1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have your dolls been mistaken for real people?

Jan 17, 2009

    1. A friend of mine saw a picture of Matthew (my yeon ho) and proceeded to ask me questions, even when i told him Matthew was a doll, he wanted to know who he was why i was friends with a 23 year old (Matthew is 23 Lol) I repeated that he was a doll like five times before he actually got it. It was sorta awkward.

    2. Someone though the doll was me on webcam when it was sitting on my chair with the cam close XD haha

    3. I showed this image of Kuromi to some colleagues at work (on my camera's 3" display, which explains a bit):

And one fellow went: "Who is she?! Come on, you've got to tell me who she is!"

I just wish I'd come up with the idea to reply "oh forget it, she's much too hard for you" then, instead of a month later...

    4. Maybe they thought you meant doll as in cute! ;)

    5. Before I got a carrier, I once took my boy on the train with me to visit a friend. There was a lady and her little daughter who approached me and said that they thought I was carrying baby until they saw his face. XD They were nice about it. Can't say the same for others, which is why I'm glad I have a violin case now to transport my dolls. No one looks twice at those!

    6. I have never had this happen to my doll where people thing he looks real
One thing that makes me lol low is once i had a photo take of me and I put it up on my dev page and some commented saying what a lovely doll. lol XD photo is gone now but i still lol when seeing that photo. :3

    7. A couple times when i take pictures and post them on fb people who just glance think mine are real people, especially Nemo, since she has a bit more realistic face

    8. I don't get how people think the more mature SDs look like babies. I had a woman in Walmart mistake my Rivven for a baby. -_-' Really lady? He's a tan, amber-eyed wolf boy. >.<

    9. Haha, sometimes my friend and I talk about Ginger and Helen and people will inquire about them. I love the face they make when I say "Oh, they're just my dolls". I don't bring my girls out in public with me so I haven't had anyone think they were "babies" outside the home.

    10. Plenty have mistaken some of the photos of my boys to be real humans, that is until they saw a bit of a ball-joint or other references to that they're weren't humans at all.

    11. When I showed my brother some pictures of the doll I'm planning to buy, he asked: "Who's there?", and my mom: "Whose child?".

    12. LOL! Never had anything quite that spectacular, but I did have a comment on a pic of my Daiyu on DA where someone said they thought it was a real person (and on a couple of my friend's doll I did a shoot with) until they read in my artist's comments it was a bjd XD

    13. At my old company we'd talk to one another via MSN since all the members of our team were located in different rooms in the same building. For a while I had a close-up picture of Sharakti (my School A) as my icon and one of my co-workers commented on it during our next MSN conversation with "is that a picture of you? Pretty!" Given that he worked in the next room to me and saw me in person at least twice every day, I didn't let him live that one down for a long time!!

    14. not really, but no one has seen her yet

    15. I had a veeeeerrry sexy(pardon the term) doll once but he looked like my co-worker so much that I just ended up selling it. :?

I don't know why but it bothers the heck out of me when I have a doll that looks like someone I know. Probably just as much that it might disturb the person as much as it disturbs me. Maybe that's why I tend to stick to stylized dolls these days lol.

    16. That's hilarious!!

I got a few oohs once when I showed friends website pictures, but after they realize they're dolls, they get put off. I know, so sad.

    17. I have a few pictures of Walter laying around that have raised a brow or two before I've been asked who is this person? -chuckles-

    18. I don't usually talks much with my mum about my dolls so there isn't much space to this conversations, but once a friend confused a picture of one of my dolls with a cosplayer...:sweat

    19. My dad saw me looking at a picture of the Chalco I'm buying and asked "who's he? boyfriend" and i was like "LMFAO, uhhh, i dont think there's a man alive as handsome as him" and my dad just looked at me bewildered

    20. Technically not my doll, at least he wasn't at the time. But when I was looking at the promo pics of Iplehouse Special Edition Kamau (Light Brown/Tan skin) my mother in law looked over my shoulder and went "He looks real!" and I went "Yeah, cool huh?" She was a little freaked out in all honesty, she still looks at those pics or pics of my Kamau who's home now and thinks he's real. He's the one doll she doesn't see much of right now.

And then again, when I showed those pics to my mother, she looked at him and went "Wow! He looks so real," and I grinned and nodded. Then I showed her the RealSkin Kamau I want to one day get and she was all "Oooooh! I like him! He looks real too! Shame he's not!"

I laughed so hard I burst a blood vessel I swear. My mother is just... There are no words to describe her actually. lol But yeah my Kamau even without his face up has made people ask if he's real when they see photo's of him a few times. I think with his black and yellow eyes, it's too hard to actually mistake him for real in person, but maybe once I do his face up and scars that might change. Who knows. It's still totally fun to me to have someone think he's real. I love it. XD
