1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you set yourself a doll limit and have you been able to keep it?

Jun 4, 2017

    1. Yes, and every time I set a limit of any kind I end up breaking it :sweat
Rules and processes seem to work a little better for me... anything that gets me to hesitate and think hard about my purchase.
Limits, not so much. There's always a doll who is cute enough to be the exception to a size or quantity limit.
I am already getting close to what was my desired maximum that I set not long ago, which is a good signal to slow down, but yeah, there's almost definitely going to be a lot more dolls that I will consider must-haves in my lifetime :abambi:

    2. I had one and I said I’d stop at 12. That didn’t happen. But slowly the dolls I actually want has dwindled and I’m pretty happy with the ones I have. I definitely got a rush when I was first in the hobby and wanted ALL THE DOLLS but my tastes really narrowed down since and a lot of sculpts I thought I wanted then I realized I don’t at all. I think at that time there were certain “it” dolls that were very popular on social media during that time (2018ish) but I don’t feel like I want any of those sculpts like I maybe thought I did back then.

    3. I was supposed to limit myself to the single digits......yeah, broke it a long time ago and it's not stopping. I'm trying to downsize right now though. Most of my dolls are 1/12 in size, so it's not a big issue. Yet.

    4. Other than at the beginning of the hobby setting a limit of one doll, I don't think I've bothered to set a new one for myself because I now know that if I love a doll, can afford it and have the space for it, some arbitrary limit isn't going to stop me from getting it. :sweat However I do feel like at the moment I'm a doll or two over some sort of natural limit for me, as in, every time I list all of my dolls in my mind I completely forget 1 or 2 and personally I would like to be able to remember everyone, every time.

    5. Yes I have set limits for myself but they keep getting bigger!

    6. When I bought my first doll I told myself it would be my only one. Then I got a second doll, which was fine and I said I'd be fine with my two dolls.
Now I have 6 dolls, one on the way, and a bunch more off topic ones...
I think it's safe to say that my plan has failed amazingly. Really glad it did though, I love my dolls so much <3

    7. I never had to set myself a limit of dolls, my paychecks does that for me all the time hahahah!

Really, paychecks is what always set the limit for me. I can't afford a huge house and I'm already kind of a shopaholic, so I have to control myself in order to not get buried in stuff. Currently I have 9 dolls and am thinking of buying a new one, but only when I finish selling all the props and furniture occupying my hobby room right now. For a doll to get in, something has to get out.

    8. I remember a time when I really just wanted one doll, my grail boy. He was my first, but then over the past 20 years, I grew my collection to 6. Though my wish list is ever growing, I keep thinking about what will happen to them if I'm not around anymore. . . . It's a depressing thought, but if my collection grows out of hand, the person I'd like to will them to would not have the space for them. Imagining my little resin family getting split up makes me pretty sad, so I'd rather keep my collection small than have that happen. It might still happen, but that thought alone helps me keep a cap on my collection.

That, and I've got other hobbies, so I can't blow all my money on BJDs much as I'd love to bring home every make and mold I fancy :sweat

    9. My limits are really only space and money. If I can afford a doll, then heck yeah, I'll buy it. I've had to accept though that I am just about out of space, and I really don't want to store dolls away. I want to have them on shelves, which is a challenge because my space isn't very large and I collect more than BJDs. But, small spaces creates a necessity for clever space management - I've used every square millimeter! So basically, I have room for maybe 1 more big doll, no more for minis (maaaybe...:whee:) but I do have more space to fit the littles in. :sneaky Trying to limit myself in any other way than the above mentioned reasons is pointless. I know myself too well!

    10. I've been thinking about this quite a bit and I have decided my limit is $50k for a doll.

    11. Long ago I made 15 my limit, then 20, then 25 and now my limit is 30. :XD:I'm trying *really* hard to keep it, but I love tiny dolls and they're so easy to grab!

    12. I am limited only by the space I have in my house and the fun money in my bank account.

I'm (loosely) kidding. I used to set number limits, but they've never really worked for me. Instead, my new limit is to finish the dolls I already have before adding more to my plate and trying to prioritize my wishlist into "must have" and "nice to have," which cuts down on frivolous FOMO purchases. "Must gave" denotes dolls I've pined after for months or years in a serious manner, "nice to have" are dolls I generally like but don't pine for in any meaningful capacity.
