1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever taken apart another kind of doll to better your BJD?

Jun 6, 2009

    1. I recently totaly decapitated a porcelin doll, and I do feel a little guilty but I used every single part of her! I have an idea for a photostory that could even use her head...

    2. Ya I have done it a few times. Usually I don't like the wigs but there have been some exceptions. I look at the thrift stores for dolls wearing outfits I like. If I have only taken the clothes off the doll then I will redress it in something different and redonate it. I always feel guilty, especially if I have taken the eyes and cant redonate the doll. But some of these dolls have really nice clothes.

    3. My friend has mutilated a porcelain doll for the eyes, and also took her clothes. She got some perfect sized eyes from it though. XD
She now thinking of breaking another one...Good thing they're just cheapo dollar store ones.

    4. GUILTY! I've done it many many time, since I've found BJD.

    5. Once I cut up up a Liv doll for the eyes (they looked great in my BJD :) ) and stole her outfit and wig for a different BJD.

I did feel a bit bad though (especially after the doll head was rescued by my sister and left on my desk, it looked very very creepy!)

    6. Oh yeah. I've done this more than once, and I'm sure I'll do it again in the future.

There was a little teddy bear I bought from Five Below for the sole purpose of stealing his sweatshirt for my MSD. It turned out he was partially sewn into the shirt, so I actually had to cut him up to get it off. I felt a little bad at first, but ultimately had to laugh at myself when I really thought about how strange I must've looked mutilating a plushie for his clothes. Anything for my bjds!! XD

I also removed the dress & apron from a plush doll I'd had as a child (without having to destroy the doll this time, thankfully lol); I thought the outfit would fit nicely on my Bambicrony girl and I was right. ^_^ I recently did the same with the outfit from a collectible Anakin Skywalker doll. My little Leeke boy now makes a fine Jedi! lol

    7. Wahhhh! too cute!! :3

    8. I've done this too! :)

    9. You can get nice Victorian-esque dresses off of baby dolls with broken heads etc in thrift/charity shops. When the doll itself is beyond much repair but the outfit is lovely and very cheap, I will buy it, refit the clothes to a BJD, and then either fix up and redonate the source doll, or dispose of its parts into my craft supplies.
My only rule is never do it to a doll that might be a valuable or rare antique, and never destroy what can be saved and fixed up afterward.

    10. *looks warily at her porcelain dolls*

That thought never crossed my mind...then again, I only have boy dolls and all my porcelain dolls are girls, and on top of it, they were given by my mom so they're very special to me. Even if I had female dolls I'd not be able to take them apart. But that's a great idea for people who own porcelain dolls and have no emotional attachment towards them.

However, I like to buy ken dolls and steal their clothes for my tinies =D

    11. Nope! I don't think it's "wrong" or even "weird"...but I just couldn't do it. The idea of taking apart a porcelain doll (or a Liv, or a Ken or whatever) just doesn't appeal to me. They tend to stare! :sweat
