How Big is Too Big?

Apr 8, 2008

    1. Oh god. Wow. My dream boy is a DOI A&D and he is 70cm @_@ I just wish he was 60cm. I still think that 60cm is freaking huge but I never saw one in person. So I dunno. It's hard when I don't have a human doll size reference to look at. I wanted to get a feel of the 60 and 70cm dolls before buying one but I don't have the means. I would love to have the DOI but 70cm is just too big for me. ._.; I wish they made him smaller. ^_^; And sheesh the price @_@ I can't justify spending THAT MUCH on a DOLL. It's unbelievable. >_>

      oops 200 posts. 8D

    2. To me, there is no such thing as too big...
I recently caught myself thinking about how cool it would be to own one of these Japanese Love dolls (Orient Dolls)... JUST to dress up and buy wigs for and stuff!
You know, they're not very different from BJD, except they are ...erhm.. soft?
Too bad they are just a tad bit over my budget... ร nd my boyfriend wouldn't allow it..:sweat

Oh, and talking about 'big' dollies.. I am truely in love with the Little Girl Giant.

If I would be very rich, I would own her, and a crew to operate her.
So that proves, for me there is no such thing as too big.

    3. 6'2" is my limit. My very good-humored hubby allowed me to have 'Joe', here, my handsome military mannequin who gets dressed up in prop costumes. I have considered sawing him up to put in ball-joints, since he's hollow, but I fear for his ability to stand if I did. Costumes are heavy. Much heavier than he is.

    4. My first boy was 60cm, the one I will be buying soon is 70cm, I'm wishing for an 80, and the rest are somewhere in between... I absolutely love the bigger dolls. Heck, I'd probably buy a bigger one should they ever come out with them!

    5. Personally, I don't think I would go above 60cm. I actually love MSD's much more than taller dolls anyway, but seeing MSD's next to 70 and 80cm dolls pretty much scare me away from collecting them, as they wouldn't fit into my family as well as I would hope. But this can be a good thing as well, for my wallet and such. Despite this, I don't think there's any way someone could call someone else's doll 'too big.' Because it's not like you can change opinions.

    6. AWW! Such a cute guy! Thank heavens I'm not the only nutter to like 1:1 scale dolls.. :sweat

    7. Personally, anything above 45cm is too big for me! @_@

    8. I would like to have a SD sized doll one day--if the budget will stretch that far. Beyond that size I would have major storage/safe from cats issues and I have back problems so I have to watch what I lift too.

    9. Still on topic, sorta, but what us Big dollie peeps need is some sort of dollie sling. I mean, they have them for babies, why not dollies?

*goes to put on creative crochet beanie*

    10. I think my 64cm boy is pretty big already. I freaking love him to death, but if he were any bigger I don't think I would've bought him. 65cm+ would be too heavy (and intimidating!) for me, and they'd also be harder to handle. xP Also, I'm not sure if 80cm dolls would be easy to balance due to their height.

    11. My first boy is 70cm and I really love him, but now I have some problems trying to find a friend of the same size (a girl of 60cm is ok for me, but a boy should be more or less like him). I like the 80cm boys of Soom, but they are far too big. Finding clothes for these dolls is almost impossible :doh

    12. I LOVE my doll, Cain, who's a 70 cm bernard. they weight is very comforting, and i have not problem with the size. I wanted to get a Sabik, but there's just something about his face that i don't like. oh well, maybe later ^__^ if it gets heavier than a real baby, then no thanks, but i can handle 3 kg at the heaviest. now, papermoon dolls and Candy girl, THOSE are just plain freaky. (I say this because I have a friend who owns one from both companies)

    13. my first doll was 70cm, I was actually shocked by how small he was :sweat

I wouldnt really want anything bigger than 80cm, although having said that my sabik is in big gothic platforms  I do sometimes worry about his long limbs getting snapped when they dangle but so far not so much as a bump

but having said that I've never actually seen a 60cm doll in person, my health has been bad recently so I've never been to a meet

so maybe I would prefer something smaller, but for now I am happy with my beautiful boys

when I went shopping in london with my sabik I got chased across a shop by some guy waving something and screaming "hello kitty for your baby!" :o

I'd rather avoid any "baby" things I can

    14. I like tiny dolls, and mini dolls, but I bought a Sooah recently and she measures 60cm. I think 70cm isn't very big, but I prefer smaller dolls. The problem is not only space for the doll, but for its clothes, that are bigger too.

    15. A couple of weeks ago, I just ordered the doll that will be my tallest: Soom Beryl. Apparently she's just shy of 70cm with her hoofed legs. I think 70cm is about the largest I'll go though. The Mecha Angels are gorgeous and I love to admire them, but I think they'd be too much for me to handle. I saw one at a local meet, and they're so big! :sweat

    16. omg i love big doll...it never too big for me...heheheh all my dolls have to be MSD size and up. heheheh

    17. Seeing that 80 cm is the biggest there is, I can go there... and maybe bigger. Just it would be extremely expensive.

    18. So far anything over 60cm is too big for my tastes. :/

    19. I think between 64cm and 70cm is the perfect height for me. Anything over that and I just wouldn't feel comfortable. (and think of the storage space! It's bad enough as it is! xD) I love taller dolls, as several of my characters are supposed to be amaaaazingly tall in real life, but I don't want them to get too big. Plus, I wouldn't want anything which would be out of place amongst the rest of my boys.

My parents also seem to think that the bigger they get, the weirder they are. :| But it's not like I pay any attention to that.

My tallest boy is around 65cm at the moment (excluding the times when he wears mega platform boots.) I'm going to order a D.O.I 70cm body in a few months. I'm actually really excited! I can't wait to have a big boy in the family! ;) (and all he wears is pretty much black shirts and pants, so shopping for him shouldn't be too bad . . .)

    20. I have a SD and I love her dearly. I'm pretty sure anything taller or heavier would be too much for me though, because of my small size.
