1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How 'alive' do you treat your doll?

Aug 1, 2007

    1. I don't own my own doll yet, but I do have Nircotehn's Hitoshi (DZ Yuu) and Moony's Hikaru (For the life of me, I can't remember...) over for a visit (I'm making doll sized jewelry, and needed size references/models), and I find that I talk to them as if they were kids. Not small children, mind you, but like if they were 12 or 13 year olds. My fiance has been looking at me strangely this whole time for doing it. XD

    2. Hum, I mostly treat Rio like a member of my family actually...I've always been one to give inanimate things a name and since Rio is even more human-like than any other inanimate thing I actually found myself talking to him pretty often. The usual stuff like "Goodnight" or "How are you" kinda moved into me basically rambling about my University, my exams and any other random stuff...it may sound stupid but he listens to me and it's kinda comforting XD (my parents often are too busy to listen or not-interested in fandom-ramblings so...)
I don't really bring him with me all the time though, just the occasional movie watching in the living room or chatting on the pc only...since my cats (and I've 3 of them) are all or the crazy sort, I wouldn't want something bad to happen XD (like getting his wig eaten or something)

    3. Well, to add to my previous post and include my husband in this bit of insanity - we anthropomorphize like mad things in our house. For example on Sunday before we went to out to the mall to get Liri, my newest girl some new clothes:
"Michael, she won't get in the bag."
"Did you tell her we were getting her new clothes?"
"Ooops, no I didn't think of that."
"Liri, you have to get in there so we can get you new clothes... Oh, now she fits. We're ready to go, are you?"
I'm sure if anyone else heard/saw that they would think we were mad as a bucket of soapy frogs, but it has proven time and again that talking to them does make a difference. :)

    4. Gishallos, you make me giggle, because it's so true. My friend Zirconmermaid and I are in the bucket covered with soap right beside you!

I've been a bit of an animist since early childhood--reading "The Velveteen Rabbit" certainly didn't help!--and I've been a Neopagan for, good grief, close to 25 years. So I have no doubt supposedly inanimate objects can possess or be infused with spirit, and that spirits can inhabit objects. I don't treat my dolls as if they were flesh and blood, that'd be silly, but I do treat them with respect as members of my household and speak to them and interact with them with the assumption they have perception of some kind. Not only do they respond, but others can discern the same expressions or responses as I do, so I'm fairly sure I'm not completely barking mad. Even if I was, it's a much more pleasant madness than the rage so many people in my neighborhood seem to inhabit constantly.

    5. I talk to him like I do to normal people. It's not as strange as it sounds, I think, since I actually talk to myself all the time and this is just one way of not having to talk to myself alone.
.. okay, that sounds even stranger. :sweat

In general, I treat him as my child, which means that I'm extremely careful when handling him and I always tell him what I'm going to do etc. He's very human to me, but I do aknowledge he's still a doll. But sometimes ignorance is bliss, you know.

    6. my parents have started emailing my dolls >.>.....

    7. If I have something I want to tell someone or talk to them about and no one's around I turn to my dolls. Especially if I have a secret and I don't want to tell someone who'll share it but I don't want to be the only one knowing.

(And I know you from Gaia!)

    8. I talk to mine in my head. He and I have silent conversations. xD If somebody's in pieces, I treat them as inanimate objects because they're not...special? lifelike? if they're in pieces. I'm mean to them alot of the time. Then again, one of them is mean back. (Literally bites; drawn blood two or three times!)

But when it comes to treating them as truly alive, I don't. I let them sit there for days without even thinking about them. They don't go everywhere with me. Occasional trips to the mall, park, or craft store are all they get aside from meets.

    9. I wonder how safe it is to answer this question and sound sane....

I talked to Lux, cried to her. Hugged her and was and is willing to bathe with her. This is coming from a girl who kisses her cats ad replies to their "meows"

      *failedhorriblyatsoundingsane*

    10. I talk to my doll when I'm alone. I treat her with care. However, I don't exactly think I treat her as a human.

    11. Our conversations are usually more mental, but I do speak to Ivy out loud on occasion. I treat her like a person because I feel like such a sweet, beautiful and forgiving thing deserves my love, kindness and respect. Then again, I've never had an object that I've purposely "mistreated". (Except for sometimes when I throw my cell phone in anger....XD)

I would like to believe that there is something animate about Ivy, that she understands and is aware of me somehow. Even if it is only present because of our will...I think it would be neat. I'm all for not ruling out anything that can't be proven and not disregarding the things I don't understand. Not understanding something completely makes it especially beautiful.

Perhaps believing she is a type of person is enough to say she is one.

      Update:

I actually just made a little personality profile for Ivy. I've been having a hard time finding her "voice", and making a little profile for her has actually helped. I even did the Jung personality test for her ^_^ (She's INFJ, if you were wondering.)

    12. Don't feel crazy. I also kiss and talk to my cats. :)

    13. Nah I don't really do it unless I'm around other people and then it's only for fun x3
      Dunno why ^^

    14. I only talk to them when I get frustrated with them for not standing, other then that I don't talking to them.

    15. I don't have my doll yet either, but I treat pretty much any of my stuffed animals as if they're listening to me xD it helps me stay stress-less xD I already treat Alden(my doll) like he is alive and I don't even have him yet xD

    16. I tend to name inanimate objects and talk to them, so I'm sure once I get my doll, she'll be rather "alive" to me, and I'll treat her like my baby. xD

    17. I have an old old habit of talking to my inanimate stuff. I name things, it's a habit. My computer, my car.... Its just a habit. So my dolls definitely get babbled too. When I'm driving, when I'm doing stuff and they're sitting in their chair in the living room.... When I'm not doing anything.... I just do it. I have always talked to stuff. Heck, I talk to my dog, and she doesn't understand me either! XD

    18. I don't treat them like they're alive. They'll get yelled at when they're being difficult (usually floppy), and I'll take them outside occasionally. Otherwise they just sit there. :)

    19. Very alive. -nods-

I talk to them in my bedroom or when with friends who believe dolls have souls.

My father doesn't like it very much when I talk to my dolls. My mum just think of them as my worry dolls.

    20. oAo omg at last! <3 so many people share my sentiment TwT My boy and girl are my babies! I wouldn't treat them any less than i would a child because they ARE just that! My children <3
