Aisu and Kuin, but they ended up becoming Morianna and Morning.

And then, my Yo-sd Eddie was named Eden when he came. But then I didn't like him as a boy, so he became a girl. At that point I decided that he needed a new name, so I renamed him/her Akari (to match with his sister Asako). Well, he is now still a she, but I kept forgetting that I renamed her and still continued to call her Eden. So after a while I gave up trying to change the name, and instead compromised on the full name being Akari but the nickname being Eden.

Nowadays, I've given up on thinking of a specific name beforehand. My dolls names are sorted by different themes, depending on the "faction" they belong to (because they are all characters in a story). So I just decide which faction he/she is going to be in, churn out a list of names in advance, and then when he/she gets here, I try out all the names until I get one that just sticks.

    3. Haha, yes and no. This has been an inner conflict for me for awhile. When I first got into this hobby, I was determined to get a doll for my oldest character, because at the time that was the trend in my group of friends. I have small conflicts with the character itself because the name was from stupid middle school antics (which is another story entirely). I suppose half of my problem was I was impatient and wanted a doll in my greedy little hands then and there, so I picked the first doll that tickled my fancy instead of considering my options and not worrying about the wait time. I picked a SOOM Gena and, while it might've worked out if I had gotten the right wig and outfit at the same time, I've slowly begun to realize she's just not that character. The wig I ordered awhile later, while appropriate for the character in mind, wasn't aesthetically pleasing with the doll as much as the original wig was. After that I decided she was her own entity, but I just don't know what to call her.

I'm always hesitant to say what her name is because it feels awkward to me, and I think people realize that. So mostly what I do now is call her R. Shortened to just the first letter of the name. I've been strongly reconsidering calling her Rose, but I'm still wishy washy about it. She's the only doll I've had this problem with. The rest of them fit perfectly.

    4. If so, Why?
Usually when I get the doll home, the names that I was thinking of for him/her either feel right, or they don't. Like some other people say I try them out for a couple days, usually before I take any pictures.

      Did it feel strange?
No. The first name usually felt strange.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
      The last one.

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't?
      n/a

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
Yes, usually. If not, then I am not connecting with the doll.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
Sometimes they did. Sometimes they were who they were the minute I saw them.

    5. No, I have not renamed a doll because I can't. All my dolls attach very quickly to their names once they come home, and it "becomes" part of them: changing a name pretty much changes their entire character. So I have to take great care in the very first naming!

I had already thought up a name for one of my dolls before she arrived, but I wasn't all that satisfied with it. (She was named after a bird, but none of the names/words I could find were perfect.) But I decided to give her that name anyway, which she adopted the moment she arrived. Months later, I came across a name that I liked a great deal more. But my girl already had her name and it was too late to change it. I ended up giving that name to another doll.

However, I have no problems 'recycling' a name, if one of my older characters is defunct/dead and no longer 'using' it... ;)

    6. Well I had three dolls who came home and decided they didn't like the names I had picked out for them and they would go through a few name changes but usually within a week they would pick a set name and generally whatever name they have within a week they have for life!

    7. Name changing is a habit of mine -.-' My poor boy had like 4 names before i finally called him Ren~^^

    8. I changed the name on my pukifee Luna. Her first name was Eliya but I didn't bond with her and she didn't have a character. I was close to sell her but then I came up with a character, and slowly she started to change clothes and style and wanted a new name. It took a while to find a name that I bonded with and that was good on her. The new name is Hazel and we both love it and she's going to stay :)

    9. no i haven't and i don't think i'll ever will. i get used to whatever i name them after calling them that name for a while, and so far i am satisfied with their names.

    10. Have you ever renamed a doll you own? If so, Why?
Yes, because I'd decided to overhaul my collection. When I was figuring out which doll to let go, I didn't really want to let go of their character either, so I ended up combining that old doll's characteristics with the one I'm keeping, and since the kept doll is now an essentially new character, I'd also decided to change the name.

      Did it feel strange?
      No.

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
      No on all counts.

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't?
Yes, if I decided to overhaul again.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
      No.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
      Sometimes.

    11. I haven't changed any names yet since I have only one doll at home so far and I haven't been in the hobby long. Parker and Jack will absolutely stay, but Abani's name may or may not change. I keep wanting to call her Nina for some reason. We'll find out in a few months when she's home, I suppose.

    12. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?
      Yes, two in fact!

      If so, Why?
I was honestly sick of their names, and they didn't fit them either.

      Did it feel strange?
It felt a little weird trying to adjust to the name change, even though I implemented it myself!

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
Yep, I got tired of it. One of my dolls had a Japanese name and it just reminded me of how immature I was when I was younger... somehow.
      They also didn't seem like the dolls' real names;;

Would you rename a doll if you already haven't?
I don't have any plans to do so!

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
No. I name them according to how I dress them. Would this name fit their dressing style? That's what I think about.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
      I guess :>

    13. D's name was Gabriel before I changed it. I'd had the name picked out even before I bought him and it suited him at first but eventually his character started evolving and the name didn't really suit him anymore. I still love the name Gabriel, though, and he still feels as if he is Gabriel, but at the same time he feels like he's Deimos, so I may find a way to work the two names into his character

    14. Yep! When I changed my first dolls face-up, I felt her character/personality changed! So I changed her name to match... It doesn't feel strange.. I think you just know when the name changes for your doll (if ever), I think since they belong to us, the owner can change as often or never as they like~

    15. no, I don't think that I ever could/would rename a doll, I could never imagine calling Nadeko something other than "Nadeko". I'd be too used to calling that doll "x" and/or having it be "x".
that's why I take so long choosing a name in the first place, so that it's perfect for that particular doll.

I do sometimes feel that the doll has a name and it's my job as its owner to figure it out

    16. Have you ever renamed a doll you own?
      Yes.

      If so, Why?
I first named her Celestica, by my favourite song, the name's really cool, but I couldn't get used to it, and still called her by her mold's name Rao, and then Rika/Frederica, like Umineko's Bernkastel, just poped up in my head, and here she is, my Rika-chan ^^

      Did it feel strange?
It felt strange to call her by her originally planned name, which was kinda weird, I felt absolutely no strangeness calling my mmo char Celestica for a long time... guess my char's jealous :D

Did you get tired of the old name? Did it become too popular? Did it not seem like the doll's real name?
It didn't seem like doll's real name, just didn't fit her.

Do you feel as if your doll has something of a life of its own, a name it already wants to be called?
      No.

Did the personality of your doll change as you got to know him/her?
No, in fact it's the name changed because of her personality.

    17. If doll has name, I stay it like this,
if - don't, I name it for comfort to talk about.
But I never think about any doll, that it's alive or smth.

    18. When I first bought my Pukifee Pongpong, I named her Fay (Fairy) but it just didn't suit her, so now she is called Chi ^_^

    19. The first doll I had, I'd originally named her Mitski but after having her for awhile I didn't like that name anymore so I decided to change it to Mikka.

    20. I've changed a doll's name slightly. Most of my human-ish characters have a first and last name. Maxwell used to be Maxwell Sanchez but it didn't work in my head so it's been changed to Maxwell May.

Other than that if a doll comes into the family who doesn't have a name then there is a good chance they won't be staying. I often choose a name right after I purchase the doll. The few times I couldn't come up with a name the doll ended up being sold.
