It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How Big is Too Big?

Apr 8, 2008

    1. How you know your dolls are too big:

      1. When you have devoted your entire room to them...and you now sleep on the couch

      2. They won't fit through the door

      3. You can't lift them

      4. You burn 500 calories an hour moving them for photoshoots...XD

      Basically, I think it's too big when you can't physically handle the upkeep of it! lol! ^_^

    2. I had a very odd thought of making a 1/1 scale BJD. Not for reproduction purposes, but like... something to display in a gallery or something like that. D: If I had the funds to spend on supplies and a place to work, I'd probably do it. XD; But omg. .__. That's not something I'd take to a con or a meet, or even store anywhere in my house. XD;

      In all seriousness, I have my 65 cm boy now. I can honestly say that anything much bigger than him would be too much for me to handle at this point... in regards to how much room I have. So he'll probably tower over any future dolls that I have for quite awhile. Thankfully I don't really intend on buying anymore for awhile (even though Soom is really tempting me. >_>)

    3. I've had two SD sized dolls in my BJD career and I ended up selling both of them. I like the idea of bigger dolls, but not bigger dolls that are adults or teens. Actually, I'd prefer something along the Classic Ai size; a child the size of an actual standard baby doll. I like my dolls to be children, young children, but some of the tinies are just too small. What I would give for a 45cm Bisou Ai Pepe....T^T *ahem* But yeah, SD's are too big, and MSDs would be awesome if they came as little kids, but in Yo-Sd or Petite Ai proportions, rather than "tweens"+ The Classic Ais, for me are close enough to perfect. :)

    4. I think anything over 65 would be too big for me. I started with a tiny, moved up to an MSD, and while I do want an SD, I don't want a *huge* one. I don't have the room, the money, or the want for anything bigger.

    5. How big is too big when your 80-90cm bjd is becoming more human to you than doll like O_O;

    6. Yeeaah. o_o I agree with a lot of others here. I don't think I'd consider going over 70cm, though I love the 45cm and the 60cm sized ones. c: They're not too big or small.

    7. My boy's 71.5cm and hes 8 pounds *_* i dont have him yet but im just a tiiiiiny little bit scared that i migth not be able to take him as many places as i thought, but hey ill get some extra arm musscle! >8D *flexes her non-existant musscles* ... ;A; .. lol.

      I dont think the height is a problem except for finding clothes, but i intend to make clothes for him anyway, i wanna get better at sewing ^^; im just worried about him falling over, but so far it seems like 95% of dolls that fall over have been fine |D *has read ALOT of stories about dolls face-planting* guess theres still a chance though >.<

    8. I currently like all the sizes that are offered now from different companies.
      Although, I think 70-90cm seems big enough, if they get any bigger they'll soon end up close to life-sized. *_*
      Which would just be crazy, at least to me.

    9. I once owned a Bernard. I really loved him, but he was just too tall and lanky. I ended up selling him. I could never make him stand, however I think i might try for another 62+ boy in the future. Maybe I'll have better luck then.

    10. I don't really mind sizes all that much. I think size gives variety to ages. I have a story that I have with a bunch of different aged characters. For me...tiny is baby stage, yo-sd is child stage, MSD is young teen stages, SD late teens/early adulthood, and further can be adults.

      I currently own an MSD and SD with two SD heads floating around. I might have an incoming 70cm and surely a 65cm Soom girl after my layaway is done with her. Then I'm waiting for 3 CH dolls which their sizes are 19cm, 27cm, and 35cm. I'm going to have a house ranged with a lot of sizes. Haha. :sweat

      But personally, I don't want a 90cm. 80cm is the highest I'll go because I really like Soom's Mecha Angel Saiph. I wish they'd come out with more MAs though. *sights*

    11. 70cm was too tall for me. I can handle 65cm and under, but 70 was just too tall for me.

    12. I saw a 90 cm. at Megacon; I thought those were just a legend! He was HUGE, and weighed ten or eleven pounds. Definitely too big for my tastes.

    13. I would love a doll that big. I really like medium sized to large size dolls. I really like the idea of a doll being almost life size. Perhaps it seems weird to some people but to me it's something I would really enjoy. ^-^

    14. I just recently found out that 43cm is too big for me :(

    15. I think 70cm would be the absolute limit for me... I kinda feel like the bigger they get, the more human- and that creeps me out a little...

    16. How big is too big? ^__^ Weeeellll, if they can fall over from standing and break all my ribs at once, then, it's too big! ^______^
      *loves big dolls*

    17. i only have one MSD dolly right now and right now i couldn't have a big doll due to space constrictions, but i think i do love big dolls. my sister has a Dolkot Hara v2 and i love his weight <3 he feels so nice to hold ^_^ having said that though i love all sizes really <3

    18. Can't be too big or too small. I want to get on of Resinsoul's 68 cm girls and I wish AOD would come out with a 90cm girl.

    19. I think I prefer 65CM..but not more than 70CMbecause I also have 2 dollshe dolls. 70 is enough!

    20. At some point, you gotta ask yourself, "Why not just get a mannequin and be done with it?" I don't mind the idea of 90 cm doll. I find the sculpts vs. the scale to be lacking. Generally, the 70 cm and below sculpts tend to be better proportioned and more aesthetically pleasing, though this may only be a matter of time before the level of sophistication equalizes.

      As for too big to haul around, well, that's up to an individual's dedication.
