Have your dolls been mistaken for real people?

Jan 17, 2009

    1. My mom thought a picture of one was a real man! She almost didn't believe me when I told her it was a doll!

    2. Hehehe, I was once in the store of the RV park I was at... I was carrying Bitter in my arms (She's an MSD) and a lady turned around, and nearly jumped out of her skin. She said "Oh my goodness! I thought that was a tiny baby you were carrying!!"
Yes... A tiny tiny skinny baby with... Bright pink hair .___.

I'd love to take one of those Dollmore 80cm Lusions in public... and have her in clothes that cover up her joints or something, and see what people think XD Because the first time I saw one in a picture, the owner had her in clothes that covered up all her joints and my first thought was "HOLY CRAP she looks like a real little girl!!"

    3. I've only had a doll mistaken as a human in photos, but when I brought one of my dolls into a Home Depot once for measurements in building a doll house, one of the workers came running up to me only to step back partially mortified. At my confusion she told me she thought I was holding a chihuahua and she wanted to see it. She apologized and left. I felt kinda bad for her.

    4. I took a picture of one of my boy's head and had it on my laptop as the wall paper. When my boyfriend went to use my laptop he glared at it and asked me who it was lol.

    5. I've had a woman coming up to me saying "gosh, I really thought that was a baby o_O" when I carried my doll in my arms on the way home from school xD

Also, when I show people some pictures I've taken of him, and they don't know that it's him/a doll, they always think it's one of the girly jrockers I'm a fan of and don't believe me when I say it's a doll :3
Someone on msn has also mistaken my doll for me or another real person x3

    6. My favourite gallery pics (besides when something is looking inhuman / fantasy style) is when a doll looks real.
I have used pictures of dolls as character pictures for an RPG I run and the players thought they were actually human models.

    7. Oh wau, I wish I had so supporting family and friends. But no. They think I m crazy. My husband hates my dolls. And I think sometimes he hates me. When I said "It would be gr8 for Christoper" He was like "Oh you need to grow up already."

      :-(

    8. I was at the mall once and was doing a photoshoot with my oldest doll, and this woman did a major double take then TUGGED on her husband's shirt and was like: "I thought that thing was a BABY! I thought it was a freaking baby!!!"

      It was rather comical. xD

    9. I use a picture of my girl on Facebook and apparently some people thought she was me! Even tho she had white skin and yellow eyes. They chalked it up to contacts. I wish I looked that pretty.

    10. Rei has his own facebook, and once a girl started hitting on him XD Of course, I replied back as him...I think she noticed his wonky wrists after a bit though.

    11. ROFL So funny

    12. Not really "my" doll... but I was browsing the Dollmore site at school, when I looked at some SD sized hancuffs, with a SD sized doll wearing them.

A friend thought I was looking at a fetish website OTL||

    13. once when I was in the store, I had one of my SD dolls with me, and the way I was carrying him you couldn't see his face very well and the lady behind the counter hadn't seen the doll joints at first and she looked shocked and rather repulsed because she thought that my SD was an actual baby and her first thought was something alone the lines of "how can a baby that small still be alive?!"

    14. You know, I've been noticing this too, and I've only had my boy for about six months.
I was in jewel-osco and my friend and I had our dolls in the cart.

I child pointed and said 'Look mommy a baby a baby!!"
She was super excited(and she was still a baby herself!)

      Then her mom goes:
      "Yes honey it's a baby!"

Another woman in the store asked
if our boys were children and if we got them there.

Mind you, my friend has a DOD Ducan
which is like, ghostly pale and I have a
      RingDoll Pan, who's blond sooo.lol

    15. Only just once in real life when I was walking down a street with one.

      A lady walked past me and did a double take. She thought I had a real, super malnourished baby in my arms. O.o;;;
She was very angry until she realized it was a doll.

That's a sign of a good person though, stopping to yell at someone if she thought it was a real kid. No sarcasm intended. ^^

    16. I've had many mistake Lesley for a baby at first. I kinda understand it with him being an SD.. but I'd had someone question at first if my AOD Ni Ni, (about yosd sized) was a too small baby.. that made me go o.O myself.. xP

    17. I posted Nayumi's pic on my FB just to show my friends. One of my co-workers approached me the next day and she said she thought it was someone she knew! And she was a bit scared(?) because she looks like a real person :). Another was when we are out for shopping, I saw a lady looking at me, then she approached as and said, "I thought that was baby...." LoL She then asked where I bought her and how much she cost...XD

    18. I had a guy come up to me and say "Is that your baby?" I turned the doll so he could actually see him and I said "Well, Yes, he is"

He IS my baby <3 In a special way ^^

    19. A shop keeper once thought my Dalarion (CP Count Verre Breakaway) was a baby. That was somewhat baffling to me, because he had his long grey wig on, and his aristocrat clothes, and he most definitely was not looking like a chubby baby but a miniature adult  She, too, was puzzled when she realised it was not a baby, she had trouble comprehending how she could have mistaken him for a baby. One of those "it's not the eyes that see, but the brain" - even though Dalarion looked nothing like a baby, her brains decided that it must be a baby, because that is what women around 25 usually carry on their lap

    20. Well, this story relates to an off-topic doll, but it's still pretty funny.

I was doing a swap on another forum, and my partner addressed the package to my doll, c/o me. However, my dorm mailroom held it under her name, instead of mine! It took me forever to pick it up, because when they scanned my ID it wouldn't show up. When I finally asked if they had one under her name, they found it, and then I had to explain to them that she was a doll. The girl at the mailroom gave me the weirdest look.

The best part, though, is that she's a character doll, so the mailroom was holding a package under the name Kaylee Frye! I guess none of them were Firefly fans...
