How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. If I could pick a size for everyone to be I'd go with mini, except for my Obitsu 60. My mini couple takes up about as much room as one of the 70s and I like the idea of everyone being able to share things. I also take my dolls out a lot and the minis are much easier to travel with.

The only mini drawback is the cute factor, but being short a mini angel of death is easier to cuddle than one half my size.

What I like about my SD guys is they can fit much easier on my hip. I don't have to cradle them in my arm and it's neat to see people give them a second look to make sure they're not real. The resins are too heavy for my liking but the O60 feels like he weighs nothing.

    2. I prefer MSD, primarily because they simply take up less space and they have a delicacy that appeals to me, but I have to say the sheer beauty and selection of the SDs made it a difficult choice. I'd say that maturity of the facial sculpt and the body is the biggest downside to the MSD. It's hard to find a mature mini!

    3. For me it's about the head molds, I can more MSD sized headmolds I like over SD sized. I also have difficulty in carrying heavy things for any length of time (longer than 10 minutes >.<) and MSDs are lighter so I can carry them around easier. Also I live in a rather cramped apartment with my mom and lil sis and having a bunch of big dolls is just not something I can have a whole lot of. Not to mention most of the SD sized dolls I think look rather clumsy in almost any pose and they are WAY more expensive.

But with all of that said I am planning on two SD sized dolls, an E-an and Camine from DOD. They are going to be changed into my first fan fic characters and considering I spent 4 nearly 5 years writing that story I felt I owed my characters that special honor of being bigger than my normal collection of BJDs. Not to mention I can sew their outfits better on a bigger scale and I can get a high heel part for my girl so she can wear the boots in her henshin form and pretty heels in her princess/queen form.:)

    4. It also depends on the head mold for me. I do like the size for MSDs, especially because of their price, weight, and size, but none of the face molds are really what I'm looking for *_*; It doesn't help that I've fallen in love with a mold that's only for SD D;

    5. I prefer the SD size simply because they are easier to sew for. I have made clothing for Barbie-size and the margin of error is way too small! And no, I don't believe that has affected my reasoning for buying Sabik, the biggest SD of all....

Plus there are way more options for buying SDs, because I have seen child-like ones (Dollga Noella) and super mature ones (Unidoll Real series) and everything in-between. And of course you can change the face-up so they look younger or older.

The MSD size is quite small to me.... I saw my very first MSD about two months ago and I was floored by how tiny they were!

Though, in the near future I may get a Pipos Baha.... but only because it's a kitty cat and I love kitty cats :3

    6. I went for 70cm for my biggest one, because that scales all my others correctly in accordance to the heights of characters in my story ^_^. One other works as a 70, most as 60s, and a few at 40 (like Orientdolls, which I like.)

    7. um im just glad there both available so i dont have to choose >< XX

    8. I was intimidated by the size and cost of the large dolls. I liked mature minis a lot and decided they would be easier to find room for and less expensive to dress and wig. I am happy with my decision - the mature minis are a very cute size.

And I've always liked tiny dolls so I also have a lot of tinies!

    9. MSD is the perfect size for me. I'm a small person (4'10", not growing anymore), and so MSD is just right. :D Not too big, not too heavy.

    10. I'm relatively new here but I went for the 57cm+ dolls. My thoughts were that these dolls are really expensive so I may as well get my moneys worth. I'm not really intimidated by the size, in fact the bigger the better since it's easier to sew clothes (they also look more impressive). Also I find that there aren't many mature faces to choose from with MSDs and most head scupts that speak to me are usually SD sized.

    11. Hah, there was never any question for me. I didn't even THINK about the littler ones, I went straight for the BIG puppies. 60cm is small enough as it is. I think larger dolls are more novel, really. To me, the little ones lose some of the oomph that the SDs have, being so close to...well, Barbie size.

      .

    12. Well, i'm planning to get 2 MSD's and 2 SD's - I have one MSD already so that's one down and 1 to go!

I just fall in love with a particular mold. For example - the Angell-Studio Vera is the ONLY girl I love and I missed a chance to get her with a PERFECT faceup from a seller right here on DoA (I cried for DAYS - I am NOT joking :...() sooo gutted. She's an MSD size and STUNNING.

As for the SD's - the DoT Sha mold is the one I just kept coming back to once i decided Yuki was to have an older brother since I knew I wanted them both to be DoD's but I just couldn't find a DoT other than him I loved... And the JollyPlus Gise is just too stunning for words <3 <3 <3

Even though Yuki doesn't actually look anything like I imagined or intended him to look, I love him more because he's independently 'broken the mold' so to speak and dashed headlong away from his 'look' even while keeping his character <3 I love that he's done that because I was a little concerned that I wouldn't love him if he wasn't JUST SO but for some reason I find myself MORE attached to him for that very reason... Did I just repeat myself there? :sweat

Anyway, I know there are some occasions where you just don't bond with a doll and I think that's such a shame... Not only is it an expensive mistake, but also if you're so excited about a particular mold or character coming home and you find you're just 'meh' about them when they get there... i'd find that very disheartening and i'd probably struggle to want to buy another one after that... which is why i'm holding off on my next one until the excitement of Yuki arriving has worn off (if it ever does  ) so I don't struggle to bond with both of them :sweat

However, I do struggle to find MSD sized clothes, jewelery, wigs, etcetc :sweat It seems to be a pretty SD revolving world of BJDs even though sooooo many people have MSD's! I guess there's just more SD stuff about so SD owners are more likely to sell their stuff or make stuff for them? I don't know. I may find the opposite as soon as I have an SD i need to find specific things for!! lmao

    13. I've learnt never to say never in the world of dolls. It just doesn't work! XD
I started out only wanting one doll, and MSD sized, which I did keep true to for over 8 months, then somehow, I added 2 tinies and now have one SD sized boy home, and another on layaway.....:sweat

I think my taste in size evolved over time, and after I've seen/handled different sized dolls in real life. And now, I think I'm definitely a SD sized person. Weight doesn't bother me; I just adore their presence, that somehow eludes the smaller ones.

    14. I picked a Pipos Baha because I tend to like smaller things. I will probably get a Lati next. I love the larger dolls, but I don't have the space or the funds right now!

    15. I'm in a similar situation. No space or funds at the moment. Although I doubt I'll ever pick up a bigger one though. For some reason, I'm not interested in them as I am in the tinies!

    16. Size is one of my concern of getting a doll.
All three in my family are 4X cm size dolls (in fact, they are all DOC =.=")
Recently, I fall in love with a SD size doll from Volk... but I won't get it because I think he cannot get along well with my other kids. The other reason is that they cannot share cloths =0=, which means I need to spend much more money...

    17. for me, its not the size that matters, its the sculpt. if i fall in love with a certain face, i want to buy it. so far i have 4 sd size, 4 minis (and 4 mini heads waiting for bodies), and 1 tiny bambicrony. i'm really loving all of them in their own ways.

    18. I own a 70cm 'cos of the sculp... at first I thought about purchasing a MSD-sized doll, but I didn't like any of the molds very much - I was looking for a more adult-looking doll. Then I found Dollzone and Yuu, made up my mind and bought him ^__^

    19. I liked the Dollshe Hound and so I bought him...
I liked the Dollzone Recall so I bought him too...
My Dollzone Mo was part of a cosplay and because he is the right size for his character and cheap I got him...
I liked the leekeworld L blind head deal so I joined into that...
And since the Minimee Matsujun will be SD I will have mostly big boys

Most of the reasons I have chosen the dolls is cause I like them... My wish list is around 30 dolls long and they range from the Tiny to the Hound sizes... I am buying them in the order by which THEY choose to come home.

    20. I only have one doll so far, soom Sabik, I got him as I loved his face, unfortunately I now feel he's too big and would prefer a smaller doll. I'm doing what I never thought I would, selling him or swapping him for a smaller mold.
