It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Horses for larger dolls

Sep 12, 2006

    1. Wonderful comparison photos! I have 3 Battat at the moment that I need to clean up for my dolls. Do mind telling me what ebay store on the fur horse you show in the first photo. Wow the my twinn horse is gorgeous as well how much bigger are they than the Battat?

    2. Okay, horses for bigger dolls are hard to find.

Here are some awesome, but also extensively expensive horses:

      http://www.rockinghorsedesign.com/giovanni.htm

These are antique and antique-like rocking horses. Collectors' items, just like BJDs. I would suggest them if you are looking for a slightly more baroque-type to mount your knight or for the sophisticated classic equestrian/equestrienne.

However, I chose a slightly less expensive, but also more unrealistic option. My daughter grew out of her plush rocking horse. Now Amadeus has to go to the junkyard, but I preferred him as a mount for my BJDs.

My daughter thought a short mane would be nicer, so I received him with a very short (aka non-existent) mane, and some strange golden-blue pinto pattern:

(Sorry for the off-topic doll, but this rides him to demonstrate how the horsy looks like with a 60 cm-guy on him).

And here he is right after carnival, after I cut up a human wig and gave him a thorough wash. Now he has hair worthy of a Lusitano, and his coat is glowing in a nice golden shade:

I will make him some nice, versatile Portuguese tack. I think with a saddle, he will work okay even for my 65-cm guy soon to arrive. I can take pics as soon as he has arrived?

    3. @PamSD: Nahar is also really nice. I think he can work with EIDs as an Arab-pony-cross.

But wasn't there an even bigger horse but the MyTwinn steed? Or is my memory failing here?

I would love to get a carousel-horse. But even unrestored, the purchasing costs are insane.

    4. I need to take pics of my Leeds plush horse I got from the UK. He's a bit bigger than a Battat horse, but still just a big pony for my SD13+ sized gang. Still, Kevya is 60 cm so he's kind of claimed this pony as his, because he's the shortest and he likes animals best. There are some mods I want to do to it to make it more realistic, like replacing the feathery mane and tail with wefted hair, and I am making some culture appropriate tack for Kevya to put on it. He's from a medieval fantasy world, and belongs to one of several cultures I've created and stuck in it. I know his people just use a hackamore sort of bridle, no bit, but I'm not sure if they have stirrups- Probably, though. I don't think their saddles are much more than a pad type thing... *goes off to research more stuff*

Ooh, in my area there's this guy selling these lawn ornament type sculptures, made of fiberglass or something painted up like bronze, and some of the small horses might be the right size for an EID- TOTALLY worth the money and space taken if I can find the guy and snag one!

Rosslyn, I'd love to see this guy's horse if you can find him. Also would be interested in contacting him about doing a fiberglass mold of one of my horses. Here's a couple pics of some recent painted Nahars. A bronze one for my mother...

    6. Pam, great comparison photos! I'm bookmarking it :))

    7. Wow great comparisons Pam! Ditto, bookmarking for future reference.

I'm a little (a lot) miffed that the mods deleted a bunch of mine and Rosslyn's posts here; just because the Battat models are more "suited" to MSDs does NOT make them off topic in this thread--if humans IRL ride "pony" sized horses, how come our dolls can't? Battat are the most common and easiest to get your hands on, so I'm making the best of what I can get! In fact...now I have...*counts*... FIVE Battat models for my SDs. Sure, it looks a little awkward but with a creative camera angle and a little work, you can get some really cool shots!

      /end rant...

Anyway, the horse I ride at home most is a Tennessee walker gelding that I can throw my arm over his back and scratch his belly on the other side. XD He's a little guy, but his head carriage is so high that when you're on his back (and in photos) he doesn't look little at all! That's what I was shooting for with the Lusitano Battat model, it's got a very pretty sculpt that (in my opinion) works great with my SD guys.

Huff. Sorry to rant here, but I was pretty upset. >.< Horses are one of the most important things in my life. Kinda silly, but it's carrying over to my doll hobby too...

Also, my taller (but still 60cm) SD boy needs a Prancer. :( I wish My Twinn still carried them. They're NEVER on eBay. Sob...

    8. So is My Twinn's other sculpt, the static standing pose, shorter, or is there just a preference for the walking pose?

    9. My earlier posts got deleted as well because I said something about that I was going to post comparison photos of my MSDs on the Battat horses I have. I guess its understandable since it says Horses for Large Dolls. I'm thinking maybe of starting a MSD horse thread or even a Smaller dolls horse thread. If I have time though I'd like to see how my 50cm Obitsu or 50cm BBB boy looks on one of my Battat horses. I'll post pics to this thread.

    10. Yeah, Kitty blue please post them here when you have time! We can show the mods that the Battat models work for SDs. Also, since 50cm is considered SD(?) that would make them relevent in the thread again. Even though in my opinion they already were. Huff.

Bumping to revive this thread again! I contacted My Twinn asking if I could order a Prancer model by asking, waiting to hear back now. In the meantime I'm scavenging thrift shops for old Halloween wigs to rip apart for manes and tails for my current three WIP Battat models. I *also* have an OT Breyer horse model that is getting turned into a fairy horse for my tinies. :) So many prjects!

    11. I owe this thread some pics of the Leeds horse I customized to be a pony for my SD Kevya.

    12. Leeds horse? Oh I'd love to see! :D

    13. Just remembered I still need to take those photos of my 50cm girl and boy on the Battat horses, totally forgot about this thread..lol. I currently have 3 now that I also need to clean up a bit and possibly repaint. Working on my 4th for my SD girl.

    14. Weeeell I heard back from MT and they very vaguely directed me over to the other quarter horse model, which yeah I do want eventually but it didn't answer my question. D: They just said keep checking back because new products are added every day? Kinda makes me wonder if it was an automated response. Ah well...

    15. I even offered to buy the mold if they aren't planning on producing them anymore...I think something happened to the mold when they changed manufactures.....then when they sold out on the site that was it...no more prancers.

I despise the other horse...his back legs are deformed.

    16. Baaah that's a load of malarky. :P You'd think they'd make another one, especially since they sell the sleigh and harness set, and let's be honest, who wants a standing horse in front of their sleigh. *deadpan*

Yeah I was looking at that. It would be a good draft horse though, I was thinking of putting hair around the legs to make it look like feathers.

    17. Ugh why do I keep finding Battat models that I don't have..? XD Ebay is so bad for me. Oh well, at least all of my dolls will have their own horse. You never know when a random hunt show might pop up. ;)

    18. was just looking through the threads and found this one!
the battat horses are lovely, i have one and its so elegant with my dolls!
i love all the photos on this thread and i really love your Nahar pamsd

    19. lol...yes I keep looking as well. on my4th and still looking for that perfect one..lol
