How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I prefer more mature/realistic looking molds so when I first became interested in bjds, I liked the SD sized dolls more. However, I've had a lot of time to lurk this hobby, and now I think mature minis are more my thing. They're seem just the right size while the 60 cm dolls would just be too big for me I think.

    2. I decided my first on his mould, and the others I want.. well, size doesn't actually factor in, I don't think. I haven't actually been all 'oh, he's too big/small'

I THOUGHT I liked the bigger 64+cm ones, but apparently now I'm set on a 26cm one, so I guess I have no method but to go for the most appealing face.

    3. I'm actually trying to decide this right now(without ever seeing one in person, let alone holding one, ack)...so this thread has been most helpful.

(I'm a bit anal, though...so once I pick a size I'm likely to stick to it. Thus far 60cm is winning, though I'm worried about the weight. I tend to like MSD girls vs SD boys.)

    4. I'm going to buy a MSD ^^

I also like SD's, but the doll i liked best was a MSD, so MSD it is! And i like the idea of some small cutie friends ^^

    5. i dont have much space at home... so i just go for small tiny BJD :)

    6. For me, it all depended on the face. I decided on an MSD AOD Rao because her face looked exactly like the character I wanted to make her for. Plus I like that she's so light so she's easy to carry around.

So I think it comes down to what mold you like best.

    7. I didnt really want a big doll... but i liked alot of the Sds and i still have to look because some of them are stunning (Lahoo, sha & the moon <3<3)
I do think my Hid looks a little older than most msds. I wanna try and stick to msds cause i like their size.... But i will proberly end up getting a lahoo, sha and moon

    8. the first time i actually was able to see Dollfies up close was at AnimeFest back in 06 so I took lots of pictures, watched how everyone carried their dolls and listened one one person's story about how they carried their 60cm on their shoulder like a parrot only to have their shoulder lock up on them.

after all that, i found i was more attracted to the MSDs and smaller sizes

    9. large dolls because they are more realistice and I suppose they'll be bigger so more to cuddle?

    10. i finally managed to decide on size.
I love the MNF shushu - she's perfect for a character of mine, even if she is SO common here....
so mini size it is! Now the only problem is finding an mature mini sized boy that will look old enough to be her husband. I'm just hoping that by the time i can afford to get him there will be some other options.....

    11. I plan on getting a 62cm doll. Because the price isn't much more than the smaller dolls, and the larger dolls are hard to find clothes for.

    12. I decided on size based on their context.

I mean, Fenris was 6'4", Reno was 5'11", and Blues was 4'. So that went in my head as large, medium, and small. So then it went to 70cm, SD, and MSD ... and that's how it ended up in reality when I found the molds.

MSD BF Jerome for Blues. SD Angelregion Kai for Reno. And Dollshe Bermann for Fenris (or minimee head on Dollshe body).

I admit, though, in terms of handling/hauling ... I loffle Blues the best. I can just grab hold of his waist and haul him off easy-like. Reno is much more of a chunky move. x.x Hauling Reno around can get kinda tiring.

    13. I didn't. u___u; I just went with the first doll on the marketplace that caught my eye and was at a good price, and that happened to be a Mythdoll Yue. After getting further sucked into the hobby I found that I really prefer the bigger guys, but now... I'm starting to think that I like the REALLY big ones, and I'm really interested in Batchix's 80cms now. x___x; I need to stop letting my tastes 'grow,' really.

    14. I'm waiting for my first BJD, and it's a DZ 70 cm. I wanted it so big because the other one we have in the house (not mine) is 60 cm. And I wanted one that could be a little bigger. Like a big brother or something.

That, and I found the perfect face for what I wanted, on this particular DZ doll (Ying)

    15. For me, I basically choose the mold and the size that comes with it XD
As for the molds that exist in both sizes I mostly prefer SD...but sometimes it depends on the character I plan for that doll (adult or teen etc)

    16. I can't decide between SD and MSD.I have never seen a BJD so no idea which and what size I will prefer. But I might have a chance to see a BJD IRL this weekend when I go to the Volk store.

    17. I like big-size thing........=.=""
So when I know BJD, I like the biggest one (At that time, there is no model-size bjd)
      So I choose the 1/3 size~~~~

    18. I'd never seen a BJD in real life before buying my boy. So I kind of just winged it and bought him lol! Mainly because I couldn't get his face out of my head.. I was just too in love with his sculpt to care what size he was.

    19. I like MSD sized dolls, they're a good size especially if it it's a first doll. ^_^

    20. ...I think the greatest thing is to see them face to face, take them in your arms, just... to discover what it looks like to handle like this size or that size.
Meeting other girls with their dolls is a good thing for this kind of approach.
But.. it's not always possible, so I make hypothesis... Sometimes I used the meter to look what it was like a 60cm doll... I think it was too huge for me... but when I get one in my arms, it was not that huge... it only has adorable long legs :p

When I decided for pf it was because I didn't have so much space for a doll. and because
I knew I could do most of her guardrobe with few things...

Now I don't have space either... but I know I'll find it :p
And I can always learn sewing SD clothes XDDDD
