1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How 'alive' do you treat your doll?

Aug 1, 2007

    1. I would talk to my dolls really often.I do talk to myself when i have problems to find answers, and sometimes i talk to my cat or a tedy bear.
So i guess i will probably talk a lot with Yoru and Alec xD(nos as much with Sugar, unless for girl-talks xD)

i would REALLY freak out if they start to answer O_o
i would run away like a crazy woman /o_

    2. For those of you who know the Wallflower manga, I think episode 20 (you can find it on Veoh.com) really sums up what a lot of owners feel for their doll, and how outside people don't understand.

      Episode
In the event that the link above doesn't work, just search Veoh.com for Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge episode 20.

    3. i'll probably talk to them. i talk to action figures and video game characters(while i'm playing "omg! get out of the way!!") already so an object as big as a bjd will probably even worse for me talking to it XD i won't ask questions or have intellectual questions but i will say sorry if i drop em or something lol

    4. I was just carrying one of my boys from his S-hook with a pair of forceps from room to room, so I guess the answer is I kind of exercise tough love. I'm sure he didn't appreciate it, but it was for his own good XD

    5. Basically this sums up all :)

    6. I think i talk to them very often in my thoughts .. but not loud .. Oo ..
Ok, i've to say i don't know if i talk loud to them .. maybe i do .. XD
It's not that i belive they are alive .. it's more a reflex .. i'm also talking to my pc at work *is an it-specialist* .. ^^ so yeah .. (the normal .. why wont you do what i want, etc. talking) ..
.. but i think they are more then only a thing .. i treat them very well and i give them the love they deserve .. ^.^

    7. I do that sort of thing all the time.

And I talk to all my dolls (BJD's, Porcelain, vinyl, rag etc.) and bears and soft toys, and the cat, and my sewing machines and the costumes I make.

      But perhaps I just talk too much...{g}

    8. Oh, I babble at my boys all the time. >__>;; I also talk about them to other people as if they're real, so I tend to confuse people quite a lot. xD
I try not to, but I always end up feeling that they have feelings and whatnot.. I missed Ollie's "birthday" and almost cried because I thought he would be so upset. ._. -weird-

    9. i dont have my doll yet, but i already treat him like a normal(?) person

    10. I definetly talk to my girl, though not entire conversations. More like, I'm designing a dress for her, I try things on and say things like "Does this colour suit you? Is this too much heart-theme decorations for you?". Or when I was naming her I'd cradle her in my arms and ask "Are you a ____? Or a ___?" Also when I accidentally pose her in something that looks uncomfortable I say sorry.

I'm not one of those people that think their doll is alive, I view her as an inanimate object, just my most precious one. I curse at my hair and objects in my house that annoy me so I guess I'm one of those people that just talk to inanimate objects. *is weird*

    11. Yep! That's me in a nutshell.
But I like talking, so I'm gonna go on XD

It's hard for me to refer to them as 'my doll' or 'it' when I'm talking to other people. It's always 'he' or 'they/them' or other terms normally attributed to living beings. I don't talk to them any more than I do my pets (...which is a lot :sweat ). I know they're not capable of understanding (though sometimes I think my cat does, she's weird) and I know they don't have needs, though I will talk about them as if they could (ex: I told one of my dollie collecting friends that Erebos wasn't speaking to me until I took him out of the dress I had put him in). I can't help it, they're the most realistic, non-living thing I've ever owned.
As for spirit I do believe that there is some level of one in anything hand-made that has features relative to that of a living creature. If I'm making a stuffed animal or working with all natrual materials (I make teas and tinctures) I always put love and care into them and sometimes, depending on what I'm working on, finish it with a blessing.
While I doubt that these companies go as far as I do there has to be some level of care that goes into these dolls, if they didn't they wouldn't be so beautful and leave the impacts they do on some people's lives.
And I'm gonna stop talking before I go on a tangent! XD

    12. I talk to my dolls, not as in having long conversations but like when I'm dressing them for example and going through their clothes I'll be like "Do you want to wear this?". I think it all comes down to pretending and just having fun. I know they are inanimate objects and that they aren't really alive, I just like to pretend that they are. I guess it's something I just carried over from childhood, as a kid I always saw my dolls as more precious and special rather than just another object.

    13. I treat my doll like a little sister. I talk to her, dress her up. She's my babe! :)

    14. I'm totally a nutter and speak/treat my doll as a part of my family 8D And of course I refer to him as any other person when talking to others :l

    15. I've always talked w. my dolls. Mentally though, not out loud...

    16. Lol I've always felt all things had some sort of a soul, (Maybe because I get really attatched to things) But I treat them like family. Though it's mainly apologizing for being clumsy. I can't count how many times a day I run into that door frame >.<

    17. I'd say, i don't really put much 'life' on to them, but i'im kinda superstitious and believe in some stuff people just swat a hand at. So I talk to them, nothing like in depth conversations but i'll walk in my room and be like 'SUP MACMAC!?" or if i'm sewing and they're being diffucult I'l yell at them. LOL and if something goes missing I always blame them because there's a part of me that thinks spirits inhabit them sometimes. Not all the time, but like i know i'm wrong...but there's still something about there eyes that sometimes makes my skin crawl

    18. What a hoot it was to click on this thread immediately after picking up Ruby, looking at her and saying "Allright, Madame! Off with your pants!" (she's getting a new body...)

Hey I talk to things all the time. My cat actually does talk back to me - not in English, of course, but she has quite a repertoire of "words" and makes herself quite clear. I've been known to yell at the TV. (Yeah! Right! like the TV is going to answer!)

I think we're all anchored enough in the here and now to know that these are hunks of resin. But the personalities and love we give them reflects back.

On the other hand, having had the really quite bizarre experience of having a doll tell me his name in no uncertain terms, I'm not entirely convinced that they're not harboring a little bit of the great well of souls :) There are stranger things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio...

    19. When I bought Ronin from a lovely girl she emailed me and said something along the lines of " I told him he will be happy in his new home" when she posted him. My husband read the email and thinks that we are all crazy because we talk to our dolls, But he still loves me no matter how much I talk to them!
As long as you dont expect them to talk back to you....

    20. This subject reminds me of Sophie's gift from the book Howl's Moving Castle. In the book, Sophie would speak conversationally to inanimate objects just as all of you do...to hats she was making, or an outfit she was patching together. And whatever she spoke with came to life in a way, and took on the personality she spoke into it. It was subtle enough that she didn't realize it, but there was magic in it.

I think there may be a bit of that magic in all of us. ;)
