1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Clean are Your Dolls?

Jan 25, 2010

    1. I keep both my dolls in their boxes unless I'm using them. But I'd like to get a book shelf when I get more dolls. I do clean them when ever I see a spot though.

    2. I recently got a very nice bookshelf from Ikea, it was only $135 with glass doors and adjustable shelves. here is a picture

    3. My dolls are fairly clean. I don't have display cabinets big enough, nor do I have space for them so they all sit on normal shelves which does cut down on a lot of dust, but not all. The only ones who need dusting regularly are the unlucky few who have to sit on top due to lack of space (I guess I have to move more books, dammit). And I have cats (and a dog but she's the non-shedding kind)...they don't touch the dolls (yay for cat-training!) but they make sure their hairs get on and in everything. I have lint rollers everywhere. Everywhere.

The dolls themselves...well, I like to blush my dolls so a lot of them get the clothing color rub-off, and sometimes I don't clean them perfectly because that takes off the blushing....but my dolls aren't really dirty with actual dirt. I've gotten some second-hand that took hours to clean....so I know mine aren't near that bad XD

I uh, do touch my dolls faces sometimes, but I'm not dirty (I don't like things on my hands so I wash them often) and there isn't dirt on their faces. Unless they put it there (a couple of them have a habit of smacking their own faces and have acrylic nail "polish" that gets all over them. I swear they kick each other sometimes too and get scuff marks. They suck.).

    4. I would say fairly clean. I don't have enclosed cases to display them so they sit on bookshelves. I dust around them more than the rest of my house. xD

    5. I keep my dolls in their boxes. I take them out for a few days while I take pictures, but I never leave them out long enough to collect dust.
Still, there are many great posts here about how to clean a doll, so I will try and learn.

    6. I really want to get one of the Ikea bookshelves for them. Right now they stay out of trouble by sitting on the floor of my closet where they have their own space. When they get dusty I get a very soft (lotion free) tissue and very carefully dust them. I get dust off the eyes with q-tips.

    7. I usually use magic eraser only when I see spots on mine and especially after they have been wearing dark clothes or wigs. never leave those dark wigs or clothes on for long or only let them wear them while im present, as for their hair I brush it with my wig brush, yes I have a professional wig brush of which you can obtain on ebay fairly cheap. (though that toothbrush idea sounds interesting, ill have to try it.) as for joints I pull them each apart every so often to check for gunk and just used magic erase or a soft wet cloth to remove it. the soft wet cloth is also used on the face because I dont want to remove their faceups. as for clothes lint remover or hand washing works. well for me.

    8. With my collection, all of my dolls have a single spot. At least once a month I go through and brush everyone's wigs and readjust sitting/standing positions. That seems to be enough to keep dust and dirt at bay. I also try to change outfits or at least alternate outfits every season which lets me get a good look at how dirty they might be from clothing and such. Once I move I plan on having a cabient with glass doors to help cut down on light exposure, safety (no risk of falling), and keeping them clean.

    9. I keep my dolls on the shelf now, behind the glass. I take them out often, but they spend most of time there) It helps to keep them clean. A small brush helps to move away dust if necessary)

    10. I keep all my dolls in their boxes so they don't yellow as much/quickly. When they do get dirty spots, I take a Mr Clean Magic Eraser to them. First I use it dry but if that doesn't work, I'll dampen it slightly then try again. I find that it works real well without damaging the resin!

    11. I often keep them out, then about once a month I take all their used clothes and wigs and wash them. I don't really wash the dolls though, I only dust them if they need to and scrub with magic eraser if they have any actual stain. I also have a cabinet I sometimes put them into, but the glass is grey colored and I don't like it. I want to see them without having to take them out, that's why they stay out most of the time.
I keep their clothes in one of their boxes. I have a couple big plastic bags I got with an order from Dollmore and they're very handy to keep clothes and wigs in.
I'll probably need to reorganize that storage space when I'll get them new clothes...

    12. My dolls are between a case, one still in it's box, and another in a photobox display with other figurines.

    13. My dolls swear like sailors and have many strange habits, so they're filthy dolls......the religious would definitely characterize them as unclean....

    14. I would think my dolls are fairly clean. I'm a neat freak and I work part time in a dental office so I'm always washing my hands. I keep the same habits from work to home. I wash my hands even if they're not dirty. I also keep the area my dolls sit nice and clean. That's probably the only spot I dust. I won't even touch them unless I wash my hands.

    15. I keep mine on a shelf. I personally hate to keep them on their boxes because I like to see them everyday. I would not put them on a bookshelf with glass doors either. It will feel like I am not allow to play with them. Because they sit on a shelf, they get a little dusty sometime; but I try to change their clothes often and clean them. I prefer to do that, that to keep them storage on their boxes or a bookcase.

    16. All my dolls are in boxes but this doesn't prevent dust from clothes to collect in their joints. I've just restringed one of my oldest dolls yesterday and he was filthy. And he still had resin dust in his joints.

    17. I mean considering I just got them they're extremely clean

    18. Right now I have a rug that sheds like mad so until I get a new rug everything in my apartment get fibers on so Mia gets wiped down every day to keep the rug fibers from getting in her joints.

    19. 'Funny thing... A couple of months after I posted this, two massive construction projects started up within a block of my house. I ended up buying a set of glass-doored display cabinets for my crew a few weeks later, when the dust situation went from "tolerable" to "OMGWTFHowDidYouGuysGetSoGrimy!?!"

      EVER!

I'm still a neat-freak, and the gang are still kept as close to spotless as I can manage... and those cabinets are a big help.

    20. I keep my dolls out and about the house, actually! No one really messes with them :) I clean them once a month, but honestly they tend to hang out in whichever room I'm in.
