How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I chose 60cm simply because the doll I fell for happens to be 60cm. There are some minis that I find really lovely, but I tend to be more drawn to the larger dolls' sculpts.

Plus, I suck at sewing and it's a bit easier with a larger doll :XD:

    2. When I first learned of BJDs it was the SD size that I heard of before anything else. The sheer size of them struck me. I thought they were just so huge and unnatural looking in comparison to other doll sizes. And hence, I fell in love.

Certain smaller dolls appeal to be but I’m not at all a fan of dolls that have a childlike appearance so that somewhat limits my choices when it comes to other scales. I am aware there are smaller dolls with mature body types but I don’t feel drawn towards them enough to ever see myself having one in the future.

      I’m an SD girl.

    3. I don't think I want to eliminate getting any doll based on size. There's just so many faces I love in different sized dolls. Eventually, I may get dolls in all different sizes. I think that would make an interesting and varied collection.

    4. I've never seen size as an issue. I either like the face and the body structure (joints, etc.) or i don't. Size has nothing to do with it.

    5. I'm a fan of both sizes myself, I got a MSD because of the specific doll itself. The general thing with SDs vs MSDS is there's a lot more SD clothing I've seen about.

    6. Thats how i feel aswell. The mold of the doll is more important to me than the size.

    7. I just picked the sculpt that I liked best... 'Happened to be an SD-scale, 60cm Shiwoo, so big dolls are what I started with. I'd never actually held a doll before I got Harumatsu, I'd just seen a friend's girls in pictures, so I didn't really have much of a preference at the time.

Now, after playing with everything from a Banji to a Hound, I've found out that I really am most comfortable with the 60cm dolls. They're big enough to be cuddly and to have a nice weight to them, without being overly heavy or too tall for me to easily handle... My first was a lucky pick, as it turned out.

    8. For me, sadly, it all depends on price. I could have gotten a 70cm DZ for the same price as my MnF Shiwoo, but I opted for the mini cause I liked his mold better.

    9. I choose based on the sculpt, I like boys that dont look too childish, but not too adult either. Orriginally the price of SDs seemed impossible for me, so I opted for MSDs.
Almost all of the sculpts I like happen to be MSD anyhow; but I do plan to buy both sizes.

    10. If I love a doll, I don't mind the size!
But I think I alway give more love for Large Doll.......

    11. Heehee, wow, i'm such a lurker..

So what do you think? Have you ever fallen in love with a doll and then gone "WOW she's/he's so HUGE/SMALL!"? Did it change your mind, or did you go with the flow?

      <3 !

    12. I changed my mind! I was going to bring a 45 CM into my family of SD and SD+ boys, but .. I decided it would just be too awkward and didn't end up getting him. I don't really regret it, though. I think he would have been an impulse buy...

    13. Well, I do see msd sized dolls I like sometimes but the doll that I am working on/is on his way(he's my first doll)is going to have a DOT body and he is one of the shorter dolls I want. I do like many 60cm dolls but most of the ones I want are dollshes and other 69cm+ sized dolls like dollmore models and Sabik.
So I would only get a msd if it was meant to be a child; I probably won't because I would feel strange that the child could never grow taller(thinking that might be strange).

    14. I'm finally getting an SD head and everyday people can hear me complain about trying to find the lightest, cheapest body that won't make him look misproportioned, because I find SDs REAL heavy and I've always hated that fact, and i kinda think they're a bit too big so hard to pose and all, and they'll make my darling baby look like an 8 year old

I'm still getting him though, to see how it would turn out. I REALLY like his face. I hope I can get over his size and weight and who knows? I might even change my mind about SDs.

but for now, size matters to me. I prefer mini size and I hate size-ism where mini molds and stuff are just too kiddish =________=

    15. I've had 5 MSD so far and I love the size a lot but I'm just that curious about an SD I've ordered my first. I know I hear a lot about them being intimidating an dreally "too" big but I think I can handle it. Beside there loads of gorgeous molds I want XD
I agree hyschara. I wish that MSD weren't all child like!

    16. Are all MSDs child-like? I thought many people collected mature minis.

    17. Size matters to me!:XD:

I have a "no mini/no tiny" rule so they all have to be big. I had a Kid Delf Cherry boy and as cute as he was, he just didn't work out with my group. I do plan on getting one mini at some point but the right one isn't out there yet.

    18. Size only matters to me in the respect that I'd like that my dolls be able to interact. Right now I have a Delf and a MNF and I'm reeeeeeeeally trying to find a mold that looks enough like my MNF Shushu that I can make her an SD ;_; I'd rather make her an SD than my Delf a mini because the Delf is a limited head^^;

    19. Size matters to me. xD Especially when it comes to age/the set height of my characters. I've been cheating it a little, since I chose such a high range to work with... but yes.

I do want minis, since they'll actually act as children... but no tinies, I'm sure. As nice as some of them are, haha. 'Fraid they'd get lost in the massiveness that is Toya.

    20. When I started out I had a SD size only rule & I stuck to it for quite a while. Then Baha came out & I couldn't resist. I justified it by saying he was only a cat & so didn't count. Shortly afterwards I fell in love with tan Lucy so got her as a companion to Baha. Then came my discovery of mature tinies & soon a couple of MSD size crept in. Obviously my rule went out the door.

My new rule is nothing taller than Jace but I saw Donn's Bishonen House guys in person & I'm getting scared that one will be trashed as well.
