How Big is Too Big?

Apr 8, 2008

    1. I had an MSD, a yo and a tiny for over a year... and then fell in love with a 70cm girl. now I have two other 70cm boys and I just love that height :aheartbea they look so great all of them together and have the right weight and height to fit in my arm and carry them around. I guess that's the maximum for me

    2. I'm pretty sure AOD has 1/2 scale dolls now... 90 cm, right?
I can't even imagine a doll that big XD

As for size... I've only had one doll, a tiny, and it was awkward. but I also don't like the 60cm+ size dolls, because it was like what the heck do you do with it? @_@ I felt so awkward trying to play with them at a meet up, and I kinda just gave up. I like MSD size, but I'm planning on getting a puki, because I want one I can carry with me everywhere.

    3. My first BJD was a 60cm Elfdoll Sooah, so that's become the 'central' starting point for my collection, which is currently her and a whole mess of 14cm tinies plus a Puki. I have my first 43cm Narae on the way right now and I am really interested to see that scale in person! Just like when I was waiting for my Sooah, it's so hard to imagine how it will feel to hold a slim mini.

As far as too big, I've had a 70cm boy stay with me and found him thoroughly delightful, though he was too tall for my current doll shelf. So oddly enough when I got a 65cm Beryl, I found her overwhelming and ended up selling her. She fit on the shelf, but she was too awkward to pose and I was always afraid of her heavy hooves clacking into each other when I moved her. I guess I'd be okay with a 65cm human body, but I never swapped out her legs to test that theory. In retrospect, maybe I ought have! :doh

    4. Volks SD17 size is the max for me. (About 65cm or so.) I used to own a Hound and a Bermann, but got tired of the big, unwieldy dolls, and how their scale looked just a little off with my other boys. From now on, I'm sticking to the SD/SD13/SD17 range since it's what I've found I prefer. :)

    5. The biggest is my Soom 65cm........so far. I've seen the AOD 90 cm and would love to see one of those in person. They have two 90cm boys for now, curious to see if there will be any girls

    6. For me, a doll that I can not lift up is too big. I prefer to stay with the 60cm and below sizes.

    7. my limit is somewhere around 90cm i guess. i would be totally scared if i sit with some doll same tall as me

    8. I think that Dolls above MSD size start getting sort of creepy, I wouldn't want them in my room with me at night. Some friends of mine have SD size and larger, they just don't seem as graceful and elegant to me as the slightly smaller ones.

    9. MSD is the largest I think I'll ever own. While a lot of the larger dolls are absolutely gorgeous, I just can't handle dolls that size. They're too heavy and I'd be too afraid of something happening to them

    10. I think 70cm is the biggest I could ever go. I'm about 162cm myself, and the idea of having a doll half the size of my scares the crap out of me xD

60-70 would be my preference I think. I'm not all that fond of the smaller dolls (mostly because most of my characters are on the taller side)

    11. I've seen a (9ocm) Now that's to big.

    12. I bought the very first run of the Soom Sabik Meca Angel .. I was in love with him.. I waited and waited and waited for him to come.. It killed me I looked at his photo everyday.. the one that the bottm of his page with the gun and the fence with the whole in it.. it always looked very CowboyBebop to me very Spike Spegal like..Thats who he was being modeled after so it was great..

Well he came in the mail.. I was soooo excited.. I opened the box and well.. I guess I was over whelmed.. I tried for almost a year to bond with him but he always just seems out of proportion or something to me. I ended up selling him.. he was the very first doll I ever sold. :(

I dont think I will ever go that large again.. I like the Super Gem size and my feeple Breakaway but I dont think I will go much larger then 70cm ever again.

    13. I wouldn't want anything larger than an SD16 boy really. The SD17 is lovely but it's out of my price range and is too big compared to my SD13 boys, I think.

    14. I always thought 'Those Mech Angels... those are too big for me!'

Then I fell in love with Corvi. He's my probably-won't-ever-get-him dream doll, and if by any chance I *did* get him, I'd have to get him a same-size friend...

So now my rule is 'If it's as tall as I am, it's too big'. I think I can stick to that.

      =^__^=

    15. I'm apparently a minidoll-person trough and trough. I used to have a bunch of SDs, but after a while I realised that even though they all were lovely they were just too big for me. I never took them outdoors or to meetups or hardly even photographed them, I just felt that their size was very bothersome. So in the end I sold them all.

So from experience I've learned that it's no use for me to buy any doll bigger than 40 cms, because I'm just going to end up selling them :sweat

    16. I think 70cm is the max limit..though I don't plan to own any this size as none of the 70cm sculpts appeal to me much, and if I can help it I would prefer taking a 70 head and finding a way to fit it on a 60cm size body. I think anything over 80+ would just be waaay too much doll to manage.

    17. my DZ wing has arrived two weeks ago, and i was suprised how tall and heavy he was, after some getting used to him i dont see him as too big at all! i love him dearly and now i dont look at him as too big anymore, for me probably next doll will be 80 ore 90 cm.

    18. My tallest doll is about 60cm. But I'd like Iplehouse Akando. The size isn't a problem for me. I'm in doubt about the weight!

    19. I have a few 70cm-ish boys right now and I think that's probably the biggest I'll go. I've done commission work on a few that were substantally bigger than that, (all the way up to the 90cm AOD boys), and, while theyr'e beautiful, they're actually too heavy for me to handle easily and I can't picture myself playing with them on a regular basis.

I do enjoy the 70cm size though :)

    20. I currently have 70cm dolls but I also like 60cm dolls. I could go bigger than 70cm, if fact the bigger the better just as long as the sculpt is proportionate to the head size and if they make them bigger I expect them thicker not thinner. But I wont also just buy a doll because it's bigger the sculpt has to appeal to me somehow.
