Have your dolls been mistaken for real people?

Jan 17, 2009

    1. I think my doll is obviously a doll.. My camera is fooled though, and so is Facebook! It always wants me to 'tag' my 'friend!'

    2. Have not really taken my kiddies out there all that much for fear of damage so no one has mistaken them for human and I am Ok with that lol Now there are some onther dolls that look so real it is uncanny.

    3. Haha its quite funny when people mistake dolls for humans. For me its when i post pictures of my boys face on Facebook i get comments like that's a really pretty picture of you (meaning me) lol!!!!! i dont know whether to take it as a compliment that they mistake my male doll as me haha

    4. Mine have mostly been hermits so they haven't had a chance to appear as anything to other people.

    5. We had a woman scream bloody murder when she came around the corner and saw Ed sitting on the floor in Barnes and Noble because she thought he was an "underfed midget".

    6. I've had my dolls mistaken for babies twice. The first time I was carrying my 70cm in the library at university and a guy walked up to me and was like "I thought that was a real baby!" it was kind of amusing because my boy always wears a shirt and tie and a trenchcoat... apparently babies nowadays are snappy dressers. The second time I was shopping in town with my Delf boy and a woman thought he was a baby, despite the fact that his hair is quite violently purple.

    7. I've had people do double takes when It comes to my photos.
Also, I've noticed that doll photos tend to confuse people. :sweat

    8. I did have Valentine, my 70cm guy, mistaken for a kid once but more often he gets mistaken for a person in an entirely different way.

Every time I take him out I hear "Who is he supposed to be?" and for some reason people get REALLY confused when I reply with "He's just himself".

Seriously he's been mistaken for Alice Cooper, Chris Angel, Peter Steel, Ozzy Osbourne and a bunch of other guys that I just plain don't know. XD

    9. The one that really had someone thinking she was real was my vampire doll, Bela, who is a female Hui Ka. I'd posted a photo of her on a photography site and they didn't realise until they read the text that went with it that she was a doll! And her little fangs were showing and everything!

    10. Lol, yes! In this picture (sorry, it's a big picture :sweat):

    11. People stared at me when I carried my babies onto the plane.
And the guy at security check demanded that I open my bag and ask: do you have a kid in there....
I tried sooooooooooo hard not to laugh!!

    12. Yes, but not in person. I took photos of my doll at a place called Tiny Town and there's a bunch of mini scale buildings and houses and basically a 'tiny town'! I took pictures of my doll on the porches of the houses and on the streets of the small town, so basically she looked perfectly proportioned to them! It was very exciting. I sent my parents and friends a few of the pictures and they asked questions like "Oh, is she a new friend from college?" "What's her name?" "Can I get her number?" and I was like "WOAH." awesome. :3

    13. My friends. I still remember a pic that I took of Aidan in front of my room at my old dorm. Everyone asked me who is he and what was he doing in a girls' dorm. And there's this one time when I was at the airport, I put Aidan in his pillow and carried him inside my backpack (despite him being a 60cm). The security asked me what is it because it looked like a dead body thru the scanning machine. I laughed really hard every time I remembers it.
My older brother always says that my boys looked real and gets pissed at the fact that they looked handsome. He also can't stand my boys' fashion sense. :sweat

    14. While I don't have a doll, I took plenty of pictures of other people's dollies from my first meet. However, this was on my iphone, not an actual camera, and I had saved a really good picture to use as my screensaver. Later on in the day, I had to go to a birthday party and a friend of mine wanted to take a look at my iphone for fun. When the turned on my phone, BAM! Instant doll pic.

Said person then proceeded to ask, "Who's this guy?" and refused to believe that it was a doll  Same with everyone else that saw it. I hadn't seen these people in months, so I had to explain to them about my hobby, etc. and they took it well. And then they proceeded to laugh about how honest I was since I could have said that it was a picture of my boyfriend and they would have believed it.

    15. I've mentioned my doll to some co-workers before and when I showed them a picture of him, (my phone wallpaper) I got a "HE is a doll?!" Apparently they always thought he was real. XD

    16. Oh this thread is so amusing, Hee.
I used to take my nearly two foot tall, skinny, medievally-dressed, bearded Soom boy out for pics, and inevitably some random neighbor would stare and holler, "Owmygawd, is that a BABY?"
      My two favorite responses:
"Wouldn't you feel like a horrible person if I said it was?"
Or, best answer, I clutch him to me, glare at the person and shout, "Yes, and he has a condition! People like you are horrible!"

...just because some people talk without thinking. *eevil grin*

    17. This only happened to me one time, but then I hardly take my crew out with me...ok I don't get out much either, but still. I had Makenshi with me once when my brother and I went to a mall after a doll meet. I just had him sitting in the crook of my arm, as I always hold my SD's, and he wasn't wrapped up or anything. But the owner of one of the stores (or manager, w/e) was sort of watching us as we browsed the shop. Eventually he came up and was like, 'Omg I thought that was a real child!' He looked amused, and not creeped out or anything so I explained what Makenshi was. :)

Funny thing was, later that same night, halfway across the mall, we found a cool Asian themed store, and the owner and her daughter recognized Makenshi for a doll and instantly wanted to know where they could get one too! :) It was a good night for talking about resin. haha

    18. Yes! I take the buss alot so when i go out with my SD i kind of craddle her in my arms on the buss so we dont get knocked around. She gets mistaken for my baby ALOT!

and since my dolls are the background for my phone and computer i get

"Oh is that your family? They look so sweet. Are you the oldest?" for my computer

and "OOOH whos the cutie?!" for my phone

    19. I went onto the Dream of Doll website during school one time (Web Publishing) and I pulled up a picture of DoI Luke Version 1. The girl next to me leaned over and said "Oh la la, he's hot! Who is he?"

I had a good chuckle over that, and the look on her face when I told her that he was a doll.

    20. Not in all seriousness, no... but some of the ladies at the Petaluma Arts Council did ask if my Iplehouse Akando was single; and there was at least one coo of "Ooh, there's my next boyfriend." :whee: Bijan is always a crowd-pleaser with older women, for some reason.

But in photos, yes, all the time! It's easy enough to fool the eye at a glance. Once had someone ask for a copy of Laika's tattoo design. ^^
