It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How Clean are Your Dolls?

Jan 25, 2010

    1. I handle my dolls daily, and I don't have time to bathe them daily, so they do get dirty sometimes, but never nasty. Maybe a smudge here, a stain there, but nothing a magic eraser won't fix. When I'm not doing something with them, they stay in the my doll room with the door shut, and it stays clean in there and has very little dust. They don't stay in boxes. If I have a doll in a box, it'll be sold before long. Boxed = no interest around here. They sit on shelves set up to look like rooms.

    2. My dolls are decently clean. I'm working off and on on one of my dolls, so she's sparkly clean right now. The other has a few little marks on her from my nails being painted all the time, but they rub off easy with a magic eraser.

I try to keep them dusted, but I do see that one has some dust particles on her lashes. Dust also likes to stick to the glossy areas of the faceup. No majorly dirty dolls around here though. We won't discuss the area AROUND my dolls... I'm a lazy housekeeper.

    3. My dolls are clean unless I'm working on them. When I'm done, they are cleaned and stored in their boxes.
Can't stand seeing stains on them. My friend once let me borrow her big guy and he met the Magic Eraser.

    4. I handle my dolls often enough that they avoid dust, and I make sure my hands are as clean as possible so I will not get any marks or dirt on them. My Soom girl does have some staining from when her previous owner left her wig on for way too long, but I took a Magic Eraser to that and got most of that off.

    5. I think my dolls are average clean. I don't know if it is okay, but I use regular cleaning products, those that say "all surface" :P

    6. I am just wondering if a damp cloth will remove faceup... usually I just clean their hands and feet with a damp cloth because I touch them too much, some times when I need to post their head, I touch a bit of their cheeks... I really want to wipe it with cloth but I am scared to get it ruined x(

    7. I won't lie, I've stained a couple. >.< Live and learn, right? But I've gotten better. They're in pretty good shape now. White underwear to protect them and things like that. Canned air is good for getting dust off their delicate faces, and I agree with the ones who have said inside out masking or scotch tape.

    8. If they're sealed correctly, a damp cloth shouldn't do any damage. I've used a soft, damp cloth or a cotton swab on several of my dolls' faces when needed and nothing came off. Just use a soft touch.

    9. I only turn my dolls heads by their ears. Never by their face.
      No stains "touch wood".
I use Swiffer Dusters. SUPER soft. I use it on wigs, on faces, even on their clothes. I swiffer every week as they are kept out.Occasionally I'll hand wash clothes.

    10. Hehe, mine aren't exactly "clean" nor are they "dirty." Reading through some responses it would seem like my dolls are "dirty" but I don't see it that way at all - I think I see it as more 'wear and tear.' I keep mine out in the open and they do collect dust, but I don't clean them everyday. Most of the time they just get dusty, so I use a swiffer duster on them like michealmicheal does, they are soft and 'pick' up that dust like nothing else. I don't like to use magic erasers very much because they do take off more than that bit of grim you want off, but if there is some staining from some clothes that I left on to long, I do use it. I also use a toothbrush to comb/tame flyaways when needed.

    11. My dolls are nude and wigless, wrapped in white cloth in their boxes, and I check them every time I take them out of their boxes, (I sew for them a lot), for dirt, I wipe them down with a clean white wash cloth and warm water. When they are restrung I do a mega thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, then soak them in Dawn, then pure clean water. I don't take chances with them getting dirty or stained. I value them too much.

    12. My son always sits on my table in my room. He might collect dust but I'm always touching and peting him (I'm wearing gloves to not leave stains) so I collect it all on my gloves and then clean them.

    13. I keep my dolls in display on a bookshelf, whit the courtains down all the time and i don't have pets at the time u.u
and when i go out to take pictures i bring magic eraser, a little comb from AC, umbrella, extra clothes and baby wipes just in case, i keep clothes, wigs and shoes inside cardboxes. I think i can wash and restrung, give new faceup if i will need

    14. I keep all of my dolls out on display in my spare bedroom, and I keep the room closed off from the rest of the house. They do get a little dusty, so I use a soft makeup brush (bought specifically for the dolls, never touched makeup!) to dust them off. If they get a mark or stain, I use a magic eraser to get them clean again. I've only had a couple of second hand dolls that needed a full on bath and for that I took them apart, used a magic eraser and 91% alcohol (wear gloves!) to scrub them, then a good rinse. I use thin cotton gloves to handle a few of my dolls that have very intricate body blushing and are displayed nude.

    15. I clean my doll by Magic sponge and colorless shampoo ( no conditioner and oil free) but if I want to remove MSC coat, I will use thinner.

    16. I keep mine out all the time if they're completed (head+faceup+body+clothing of some kind). I handle them often! But I still try to keep them as clean as possible. I always inspect their faceups for signs of dust or staining, and the same goes for their bodies when I dress them. Whenever I get a new doll, it automatically gets a bath and a restringing. Every year or so, they'll get another bath and restringing (or sooner if needed!) Touchups between baths are done by Magic Eraser if needed! And after a certain number of years (5++), I'll give them a full-body sand to get rid of some yellowing and staining if there is any. (I also just love how smooth it makes their resin.) Wigs are always brushed gently with a small toothbrush to keep out dust and to keep them in order...

Hm... I can't really think of anything else I do with them to keep them clean. I'm really proud of my dolls and like to keep them in the best shape possible, so I'm always ordering supplies to do maintenance on them. I want to keep them with me for as long as I can, and I want them to be just as beautiful then as they are now!

    17. I have a desk where I keep all my nick-nacks at. I only have one doll and another on the way, so this is where I keep mine until I get a horde. It's around where my computer is at, along with my printer. It's a really nice desk setup. I dust it very often, as the desk is a darkly stained wood, almost black. So my dolls are pretty clean.

    18. Aside from dust, I'd say mine are pretty clean. I generally do wash my hands before handling them, and they're kept away from the kitchen where they might get cooking residue on them. I also don't smoke, so they're safe from that. They rarely go out anywhere where they might get dirty, and I do clean them up carefully afterward (typically with just a soft cloth, damp if necessary, and a magic eraser only if something won't come off otherwise--most of them are fully blushed and magic erasers can damage or remove blushing).

    19. I have all my dolls on shelves because I like to see them but when I'm not playing with them I put face masks on them and sheets over them to keep the dust out....I also make sure to give them a full "bath" and MSC spray every year.

    20. I keep my dolls pretty clean. They stay in their boxes whenever I'm not playing with them (I re-wrap them as if they're new). And after I finished playing with them each time, I use damp paper towels to wipe them from head to toes and use magic eraser.
