How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I have MSD sized dolls, mostly because I'm still in college, and do a lot of moving around and travelling, so MSD sized dolls are much easier to transport. They don't take up so much space in a dorm room either! :sweat

    2. My first group of dolls were all MSD and I absolutely love MSD size~! I have two tinies and while I do love my little Esmee and Ichigo I worry about them so much that I fear taking them to too many places! And now that I've gotten a few SD's I find myself looking at more of them. But really I don't size into consideration too much unless they're just too small or too big. It's the mold that usually makes the deal ^^; But I will say it's a bit easier having MSDs!

    3. I wanted a 60-70cm for my first boy since I'd be using him as a design tool and it seemed an easier scale to use than 1\4. The more I look at them, though, the more I like MSD. Not for any type of function, but because there's some REALLY cute MSD sized sculpts out there and they won't take over my house as quickly. (I HOPE!:sweat)

    4. Well I'm still expecting my first doll which is an MSD. I think one of the reasons I chose an MSD as my first is because they're just the right size for a first doll. Not too much to handle but big enough to keep me happy with the doll. Now my second is gunna be an SD ^^;

    5. I go for whatever size body is attached to the face I love. I did the "getting your feet wet" thing by buying a 44cm mini as my first doll, too... but that didn't last very long... ;; I just adore long legs, so my house quickly became a repository of 60cm+ male dolls. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, also prefer the bigger dolls because they're easier for me to handle, pose, paint, restring, dress, etc. But if ever I do find another Mini I'm in love with (I only have two), he'd come home with me too.

      Even if you are a Size Queen, there are some love affairs that occur right outside of your usual strike-zone, and you can't explain why: I don't care for Tinies much, but I seem to have wound up with two of them, too. XD The Unola blindsided me into falling in love with him, before I could even realize I'd hit the Bid button. The Rei-tenshi was a gift, who seems to have chosen ME as his owner. I figure when something calls to me (or is given), and becomes part of my house, it doesn't matter what size. As long as there's room for it somewhere.

      (In fact, my next addition to the Smorgasbord of Sizes in my house is coming home in a month or so: a Soom Mecha Angel merman. When he gets here, I will have a size-range of 10cm to 81cm. This blows my mind! :whee:)

    6. Well my first was an MSD.. but Recently I got my first SD, and I've decided that I will be getting SDs from now on. [maybe with an exception of an MSD or tiny every now and then..] I guess in my eyes with an SD you get more bang for your buck?

    7. I'm still sitting on the fence on this one, as I dont actually have any dolls yet, I'm at the choosing stage and whilst it would be so easy to choose one vecause of its sculpt or something that draws me, having never actually seen one IRL I cant imagine how it would look sizewise in my room.For instance are the bigger dolls more detailed just because the artist has more to work with? Are the middle sizes ones more like barbie in stature? I need really to see one in the flesh and see how it fits in with what i imagine, so apart from biting the bullet and buying one, or being lucky enough to have a meet near me, I really have no idea of what I will eventually prefer regarding size.

    8. I started off with Ryung and love her size. I like sewing fashions for my dolls so the larger they are the more choice in fabric I can use. After much indecision, I've decided to add Narae to my bjd family. Really looking forward to making her some clothes too.

    9. With the dolls that represent a couple of characters in a book I like, I determined their sizes by the actual heights of the characters in the book - some characters being about 3 metres tall ended up being listed as larger dolls. With my own characters...well most of them are going to be SD size although two are tinies because I thought they'd look cute as tinies

    10. My first doll was a msd becaue it was more economical at the time. I got a good deal on him and he was a good way to break in to them. My friend had a few sd's and at first I thought they were fantastic, and I still love the molds. but in stunning contrast to most people, I hate the long legs. I aquired a sd boy and while he has many pluses, its easier to sew for him, easier to find wigs I like for him. Eyes and all that on the market place. He is still too big for me. and I dislike his very long legs.

      I have one puki and shes a darling I love her to death but thats about all i want in the very tiny size. over all after having been able to hold, see and play with several sizes, while I admire, and appreciate them all. I found msd was the perfect size for me. They are big enough to snuggle with/cuddle and hug (teeny tinys are hard to hug) and light enough you can pack them in a bag and take easily with you.

      I'm really enjoying that they are making more mature msd's now. In the past that was a limiting factor, if you wanted a more mature doll you almost exclusively had to go to sd size. (in my opinon even mnf look youngish... )

    11. The first doll I liked was 70cm. The next doll I plan on getting is 60 cm I think. It just turned out that way, but I wouldn't hesitate to get a 45 cm if I liked the doll. Besides I like to have a larger doll so the material drapes more naturally and the face is easier to paint, and any details are easier to do and see.

    12. Forever I have wanted an SD13, but I am pooor... So I started looking into the Obitsu 60cm which have a similar size/body shape to the 13s in my opinion. I then fell in LOVE with Obitsu and the 60cm body. I <3 it. I hope to get another Obitsu 60cm and eventually an MSD.

    13. I'm a mini sized girl, so I buy Mini size dolls ^^;

      I had a Volks Megu for a while, but she was too big... so I went back exclusively to minis.

      I might get a larger doll in the future, but that'll only be for drafting patterns and displaying sale clothes. I don't think I could really 'bond' with a larger doll, because their size is just so awkward for me to handle @_@

    14. I chose MSDs because they are not huge...and they are not "barbie sized" therefore making it easier for travel, toting around, etc.

    15. Hm, I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but in some ways it's like what size dog you like. I personally prefer mid-to-large size dogs because I think they're better for cuddling (bite-sized dogs look like you'd squish them), but I still love pugs, which are more on the smaller side. I prefer the larger dolls because of the holding - I find the weight of them strangely comforting - and cuddling, but I also have a Baha because I love them. After having two SDs, though, I don't think I'd ever get an MSD because I don't like the size difference in pictures. My dolls have to be a family and if I can't take a picture of them together, I won't be happy.

    16. For me it was the big size that appealed to me. I had collected Tyler Wentworth and friends from the Tonner company, and they were just too difficult to make clothes for. knits looked clumsy on them, and often the sewn stuff did too. Then I tried American model because she was larger, but had the same problem. Then I got the chance to see and hold some BJDs and I was sold to the 60cm size. I thought they ought to be perfect to make clothes for, and so they are. I do have one tiny 10" bjd, and he is so difficult to make clothes for because he is so tiny. So to me it was because the smaller dolls i had tried collecting just didn't live up to my expectations.

    17. Usually that's not a problem cuz i just bought them because of their faces
      and i only have yosd now~

    18. Spending money on smaller dolls doesn’t appeal to me the same way it does to larger ones.

      Somehow I’m able to justify $700+ on a large doll but couldn’t imagine spending $100-200+ on a small one (even if some of them are really cute)

    19. my first was an mini partly cause of cost partly cause i fell in love with his face. i think the mini fees look like younger versions of the delfs

    20. The face of my first doll determined the size, and he's 67 cm, a larger doll. My second was also large. I want to be able to swap clothes and have them interact, so it will be large for me from now on... unless I fall in love with a smaller face.
