How Big is Too Big?

Apr 8, 2008

    1. Anything over 50cm dolls are too big for me. I like mature MSDs and the 50cm dolls that are in scale with MSDs. I don't own a 50cm, but I'd be open to the idea. I think my tallest right now is 46cm. I just like the size range. It's not too big, but not too small. I don't like anything under 40cms either.

    2. I think 70cm is a little too big, I have a spirit doll and she is 66cm so I think thats the best hight. It's not too big and not too small for a SD.

I also keep an measuring tape by my computer, it has both cm and inches. It can help you get a good visual on the size of your doll.

    3. I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to doll sizes. Both of mine are YO-SD sized, about 26CM - I'd say, for me, anything above 40CM would be a bit intimidating!

    4. My personal limit would be 70 cm. However, I consider my Granado/Leeke-Hybrid with 65 cm really tall enough.

Although I am quite happy that he is not super-massive. It would be very interesting to see and hold an Iplehouse EID super hero in person.

    5. my biggest is a mega gem. he would be perfect :). but my March has a 70 athletic body and i like that too. my Mom has Arvid and i think i would die if i drug him to a meet or show. he weights a ton!!!

    6. Both my dolls are MSD sized - Ces is 45cms and Sera will be 44cms when she gets made. I think that MSD is a lovely cuddly size, but I'd really like to explore all different sizes of BJD. I really like the look of these massive 60/70cm dolls, and I think they'd be great fun to hold. I think 70cm is definitley the biggest they should get though - I still remeber how heavy Ces felt when I first bought him, I wouldn't like to try and cart around a very large doll all of the time (since I'm prone to carrying Ces around everywhere like a baby).

    7. You know, I used to think 70cm was way too big but I look at my 58cm girl and think that a 70cm male would look so good next to her. When you're looking for a muscular body sculpt, there seem to be more and better ones in 70 or 65 than 60. My sister's looking at a 70cm BJD solely because that particular face sculpt ended up being the perfect one for the character she wants to make. She says that matching the sculpt perfectly is more important than moving above her 'comfort zone' of 60cm.

    8. I do prefer dolls to be around the same height, about 65cm. Nothing to tall as I fear it makes the doll family look mismatched. I didn't dare put any SID into my wishlist because despite being slightly smaller, I don't want to risk them looking mismatched with my EIDs.

    9. 90cm is too big for me. > u> but personally I like the taller dolls (albeit only owning MSDs as we speak) and am currently waiting for a 73cm one. Anywhere from 70 to 75 should be alright with me. c:

    10. Gosh, I dunno. I choose my dolls (and their sizes) based on my characters. My 11-year-old is a 45 cm MSD. I used him as a starting-point, so my two adults are around 65 cm. If Gawain gets a wife, I want her to be a teensy bit taller than he, so she'll have to be 65 cm+. Should I ever get another male adult, he'd have to be taller than Gawain too (probably around 70 cm), because Gawain is supposed to be a shortie.

There is no doubt that my MSD is the easiest doll to handle. I guess a doll might be 'too big' for me if I'm not strong enough to take proper care of it. But as long as it is well-engineered and I can handle it, I don't think there is a size that is too big for me per se.

    11. Anything that in any way dwarfs MSDs for me. MSDs are the perfect size, in proportion to me and my puny room and budget. D': To me personally, the majority of sculpts I find appealing are MSDs, anyway, so it's a moot point. I'm unwilling to purchase a doll any larger than fifty centimeters, and would like to acquire a YoSD. To someone as weak and relatively uncoordinated as I, SDs are too heavy and unstable, and I fear dropping one every time I hold one.

    12. 90 Cm was too big for me. 80 might be too. 70 was alright.

    13. When I got my first doll he was much bigger than I expected…I didn't measure it out with a ruler before I got the actual doll lol.
But now that I'm used to 60cm dolls I think they're just the right size.
But for me I think over 70cm would just be too big and heavy to carry around.

    14. I'm use to having MSD sized dollies and under. :)
I have a pukifee and Bobobie MSD, so an SD to me may be much heavier and they are also very pretty too.
I'm going as far as 55cm for me. :P
I've held SD's at doll meets for a bit to see how heavy they are, then i put them back on the table. :sweat I usally don't pick up the dollies but getting an SD will be like having a little mature looking child. :P

    15. I've found that the perfect size range for me is between 40 cm and 60 cm....I don't like any under that size or over. (I find the 60+ cm to be too big to play with and the tinies to be too small to sew for.)

    16. Probably anything bigger than a 60 cm doll might be too big for me; I think MSD is my ideal size.

    17. Personally, I really like big dolls, and never thought there would ever be a bjd in existance that was too big. Well I was wrong! Those Angel of Dream 1/2 scale dolls are huge and you can bet those suckers are heavy and take up room. If I hug it to my bosom and it touches my knees, it's too big. Soom Mecha Angel anyone? 8D

    18. Not sure if this has been brought up recently but I've looked...I've come across a few ebay sightings and now this doll by AOD: http://www.aoddoll.net/ProDetail.asp?id=273

90 Cm! That isn't so common! I've heard many people express not wanting to bring their 70cm's and such out to events as they are more prone to getting ruined somehow... with a 90 cm doll I would think it impossible to bring home in one piece!

What are the largest and smallest bjd's you've come across? I saw a sleeping newborn at an event that coudn't have been more than 10 cm.

    19. Wow! I never saw something like this!

I think the main problem would be to find clothes on this size! I don`t remember seeing this size of clothes for sale (or shoes...how long is his foot? O.o).

    20. I believe the size was 11.5cm for the length of the foot.

The smallest dolls I've seen are puki puki's and the tallest was a 70 or 72(can't really remember). To be honest, though 90cm is way too tall for me. I cap the dolls I want to 70cm or 75cm(even though that's pushing it).

ETA: I think the reason why I wouldn't want anything taller is because it starts to become a bit of a space issue for me as well. I don't really have a lot if that where I am now, and not sure how much I'll have where ever it is that I may move to.
