1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Head hunting & Head storage

Nov 4, 2017

    1. Looks great ! Will do this too

    2. The Christmas ornament box is genius. I'll have to keep an eye out for them later in the year.

My heads are in a semi-deep tote bin. It's deep enough to use head-purchase boxes and other shorter containers to separate heads. And since after 13 years in the hobby, I have about 300 square miles of bubblewrap, everybody gets made-to-order cushioning!

    3. I'd never even considered this before (never ended up with a floating head, though that may change soon!) but since I just started doing faceup commissions I've been pondering this same question. For the time being I have a dedicated drawer with some cardboard from a cereal box to keep things separate and some old doll pillows and lots of bubble wrap to keep them from getting jostled, but I don't quite have the room space to keep that drawer.

The ornament box idea is absolutely brilliant, I'll have to try to snag one of those. For extra eyes, hands and feet I've been using bead storage boxes on the larger side, and for my wigs (all hardcap) I've just taken to stuffing leftover brushed yarn fluff into a little plastic bag to make a little shape-holding pillow. If I can think of anything that'd be handy for storing all those extra bits in one place I'll come back here to share it! I want to look into those really big tackle boxes, or maybe some portable sewing supply boxes!

Edit: Something like this may be useful if you've got more than just heads floating around! They have a lot of space at the bottom, at least the ones I've seen in person have, it could be pretty easily adapted to a cozy little head holder. The top shelf there doesn't fold all the way down into the bottom compartment, either, so they won't get crushed!

    4. I only have a few floating heads, and none of them were part of a set, so I've just been going between the boxes they came in and some spare tupperware containers.

I am planning to get some busts though - I was looking at Luts, but does anyone have any etsy recommendations? Especially in custom sizes, I'm having trouble finding good female EID-sized busts.

    5. I only have one floating head and I keep her in a drawer for now. I'm not big on keeping floating heads around (I like my dolls to be complete, I already have a body ordered for my floating head), but if I were to have a bunch... I really like the box file organizers that I've seen in here! The definitely seems like a great way to keep them safe.

    6. This is exactly what I was going to recommend. If you’re afraid of using the plastic containers for whatever reason, they also make these out of sturdy cardboard sometimes as well!

    7. I own six DIM Minimee floating heads, and they all have face ups, lashes and eyes, so I keep them nestled in bubble wrap inside the clear plastic boxes DIM sent them in (with the exception of one I got second hand and didn't come with the box anymore). I place four at a time, inside a brown shipper cardboard box, inside my closet. I keep my two SoulDoll floating heads inside an SD shipper, also nestled in bubble wrap. I was interested in looking for the boxes DIM used for their MNM, to keep my SD ones as well but I kind of lost interested a while ago.

I don't mind the way I currently have my floating heads stored too much, but I would like a way to store all eight together. One that didn't take up too much room but I can still store them without face protectors so their lashes remain intact. I don't have any plans to get busts for any of them for display (I like to keep my resin stored in darkness), nor bodies so I do need a decent storage option preferably one that takes no more room than what I already have. I don't have any better solutions right now however, so I'll keep them as they are until I figure out a neater option; all of my floating heads are large melons, except for the two SoulDoll ones. (:

    8. I have a bookcase where I currently display my anime figures. Underneath it there are two shelves behind a door. I keep all of my BJD related stuff in there, especially anything resin to prevent yellowing as much as possible because minimal light gets in there.

    9. This is a little off topic, but what is that lovely skeleton looking head on the lefthand side?

    10. At the moment, I store most of my bjd heads in really useful boxes, the bjd boxes are using a lot of space and I will have to reorganize and protect everything before moving.
I plan on making some pouches and mitts with quilted fabric to protect the heads and the hands/feet of my dolls.
I have only kept three sd bodies, and I have bought quite a few bust stands considering the space sd bodies and boxes take.

    11. I'm newer to BJD resin aging. All of my dolls are new so I haven't experienced that yet. When storing heads, do you find that they still yellow even in enclosed boxes and such?

    12. It's a Angel of Dream 1/4 skull head! :)

    13. ^ This box file idea is really cool! I may have to try something similar. Right now, I keep all of my floating heads in a drawer, along with my doll clothes.

    14. I use these plastic boxes from „smart store“:
Sorry, mobile can only post the Flickr link:
      Headbox

On the pic are two boxes next to each other.

I love that each head has it‘s own, removable compartment. I put a bit of padding in each compartment and a layer of foam or bubblewrap on top when I put the lid on, just in case. The lid of the box is held by two clips and the box is sturdy. As the plastic is transparent I keep the box inside a cupboard.
