How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I'm working my way up the list. *L* I bought a 1/6 as a "learning" doll in August and, coordinating with a friend, I just bought my first MSD-sized doll. ^.^ I have another MSD in planning stages, but I'd REALLY like to get a SD-sized doll eventually. I love how easy it is to customize the tiniest details with the larger dolls!

    2. The first bjd I ever saw was a lati yellow lea basic and I kind of just fell in love with that size. (I now own the actual very first bjd I ever saw!!!) Now that I've been to some doll club meets where I've gotten to see the bigger bjds...I think I prefer the tinies (but not tooooo tiny) because I'm just terrified of actually breaking one of the bigger dolls! But they're BEAUTIFUL.

    3. At first I didn't want anything too big I wanted something that would be easy for me to carry round and kee in my room so I was planning on MSD size but I'd fallen in love with Dollshe Van which was a problem. Still when I went to a doll meet it gave me a chance to handle dolls of all kinds of sizes and in the end 70cm dolls were perfect for me. Although 60cm dolls are more frequent number they just felt too small after that day. I think it was because I'd always seen dolls as being around Barbie size in the past, but feeling the doll size first hand is always a good move.

I'm really varied with the size of dolls I want though rather than sticking to one size. One of the main factors is fitting in with the character size. Seeing as the first doll I fell in love with was a Dollshe Van (Quinn) who is 70cm 2 other of my characters (Raphael and Lucifer) are meant to be bigger than him so I'm planning on Sabik bodies for those boys hopefully, but my character Sarah is meant to be a little girl so she's MSD size. I originally intended Desdemona to be around 65cm so she'll fit better with Quinn but after seeing a Soony with him she could be staying at 60cm. I would also like a lil 20cm or 15cm doll to be able to have with me all the time.

Overall I prefer the bigger dolls 60-70cm but I'm afraid that I'll end up wanting bigger :sweat but if a smaller doll fits the character better then thats always fine with me.

    4. Narae and Narin definitely aren't Barbie sized. They have plenty more substance to them because of the scale. Some fashion dolls may be the same height as msd's (like Tyler), but their proportions are way smaller. Find a face that you love and Buy that doll. I think you may find the size to be irrelevent! I did! I bought an SD Elfdoll Sooah as my first doll because I loved her face. I bought a couple more sd's because I did like the size. Then Narae won my heart when I was visiting someone who has one, so she is coming home very soon. Everyone is different in their likes and dislikes, but for me the face is the most important.

    5. It was really hard. o.o Though for me it's not really the size that counts... I'm more interested in the face ( character), hands and body.^^

    6. My reason for liking MSDs is simple. I met a Hound.
I'm not even five feet tall and I'm probably not growing an inch more. I can't hold a SD sized doll or two, they're almost half my height. Buttttt MSD's on the other hand are the perfect size. Heck I might even start getting a tiny or two when my wallet gets fat.

    7. 70 cm Dollzone Yuu was the doll of my dreams so I just had to get it. I had no experience at all with handling bjds or even seeing one closely in real life so there was nothing where I would had been able to compare the big size.
I got recently new plans for doll and I wanted it to be about same height... so it closed majority of companies out. I ended up with Model doll which is 71 cm tall. Currently I seem to like 70 cm more than usual ~60 cm SD size.
I also have one MSD and it seems so light and sometimes little weird to handle since he is so small.
One of my friend has Dollzone BB and Elfdoll pig which are...just way too small for my own taste :sweat But my main reason to buy doll is the appearance so if there is ever going to be must-have mini size, it is possible that I might end up to buy it.

    8. I bought my favorite doll and he is 70 cm, so my other dolls are in scale with him. I also have very tiny dolls that are in scale with my dollhouses. Mixing up different scales bothers me, so I stick with these.

    9. lol I tend to mostly look at SD sized dolls, I think they are wonderfull but there is also a MSD that I like lot so well what ever I like I guess

    10. um... i didn't think about the size when i got my first doll!XD
until i got my second doll, which is MSD size, i started thinking about the size :/
but when i purchased my baha and ant, i forget about the size then, i already have large, mini and tiny!lol

    11. MY thought was: I was SD for my older characters and MSD for my younger characters. My first was SD because I thought an MSD would be too short and small. Though now that I have an MSD I love/spoil/take with me more than my 2 SDs.

      H. Kirill = Light wieght
      H. Ducan = brick.

      XD That's my reasoning.

    12. Wooo, old thread! XD

The other day I was wondering how in the world I had wound up with mostly SD's! I had originally wanted most of my group to be MSD's, since they are more carriable (yes, another small person here!), less expensive, and take up less space in my dinky room. But it just didn't happen that way, since I simply could NOT find a mini to fit one particular character that I really wanted. And since I'm really picky about relative size/age/scale . . . well, it all just kinda snowballed from there. :sweat

So, let my experience be a cautionary tale! If you do care a lot about matters of scale (and don't want your minis to be kids), then be careful when you select your first dolls.

    13. Love mini size (MSD) because it's just so handy and much easier to afford <3

Also roff I've decided to get one SD because I'm curious to see what it's like c:

    14. I wanted a particular doll and since he was SD...SD it was.

    15. Well.. I had to decided MSD size because of money... usually SD are more expensive than MSD... but since a friend told me that there´s a lot of SD that costs around 250 dollars, I´m working hard to get the money and achieve mi first 60 cm doll. Maybe a boy.

    16. I like the look of the 60cm's better than the smaller dolls. The smaller ones are very cute, but not for me.

    17. I'd have to say that SD is my favorite so far. Their larger size will make it easier to sculpt props and make costumes for. Plus: The SD sculpts seem to (not universally) have a more adult look to them.

    18. Though, so far, My main loves are all in SD sized, I really go on looks and faces more than size. I already am eyeing other guys in the MSD market.

    19. Mine's an MSD because I wanted him to be short when compared to other dollfie's. >>; I'm horrible. xD

Plus, they're so much easier to tote around. Harder to make stuff for and they don't look as realistic, but whatever. Now I don't have a million dollar dollfie that weighs a million pounds to drag with me everywhere. XD

    20. Size has never really been a consideration for me buying dolls, my dolls range from little Lati yellows up to full size SDs.
