How Big is Too Big?

Apr 8, 2008

    1. I think 70cm is my limit xD
The prices are rather outrageous, for one, and two, I really think anything larger I wouldn't be able to handle D8
Personally I really like MSD-sized dollies... they're not too big, not too small, they really suit me <3
      Although that said, I do plan to have at least one or two 60cm and one 70cm >3>;;

    2. Currently, anything bigger than MSD size is too big, but I've only handled SDs once, and it was also my first time seeing them in person. So a bit of a shocker... I can measure out 60cm but it doesn't really prepare you for how big they really are... And yet, I still really want a DZ Morphoa (SD size...)

    3. I don't have a tall doll but I would love to have one... I think they are fascinating.

    4. @ DeKaady- *sniffles* all the big dollies *sniffles*

    5. I would collect MSDs, except most of the sculpts I like are more adult and are SD or larger while most MSDs are more childlike. After having a number of SD-size dolls (and one EID), I got a Zaoll, and I love her size (52 cm) -- she seems so portable and easier to pose. I really don't like the tendency of doll companies to make their larger size dolls bigger and bigger.

    6. I prefer the larger dolls, personally. Anything smaller than an MSD is too small (But I have a tiny lol. Only one though..) My largest so far is my SDF Abadon and I'd like to go larger, but at the moment, can't afford it lol.

    7. Well at the moment i only have a msd, but i love holding the bigger dolls, and in the future i really want one, but i think i could only handle 1. I don't really know why...but it seems like just the right amount for a bigger one....:sweat

    8. msd or smaller, i just dont like big dolls, they seem to take up too much space and feel more like toys that art pieces. but i prefer art dolls anyway, so thats my reasoning for that haha. the big ones remind me too much of the huge life sized barbie dolls that kids used to get.

    9. I'm only planning on getting Minis and Tinies. When I went to a couple doll meets before I got my mini Dawn, I saw all the sizes. I was surprised that I found myself really adoring lots of tinies, because I thought the size might be too small/babyish for me to appreciate. Minis seem to be just about perfect size X3 . But! At the meet, the Minis seemed smaller than I expected (haha, the other way around from usual). I was a little worried that maybe I would find them too small and be unhappy when I got my own minis, but eventually I realized 'HAHyeahright This is a perfect size. The big dolls are cool, but they're too huge for you to want to OWN, aren't they?? How could you play with them easily?!' .

I think that having one bigger doll might be cool, but not like 60-65cm... more like 50-55cm. Not just the size, but also how they scale to minis and tinies I don't like. A big reason though is that I just don't like how a lot of the bigger dolls look. Well, I like lots of them but I don't want to own most of them. Their bodies are too unrealistically tall, guy's muscles too over-the-top and unnattractive, the heads too realistic and different from the doll aesthetic I'm going for in my collection. Stuff like that.

But if I were to make a doll, which I want to try (andfailat) I'd love to make a 53cm one X3 . I don't think I'd ever buy a bigger doll than mini though.

      <3 ali

    10. I love the big dolls. I was a bit disappointed actually with my first SD sized doll, thinking she'd look bigger. Maybe it's because the head looks small in comparison to body to me I don't know. (I collect Blythe too so my view of doll proportions has become skewed!) But I love the big girls.

    11. Maybe 70-80cm? Well, I have to say that I'm not sure. Now the biggest doll that I have is MDS. It's kind of big.. I would want 70-80cm doll if I want it just for a decoration, but because I love to take photos of them and do some clothes and stuff.. I don't think that I could live with big doll. :D

    12. Angel of dream 90cm boys O_O When I first saw them I was like: cool! 8D I especialy liked Bo, but then I thought about how much they must weight..It would be like cariing a little child and just bringing them to stand would be a nightmare..They are beautifull but just too big..

    13. I used to think that 70cm was as big as I could ever handle. But now that I've seen a Soom Mecha Angel in person, I'm pretty sure I could handle all the way up to 80cm. Anything bigger than that, though, I definitely think is pushing it.

    14. I think the largest I would ever go is 65cm. Which is pushing it still, 'cause I'd prefer 60 on the dot. xP
I think most people would be like, "Aw, that's still small!" but I only have MSDs now, so it's big enough! haha.
You've got to stop somewhere though, otherwise I'd just be like, "Oh, it's only five more centimetres..." until it was a giant, hah.

    15. thought I'd be really into big dolls, like 60cm or bigger. But I only have one now, and have been investing in MSD sized ones...I always htough I'd like bigger, but even reading the illusion dollies are 70cm makes me go WOW THATS HUGE! I dunno, I NEVER saw myself as an MSD collector but they're so much easier to transport and I like their size for making clothes, ect....it's wierd what you see yourself as and then what actually happens. I see huge SOOM dolls at meets and I'm just like WOW!!!I dunno what I'd do with you! heehee

    16. Personally I LOVE the larger dolls, smaller ones dont tend to have the proportions i like, and its easier to fit detail into a larger area, like with 60-70 cm dolls!

    17. I don't have any preference, be it 70cm or 60cm I think so long I like the face mold~ Actually, I'd love to see a life size bjd someday lolz :D

    18. I think anything over 70-75cm is a bit too big because of the weight

    19. I would actually enjoy dressing a mannequin but a really big doll? I'm kind of OCD about my dolls that I play with at the same time being relatively close to on scale with each other. I can't really picture a doll more than 65cm fitting in with my SDs and I am currently having a hard time fitting my one msd into the picture.

    20. I wouldn't want to own one but I think a life size one would be very cool. It would basically be an articulated mannequin. I would imagine it would have to cost over $5000. I could imagine a store window full of life size BJDs in high fashion clothing. WOW!
The largest I would want to own I think would be the 70cm SD Males. But I must admit I see something beautiful and unique in every size category.
