It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Have your dolls been mistaken for real people?

Jan 17, 2009

    1. I never carry my doll around, because paranoia is a very strong force. XD

However, on one occasion, I do have a picture of my doll on my cell phone as wallpaper, and while handling my cellphone, my friend said, "Who's that?"

I told him it was my doll and he said "Oh, man, I thought it was some really skinny guy!"

Hahaha, so what if he's skinny?!

It is a really strange occurrence, but maybe because we are around the dolls so much we don't know how it looks like to people who have no idea what BJD is and what they think of it. I think people typically assume that anything with a human face and a flesh colour is a child because that really IS the norm. You don't usually see grown people carrying around dolls, so I can see why they would assume it is a child first before a doll. XD

    2. never in person, but I did use Niko for a photography shoot once and everyone in my class thought that it was a real person modeling in my pictures :)

    3. Me and Raemanzu just had the baby thing happen the other day at Goodwill! This girl was like "Is that a baby?!" and we stand there kinda staring at her and glancing at each other (we're new to this...) and eventually Rae said "It's an asian ball jonted doll...." and the girl was like "...." like she didn't believe us O.o I was baffled that anyone would mistake him for a baby. I can understand "What's that" but honestly!

    4. No, but I have done quite a few double-takes with photos and the like posted on here and throughout the internet. Mine don't look so lifelike, but I think Ipplehouse and a few of the Volks look so real as to be confused with a breathing person.

    5. Only in one picture I have. Griffin looks like a real guy I was really pleased he got mistaken lol.

    6. Hubby and I took our daughter to town for some shopping and while we were out we had lunch at a nice restaurant. He carried our daughter and I carried my old BG Freya. the hostess and 3 waitresses asked me if Freya was a baby (even though by the time the last two asked, I had my doll sitting on the table and my daughter in a high chair).

I was surprised that seeing a doll and a real baby side by side that they would have made that mistake, but it was funny.

    7. I've only taken my DZ Yue, Jake out a few times.. but never had any other comments besides people calling him 'she'. I've had weird looks. The most I get is people adding Jake's myspace, and calling him hot.. :?

    8. Hihihi well, I made a picture of my doll, and you could only see the silhouette of my doll standing, I used the picture as a icon on messnger, and a friend ( who didnt know I had a doll) asked me ' hey is that you in the picture?' ...I said 'nope' then she answered ' then who is it?! O.o'
Eventually I told her it was a doll, hihi but that really made me laugh!

    9. Yes. And he wasn't even in a picture.
I was holding him on the arm of the chair, and Len, the guy that works at my school was like "Whoa, I thought he was real."
Then a couple minutes later, some girls were talking and whatnot, and I was over by the pool table. (which is about oh say 5 feet from where Knox sat) The both of them were like, What the- Geez I thought he was real!
Lol! Thats Knox for you, causing lots of trouble. But loving every damn minute of it.

    10. I've had someone send a pm on Elizabetha's (Soom Beryl) my space telling her she was to thin? Okaaaaaaaaaay, you could even see the joint in her arm.

    11. The first photograph of a BJD I saw on deviantART looked so realistic unlike all the other dolls I've ever known--so when I realized I was looking at a doll I knew I had to have one.

Little did I know then that the price would be trying to kill me! *sobs and tosses a penny she just found into her "Doll Fund"* I can't wait to get one, and have some of my friends be just as floored as I first was.

Here job... Here jobbie job...! *kicks Want Ads* This is going to take forever.

    12. Not in person (Though all the stories of them being mistaken for babies crack me up.). But a friend made me a keychain using a picture of Didi on it and I hooked it to my purse. While I was picking up my paycheck, my boss asked if he was my boyfriend. LOL

    13. Hi! I've been surfin' DoA and have seen some people say that their dolls have been mistaken for babies!? :?

I for one find this amusing! So if you have any stories about your resin kids being mistaken as live children and your WTF moments with the accuser, please share! :)

    14. One moment I'm in line cuddling my SD, next moment I'm putting him under my arm and ordering my lunch while the people behind the counter have a freak out. The same doll had an enouncer with a toddler who offered to share his snack. I've discovered babies react to a large mini or an SD if it has realistic looking eyes and think it's another baby :)

Once I was carrying a 70 and someone told me I had to feed my baby before they realized it was a doll.

    15. My oldest daughter took her Bobobie Weylin out with her to the store people kept looking at her carrying him around and someone asked to see him and told her she sorry for staring she thought she was holding a real baby at first.

    16. Haha, this is hilarious. I don't understand how anyone could mistake a doll for a real baby or human when they see them in person! Some people are just nut-so! XD

    17. Someone was walking behind my friend and I and freaked because they thought her doll was a really REALLY small baby. It was a 60cm @_@ They kept trying to peek over her shoulder to see the "kid". Twas awkward.

    18. I once gave my mother a picture of Sanyu's back as a present... and she asked who modeled for me for such a picture. (I had strategically cropped out the joints. XD) And I told her that it was Sanyu! She looked at me really funny and was in disbelief for a moment, like 'Really? No way!' XD I was so hysterically excited because, even though she'd seen Sanyu before, she was still mistaken for human. It makes me happy when that happens!

And I talk about Sanyu by name so much, I'm surprised no one has listened into my conversations in public and flipped out yet. "Yeah... so I decided to bring Sanyu out of the closet today..." / "And then what you do is open up the back of her head and remove the eyes. THEN you take the head off..." / "I should probably get a bed for Sanyu..." yeah...

    19. The only time I think my dolls have ever been mistaken for real people is in their photographs. o_o;

    20. My husband and I were walking through a German Christmas market, and he was holding my doll in the crook of his arm while I was getting my camera adjusted. She was wearing a big frilly pink fer, and I guess from a distance it looked like he was holding a baby because the fer was so large and covered her feet. An old lady came up beside him and smiled, and when she looked down, she jumped! Then she looked at my husband in horror and waddled off quickly XD I kinda felt bad for giving her such a start.
