1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have your dolls been mistaken for real people?

Jan 17, 2009

    1. It made me chuckle the other day when I posted some pictures of my family on facebook and it wanted me to tag them.

Silly facebook they don't have their own pages XD

Though I think some people do make pages for their dolls so I guess it's not so weird. Just made me laugh.

    2. I once took a picture of my MSD girl's legs and shoes and submitted the picture to a photography magazine. It got in, and when I showed my (non BJD knowledgeable) friend the picture, she said, "Is that your cousin?" (my cousin has prosthetic legs.) So I guess my girl's legs have been mistaken for human...

    3. I have had my Sabik mistaken for my boyfriend in photos on my cel phone. And that's scarey since I am 52 and the sculpt is 27. Yep that's me the cougar (eyes rolling). Then explain its one of my dolls.

Another instance I was walking holding my Shiwoo in the crook of my arm. He was wearing a fuzzy winter coat which bulked him out a bit. An old woman across the street screams, "You're a terrible Mother". I laughed at her, she fled. This seems to happen a lot reading the previous posts. More little old ladies need eye exams.

    4. I've never had it happen in real life, but when I show my friends photos I have to sometimes remind them that it's a doll they're looking at.

    5. Not a BJD, but once I had a porcelain baby doll lying on the front seat of my car and this bloke ripped into me for being irresponsible. He was really embarrassed when I showed him it was a doll.

    6. While I was taking a photography class, I brought pictures of Kii in a few times. One night, the teacher didn't realize it was a doll until he noticed the light shining through his hand at one point. I thought that was pretty cool. :)

    7. yeah, my mom mistakes Nadeko for a baby all the time

    8. People tell me that the dolls in my photos look real, but they know they are dolls. The biggest surprise is the size of the dolls. When they see the photos, they think my dolls are much larger than they really are! :)

    9. My scenography proffessor at University thought that Hyorin, my Shushu, was human in a picture I took to show him the costume projects I've been working on during the summer. xD; and she's not even my most realistic sculpt or something like that~

    10. haha aww!
your mom is so cool!! :XD:

    11. My own girl has never been mistaken for a real person, however while I was browsing through pictures of BJDs I stopped to look at a custom SD of some sort, and my mom thought he was real! She even made me close the picture because he creeped her out because he looked "too real".

    12. I posted some pics of my doll on the other community and some of them thought it was a real person O_o

    13. Marc was mistaken for a teacup dog.... O.O but never a human. LOL
The lady thought I had a dog in the little pouch thingy that comes with Soom dolls. Marc is a Yosd...and his hair was sorta poofed and sticking out of the end 'cuz I wanted him to see where we were going (That's normal, right?)
and the cashier was all "You can't have your pet inside." XD

    14. I had one woman ask me if my doll was a baby. She told me she thought he was the tiniest baby...

    15. Nope, I have not had this experience.
However, I first found out about BJDs by mistaking a picture of doll with an incredibly realistic faceup and body-blushing for a real person.

    16. Aw man the second trigger to get me into BJDs was scanning DA and finding the prettiest girl, and then abruptly realizing from the comments it was a doll. A strike through my heart, that. I love mini things, and detail.

    17. My Dollshe boy has been mistaken more than once for a real person by people who are not familiar with the hobby, which I attribute to the great job the faceup artist did on his style. Those in the hobby instantly recognize the sculpt though.

    18. It is not my story, but one of my friend was once holding SD17 in her arms like how people treat babies and the doll was in the blanket as well. She was in the subway in Korea, and a few people tried to give her the seat because they thought she was holding onto her baby.

    19. Yes!! This doesn't happen often, but I've had a few instances where someone has thought my SD boys/girls to be children! It's a little odd, because I honestly don't know -how- they could be seen as babies or children, haha

    20. This happened today, at the gift shop in the Tuscany in Las Vegas.

We had just checked out of our room and we ordered a towncar, left our baggage up front and went to go buy our last souvenirs before heading for the airport. Well, I wasn't about to leave the two dolls I'd brought in the hands of the bellboys, so I was carrying them around the casino. When we entered the shop, I heard the two cashiers suddenly start whispering to each other. I knew they were whispering about my dolls--(Lysander was in my purse with his head and arms sticking out, Uriah was in my arms) but I wasn't expecting one of them to hesitantly ask "Is that a real baby?"
      Me: "Heavens no. o_o it's a doll."
The cashier lets out a huge sigh of relief with her eyes all wide. "I was about to call the police or something! 'This woman doesn't feed her children and she carries them around in a purse!'"
      Me: "Well, you're right, I don't feed them. ;) "

The woman then offered me a plastic bag to put Uriah in but I declined. xD
**it's worth noting that Uriah was wearing tight leather pants, snakeskin shoes and a wool peacoat... pretty snazzy duds for an emaciated baby.
